Democrats "hope and pray" that President Joe Biden's son "will go away or at least stay quiet" until after the midterm elections, but Republicans on the House Committee on Oversight and Reform won't give up their investigation, Rep. James Comer said Monday.

"It's very disappointing, considering how much time the Democrats spent investigating Donald Trump and his family," the Kentucky Republican said on Newsmax's "National Report." "Here we have Hunter Biden, there's overwhelming evidence with the videos, with the emails with the phone conversations."

The president's son, Comer added, "has been involved in a whole menu of shady business dealings all over the globe with mostly our adversaries in Russia, China, the Middle East, and Ukraine. Everyone knows that. The Democrats, though, have turned a blind eye."

Democrats had an opportunity to help the committee after it was determined that Hunter Biden had 150 suspicious activity reports on various bank accounts, said Comer.

"We uncovered that, and we've been pressing forward with that," said Comer. "Used to be, Congress could get access to those suspicious activity reports, but Biden changed that, and under pressure. We've been doing TV appearances, saying how he changed the rules in the middle of the game."

But then the White House said it would allow the reports to be released if a Democrat also sought them, but "all we've heard is crickets," said Comer.

Meanwhile, several insiders are saying the president's son could face several charges, including failure to register as a foreign agent, tax violations, or lying on a federal firearms background check, but Comer said he hasn't thought that would happen "sometime between the midterm elections in January when Republicans take the gavel."

But now, with the evidence piling up that "Hunter Biden is a thug," the Department of Justice "is going to have to do something," said Comer.

"That doesn't stop the congressional oversight of Hunter Biden," Comer added, as "every American wants to know who the big guy is, as more evidence is coming in that would potentially link Joe Biden to some of Hunter Biden's shady business dealings.

"Obviously, Joe Biden's brother is right in the mix of things, he's probably the brains of everything. So regardless of what the DOJ does, congressional Republicans are going to push forward."

Comer on Monday also responded to the latest economic numbers, and called Biden and Democrats "out of touch with reality."
"If you look at their backgrounds, they've all worked for the government or a university or a law firm," Comer said. "They've never really been in the private sector, so they don't really understand how economics work. They sincerely believe that they can fix this economy by printing more money and spending more money."

When gas prices go down more, demand will again climb and prices will go back up, said Comer.
"We can fix this problem by going back to the Trump energy policies and getting the government out of the way of the energy companies in America and let them do what they do best, and that's to provide renewable energy and good-paying jobs," he said. "All the government has to do is get out of the way."
