A baby from New York battling a liver disease received a transplant and fought off COVID-19 all before his first birthday. According to reports on Monday, the now 1-year-old baby, Kasen Donerlson, is being called a “miracle baby” by his parents.
His mom and dad, who also contracted the virus, recovered quickly and received news of a liver donor for him in Pittsburgh just a few weeks later.
Kasen’s mother said it has been an emotional battle, and her son seems to be doing better than ever following his transplant.
“I can only pray that we go uphill from here,” Mitayah, Kasen’s mother said. “But I do know as a parent that I can see the wear and tear.”
Kasen celebrated his first birthday in the hospital in Pittsburgh, where he is expected to stay for at least 6 months to recover from his surgery.
A GoFundMe was started for Kasen to help with medical bills and has already raised over $20 thousand.
