Ric Grenell to Newsmax TV: Iran Will Be 'Real Concern' for Biden (Newsmax TV's "The Count)

Iran will be a "real concern" for President-elect Joe Biden, as the Iranians are already testing the incoming president's administration before he's sworn in, former acting Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell said on Newsmax TV Saturday.
However, he added that President Donald Trump's legacy will "do really well" after Biden takes office the administration was able to push forward a number of issues, specifically in foreign policy, that have been problems in the past, Grenell said on Newsmax TV's 'The Count."
When it comes to Iran, the country is "trying to feel" the incoming administration out to see how far it can go, Grenell, also a former ambassador to Germany, commented.
Iran is scheduled to execute a second wrestler after publicly hanging Olympic wrestler Navid Afkari in September on "phony charges," Grenell pointed out, and is now "testing the international community's resolve."
"The first 3 to 6 months are going to be a real test for the Biden administration," said Grenell. "They need to make sure that they're very clear and tough."
Meanwhile, engaging with another country, such as Iran, can be a good strategy but the only way it will work is to set benchmarks after the engagement to see if it was effective, said Grenell.
"What we've seen with China, for instance, 20 years ago, we engaged with them allowed them to come into the World Trade Organization and what have we seen? It's gotten worse through their human rights record," said Grenell. "The rule of law process has gotten worse and so engagement with China, I think has not helped the situation. Sometimes what you have to do is try something new."
Grenell, while talking about Trump's legacy, mentioned the issues concerning the border and immigration, where there has been a "dramatic decrease," and said the economy and job creation speak for themselves, but major strides have happened with other countries.
"Look no further than the Middle East…certainly we've redefined the way we're going to deal with China," said Grenell. "We have increased our allies' NATO spending by pushing them. That's not always popular."
NATO members have complained that the Trump administration has been "too harsh," he said, but he'd argue that previous administrations were too quiet and not successful.
