Rep. McClain to Newsmax TV on Calls for Her Resignation: 'I'm Not Submissive' (Newsmax TV/"Spicer & Co.")

Newly elected Republican Rep. Lisa McClain scoffed at calls for her resignation from Congress because she objected to certification of Electoral College votes, sneering on Newsmax TV on Wednesday “I’m not submissive."

McClain, 54, identified by some with the loosely defined “Anti-Squad” of first-term conservative Republican women, ridiculed calls by the Michigan Democrat Party for her and fellow GOP Reps. Jack Bergman and Tim Walberg to step down for an “attack on our democracy.”

“One thing I can assure you, I’m not submissive,” McClain said on “Spicer & Co.” “The people of my district elected me to be their voice, and with every fiber of my being, I will be their voice.”

The comments by McClain, who represents Michigan’s 10th Congressional District in the state’s lower peninsula referred to by some as “the thumb,” came on the day the Democrats and 10 Republicans in the House voted to impeach President Donald Trump.

“People want their voices to be heard,” McClain added. “I’ve been here (in Washington) for two weeks now. We haven’t talked about one issue other than the perceived hatred and personalization of President Trump. We have an almost 7% unemployment rate. I think those people would much rather have us talk about how are we going to get them back to work, as opposed to how are we going to impeach the president in the next 10 days.”
