Rep. Kim Schrier, D-Wash., has reportedly accepted as much as $31,000 from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., despite saying in 2018 that she was "not taking Nancy Pelosi's money," according to the Washington Free Beacon.
Schrier said in 2018 that she would not take donations from Pelosi after the California Democrat attended a fundraising event organized by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in Seattle. She went on to say that the party’s leadership "needs to reflect this new, energized, forward-thinking party" and noted, "that probably means it's not
However, Schrier later went on to support Pelosi following her election to the House, and eventually accepted about $31,000 from the speaker since joining Congress, according to the Free Beacon.
Schrier's office did not immediately return the Free Beacon’s request for comment.
The National Republican Campaign Committee released a statement shortly after the Free Beacon's report was published calling Schrier "a liar," and criticizing her for taking money from Pelosi and voting twice for her as speaker.
"Kim Schrier pledged not to take money from Nancy Pelosi during her campaign for Washington’s 8th district," the NRCC said in a press release with a link to the Free Beacon article. "But she’s taken over $30,000 from Pelosi. How will Schrier explain her broken promise to her constituents?"
