The White House will pressure Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to resign before House Republicans can push for his impeachment, but he likely won't willingly step down, Mark Morgan, the acting Customs and Border Patrol Commissioner under former President Donald Trump, told Newsmax on Wednesday.

"The White House sees the writing on the wall," Morgan said on Newsmax's "Wake Up America." "They know what's going on. I think they're going to put pressure on Secretary Mayorkas to resign to prevent them the embarrassment of being dragged through hearings."

But Mayorkas' "ego and pride" won't let him "do what he needs to do in the best interests of this country," Morgan added.

His comments come after remarks by House Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who hopes to become the House speaker after the new Congress is sworn in this coming January.

Tuesday, McCarthy called on Mayorkas to step down and warned that the House might call for his impeachment after Republicans take over the majority.

Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., who is also vying for the speaker's chair, has also pushed for Mayorkas' removal from office, and Morgan told Newsmax he agrees with both of them.

"We know Mayorkas has been this administration's chief architect of the open border," said Morgan. "He took the most secure border in our lifetime and intentionally un-secured it. In the last 22 months, we've had over 4.5 million encounters and 1.1 million known gotaways. We know drugs are pouring into this country, literally killing Americans every single day. We know among the 1.1. million known gotaways are hardcore criminals, murderers, rapists, pedophiles, and gang members.

Further, there are people on the federal terrorist watchlist coming across, meaning that the "next terrorist sleeper cell could be in the United States already planning the next terrorist attack," said Morgan.

But still, Mayorkas "lies to the American people, lies to Congress, and refuses to admit there's even a crisis going on," Morgan said. "It's why I say he's the most dangerous man in this country."

Meanwhile, the administration claims that congressional Republicans don't have a plan for the border, which Morgan dismissed as "another lie on top of the plethora of lies coming from this administration and specifically this White House press secretary."

McCarthy and other party leaders have put out a framework about what needs to be done to secure the border, said Morgan.

"We need to reform the asylum process," he said. "They need to pass a bill out of the House on day one that outlines the road map to secure the border, and they need to impeach Secretary Mayorkas if he hasn't resigned."

Alina Habba to Newsmax: ‘No Impartiality’ in DOJ Special Counsel Jack Smith

Alina Habba to Newsmax: 'No Impartiality' in DOJ Special Counsel Jack Smith (Newsmax/"Eric Bolling The Balance")

By Luca Cacciatore | Tuesday, 22 November 2022 09:31 PM EST

Donald Trump’s attorney Alina Habba told Newsmax that the Justice Department had “no impartiality” in mind when they chose special counsel Jack Smith to investigate the former president.

On “Eric Bolling The Balance” Tuesday, Habba criticized the department’s politicization by selecting Smith to lead a probe into sensitive documents obtained at Mar-a-Lago, and another related to Trump’s actions on Jan. 6, 2021.

“Jack Smith, who we know is obviously very much leaning left. His wife, we found out today, has been the producer for [former First Lady] Michelle Obama’s documentary,” Habba explained. “That is the world that we’re in here, folks. That is what they’re doing.

“They try to call a special counsel to have ‘impartiality,’ well there is no impartiality with Donald Trump. I can tell you that right now. And there’s definitely no impartiality when it comes to the left-wing Democratic Party.”

Habba also issued a dire warning to conservative Americans: “This could be you,” adding that the investigation is “not impartial, it’s a witch hunt.”

Still, the attorney said she was not worried about Trump, pointing to the lack of dirt obtained on him during the Russian collusion and Jan. 6 investigations of yesteryear.

“Donald Trump is fighting. He’s not fighting for him. He’s fighting for you. And he will continue to fight for you. That’s what he does. When he fights these ridiculous things … it’s almost a blessing, in some regard, because it’s so obvious.”

GOP Congressman James Comer is putting top Biden administration officials on notice regarding the ongoing crisis at the southern border.

This comes as, Republicans are set to retake the House in the next Congress after Trump-endorsed Kevin Kiley (R-Calif.) won a House seat. His victory increased the GOP’s House majority to 218, the number required for a majority in the lower chamber.

On Tuesday, Comer (R-Ky.) fired off letters to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, HHS Chief Xavier Becerra and as well as to two others. There, he demand information about the administration’s policies. Comer discussed the matter in a written statement to The Daily Mail.

“Oversight Republicans are investigating the domestic and international business dealings of President Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, and other Biden associates and family members to determine whether these activities compromise U.S. national security and President Biden’s ability to lead with impartiality,” Comer wrote. “Hunter and other members of the Biden family have a pattern of peddling access to the highest levels of government to enrich themselves. The American people deserve to know whether the president’s connections to his family’s business deals occurred at the expense of American interests and whether they represent a national security threat.”

Comer, who is expected to become the House Oversight Committee Chairman, contended that the administration’s policies have fueled the illegal immigration and fentanyl crisis as well as the mismanagement of taxpayer dollars.

He pointed out that Oversight Republicans will be relentless in their pursuit to hold Biden administration officials accountable.

Florida Might Drop Law Requiring Gov. to Resign Amid Presidential Run

Florida Might Drop Law Requiring Gov. to Resign Amid Presidential Run (Newsmax)

By Eric Mack | Tuesday, 22 November 2022 09:18 PM EST

A Florida law that requires the state's governor to resign from office if he is an official presidential nominee might be scrapped to open the door for Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2024.

"If an individual who is Florida governor is running for president, I think he should be allowed to do it," Florida State Senate President Kathleen Passidomo, R-Naples, told reporters Tuesday, according to Politico. "I really do. That's a big honor and a privilege, so it is a good idea."

Passidomo and Florida House Speaker Paul Renner, R-Palm Coast, both consider it a "good idea" to change the law to permit DeSantis to stay on as Florida's governor if he would to become the GOP presidential nominee in 2024, Politico reported.

DeSantis has not made any indication he will run against former President Donald Trump in a GOP primary, but Florida might change the law for him. It has been done in the past.

The Florida law changed in 2008 to allow then-Gov. Charlie Crist to seek the vice presidential nominee, but the state legislature put the law back in place in 2012.

The 2008 law permitted a governor who was nearing the end of their term could remain in office until the new governor was inaugurated, but that would not apply to DeSantis in 2024.

Renner noted the "inconsistent" law has changed before and therefore should be allowed to be changed again, Politico reported.

DeSantis might wait until March 2023 to make a 2024 presidential campaign decision, because that is when the Florida Legislature reconsiders the law, a non-election year.

Judge Pushes Trump's N.Y. Fraud Trial to Oct. 2023 (Newsmax)

A Manhattan-based judge has pushed the New York attorney general's fraud lawsuit against former President Donald Trump to Oct. 2023, The Hill reported.

Judge Arthur Engoron set a trial date of Oct. 2, 2023, for attorney general Letitia James's lawsuit against Trump, his three adult children, and the Trump Organization.

Filed in Sept., James' lawsuit follows a three-year investigation of whether Trump or his company manipulated property values to receive investments and tax and loan benefits.

According to a CNN report, Trump's lawyer, Alina Habba, on Tuesday said her client would be present and testify in the trial.

"My clients, they will be here," Habba stated. "All of them."

But in an Insider report, also filed on Tuesday, Habba walked back the statement in an email, saying, "I do not know at this point" whether Trump will testify.

The Trump Organization is also on trial for criminal tax fraud in New York.

Trump, DOJ Attorneys Spar in Court Over Special Master

Trump, DOJ Attorneys Spar in Court Over Special Master (Newsmax)

By Michael Katz | Tuesday, 22 November 2022 07:13 PM EST

Attorneys for former President Donald Trump and the Department of Justice tried to convince a federal appeals court Tuesday to rule in their favor over the appointment of a special master to review thousands of documents seized by the FBI in a search warrant on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in August.

The DOJ is urging a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit in Atlanta to remove the special master requirement and allow it unfettered access to the documents, many of which are marked classified. Two of the judges at the hearing, Britt Grant and Andrew Brasher, are Trump appointees. The third, Chief Judge William Pryor Jr., was appointed by George W. Bush.

The Florida judge, Aileen Cannon, who appointed the special master blocked the DOJ from using the seized records as part of its investigation. The appeals court allowed the DOJ to view about 100 documents marked classified, but the DOJ wants access to all the documents, which total about 13,000.

“That extraordinary judicial intrusion into a core executive branch function should be reversed,” said Sopan Joshi, assistant to the Solicitor General, representing the DOJ in oral arguments.

Trump attorney James Trusty said the DOJ’s argument the government’s investigation has been slowed by the special master, who is veteran New York Judge Raymond Dearie, is overblown.

“It is not realistic for the government to complain that this has hobbled their ability to investigate,” Trusty said.

Trusty said the case is extraordinary because "there's not a situation in the history of this country where a sitting president authorized a raid of a presidential candidate's home."

Brasher grilled Trusty’s assertion about the case being so extraordinary that it needed intervention from an outside arbiter.

"Other than the fact that this involves a former president, everything else about this is indistinguishable from any pre-indictment search warrant," Brasher said. “We’ve got to be concerned about the precedent that we would create that would allow any target of a federal criminal investigation to have a district court … and interfere with the executive branch’s ongoing investigation.”

Dem Rep. Moulton: I Support Investigating Afghanistan Withdrawal

Dem Rep. Moulton: I Support Investigating Afghanistan Withdrawal (Newsmax)

By Nick Koutsobinas | Tuesday, 22 November 2022 06:50 PM EST

During a Monday broadcast of "CNN Newsroom," Massachusetts Democrat Rep. Seth Moulton lent his support of House Republicans' investigation into the withdrawal of Afghanistan. He also said he would support an audit of the whole war and all four presidents who presided over it.

"One of the GOP majority's pledges is to investigate the Afghanistan withdrawal, and I wonder, would you support such an investigation?" Co-host Jim Sciutto asked.

"I would," Moulton responded, "but I would support an investigation of the entirety of the Afghan War. This didn't all just go to hell in a handbasket with the withdrawal. There were mistakes that were made by multiple presidents, Democratic and Republican, over the course of 20 years. And if we want to prevent those mistakes from happening again, ultimately do the work, the oversight of Congress so that more American troops don't needlessly lose their lives, then we will examine the entire conflict."

"And I'll tell you, Jim," the congressman added, "one of the reasons that it's important to do this now is because so many Americans have forgotten about the fact that we did leave a lot of Afghans behind. And so, my advocacy for the Afghans who served along our — alongside us and are now being hunted down by the Taliban, that hasn't ended. That continues until we bring them all out of danger."

The congressman from Massachusetts then began naming the presidents who presided over the war.

"I hold this president responsible for the mistakes that occurred under his watch. So Joe Biden is responsible for the withdrawal. But Donald Trump, President Trump, is responsible for the decision to negotiate with the Taliban, basically give everything away, and pave the groundwork for this precipitous withdrawal that Biden followed through on. I hold President Obama responsible for the decision to surge troops into Afghanistan and we should have a full accounting of whether or not that worked and whether it was worth the cost."

"And, of course, I hold President Bush responsible for, not only going into Afghanistan in the first place, which I think most people agree was the right thing to do, but ultimately deciding to escalate the war and stay there for what turned into a 20-year conflict. So, there's a lot of accountability to be had here, but it's our job to do that in Congress. There will be a lot of Republicans and Democrats who don't want to examine this issue, that say it's consigned to the past, they don't want to get their president or their party in trouble. As a United States Marine veteran, we absolutely should have accountability and I will be pursuing that with whoever's willing to have that discussion in Congress next year."

Last week, the Office of the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) released its latest audit revealing that the $145 billion 20-year experiment for regime change failed.

"The United States sought to build stable, democratic, representative, gender-sensitive, and accountable Afghan governance institutions. It failed," the report read.

"U.S. efforts to build and sustain Afghanistan's governing institutions were a total, epic, predestined failure on par with the same efforts and outcome in the Vietnam war, and for the same reasons," the report added, borrowing a quote from U.S. Army War College associate professor, Chris Mason.

Representative Kevin McCarthy vows to bring back traditions once recognized within the House of Representatives.

Republicans are set to retake the House in the next Congress after Trump-endorsed Kevin Kiley (R-Calif.) won a House seat. His victory increased the GOP’s House majority to 218, the number required for a majority in the lower chamber.

Last week, McCarthy was nominated as the next Speaker of the House with 188 votes. His challenger, Representative Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), received 31 votes. He needs 218 votes to be the confirmed winner.

In a Facebook post on Monday, McCarthy (R-Calif.) said every Congressional session will begin with a prayer and with the pledge of allegiance, no exceptions.

The Republican’s promise garnered immense praise from followers, with some saying it will foster respect for the U.S. within the House.

McCarthy has also pledged to bar several Democrat lawmakers who have attacked America’s allies, given an advantage to America’s adversaries, and eroded trust in America’s institutions when he becomes House Speaker.

This includes, Representatives Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) and Adam Schiff (D-Calif.).

Democrat Katie Hobbs Denounces ‘Dangerous’ Kari Lake

Democrat Katie Hobbs Denounces 'Dangerous' Kari Lake (Newsmax)

By Michael Katz | Tuesday, 22 November 2022 05:56 PM EST

Arizona Gov.-elect Katie Hobbs said Republican Kari Lake’s claims of election fraud in their gubernatorial race, which Hobbs won by about 17,000 votes, is “dangerous” and leading to “threats and violence."

“This kind of political rhetoric, these false accusations, they need to stop because many people across the state of Arizona and across the country are being misled by these so-called political leaders,” Hobbs said Tuesday on “CNN This Morning.” “And their rhetoric is dangerous and it’s leading to threats and violence, and it needs to stop.”

Lake’s complaints center mostly on Maricopa County, which had a myriad of issues on Election Day. Maricopa County Supervisor Bill Gates, a Republican, reportedly has been forced into hiding because of death threats.

Hobbs, the Democratic secretary of state charged with overseeing her own election victory, said “Arizonans and Americans sent a strong message to these election deniers that we’re ready to move on. But unfortunately, they are still ginning up these attacks on those responsible for our elections based on their false allegations, and they’re just basically being a sore loser. We cannot tolerate it.”

In a video posted Tuesday on the Twitter site of iVoteArizona, Lake, who was backed by former President Donald Trump, said the midterm elections in Arizona were “botched and broken beyond repair.”

Lake said she’s grateful the Arizona attorney general’s office is looking into voting issues in Maricopa County, which among its problems on Election Day was the configuration of ballot-on-demand printers, resulting in tabulators unable to read some ballots.

“Tens of thousands of you have reached out, pleading with me to fight this fight," Lake said in the video. "Rest assured, I will because if we give up now, we no longer will have a country."

Devin Nunes to Newsmax: D.C. ‘Swamp’ All Over Trump Special-Counsel Pick

Devin Nunes to Newsmax: D.C. 'Swamp' All Over Trump Special-Counsel Pick Devin Nunes Devin Nunes (Getty Images)

By Jay Clemons | Tuesday, 22 November 2022 03:51 PM EST

Devin Nunes, the CEO of Trump Media and Technology Group, said that former President Donald Trump has routinely been the subject of "targeting" among federal investigators, agenda-driven Democratic Party leaders, New York state legal officials, and even members within the Republican Party for the better part of seven years — dating back to his initial pursuit of the White House in June 2015.

In that all-encompassing vein, it doesn't surprise Nunes that Attorney General Merrick Garland would appoint a special counsel (Jack Smith) for Trump's Mar-a-Lago documents dispute, whose wife reportedly possesses close ties to the Democrats and former First Lady Michelle Obama.

"When is enough … enough? It seems the norm now. All these people that are in the [Washington political] 'swamp.' It's always the same thing," Nunes told Newsmax Tuesday afternoon, while appearing on "American Agenda" with hosts Bob Sellers and Katrina Szish.

"These [hand-picked candidates] always seem to have a connection to the left. And I don't know why this would be any different," lamented Nunes, who added that Smith's wife has the freedom to support any political party.

As a consequence, though, her husband shouldn't be given broad powers to oversee "such an unprecedented raid," said Nunes.

More than three months have passed since the FBI executed an early morning raid of Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

And since then, FBI sources have reportedly acknowledged that Trump's documents dispute might have been much ado about nothing.

"Well, of course. We knew that from beginning," said Nunes, with a huff of exasperation.

And yet, this matter now has a special counsel attached to the investigation.

"It's a witch hunt, plain and simple," added Nunes. "We are in a very dark period of American history" with the left-leaning media and Big Tech working together with the Democrats.

And yet, "they're [still] scared of President Trump," said Nunes.

The reasons for Trump striking fear into the hearts of the three groups: Nunes said that power-hungry entities don't like to discuss Trump's relentless commitment to bringing jobs back to America, along with making the country energy-independent.

"We're talking about two very important pillars" that every-day Americans cherish, said Nunes.

Teachers Union Head: Pompeo Trying to Be GOP ‘Extremist’

Teachers Union Head: Pompeo Trying to Be GOP 'Extremist' (Newsmax)

By Michael Katz | Tuesday, 22 November 2022 03:24 PM EST

Randi Weingarten, head of the American Federation of Teachers, said former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is "desperate to be labeled as the extremist" among potential 2024 Republican candidates after he called her the most dangerous person in the world.

"He's using the same strategy, the extremist's strategy that didn't work for (Republicans) in 2018, 2020, and '22," Weingarten said in an interview Tuesday with global news website Semafor. "And he's flooding the zone with disinformation. And what's dangerous about that is that it will lead to violence. He's decided to use his campaign to foment hate and division."

In an interview with the same publication posted Monday, Pompeo, who has not formally announced his candidacy, was asked about the central themes for any GOP presidential candidate in 2024.

He touched on limited government, protecting religious freedoms and not teaching children "crap in schools, which we are at the center of doing."

"I tell the story often — I get asked, ‘Who's the most dangerous person in the world? Is it Chairman Kim (of North Korea), is it Xi Jinping (of China)?' The most dangerous person in the world is Randi Weingarten," Pompeo said. "It's not a close call.

"Who's the most likely to take this republic down? It would be the teachers unions, and the filth that they're teaching our kids, and the fact that they don't know math and reading or writing."

Education has become a key talking point in the past two election cycles, with several states, mostly Republican-led, placing restrictions on subjects such as critical race theory, which holds that racism is inherent in American institutions and policies to maintain social, economic and political inequalities between whites and nonwhites.

Many GOP-led states also are trying to limit what teachers can say about gender identity and sexual orientation, and about which books on those subjects are available to students.

"He needs to fund his campaign," Weingarten said of Pompeo. "He doesn't have a base, so he is trying to get millions from the anti-union, anti-public-education billionaires like (former Education Secretary) Betsy DeVos."

Sen. Graham Testifies in Georgia About 2020 Election

Sen. Graham Testifies in Georgia About 2020 Election (Newsmax/"American Agenda")

By Charles Kim | Tuesday, 22 November 2022 02:36 PM EST

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., appeared Tuesday to testify before a Georgia grand jury regarding the 2020 election.

According to CNN, Graham was expected to answer Fulton County prosecutor's questions about alleged attempts by then-President Donald Trump to overturn the 2020 election.

The report said that the probe likely would include questions about Graham's calls to Georgia election officials and his interactions with the Trump campaign in the days following the 2020 contest.

Graham had fought the subpoena requiring his appearance under the Constitution’s Speech or Debate clause, but the U.S. Supreme Court declined to block his appearance, the report said.

The Fulton County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that the Senator entered the courthouse around 8 a.m. ET Tuesday.

While not blocking the appearance, the courts did rule that Graham could object to some of the questions, including matters where he collected facts as part of his legislative duties, but would have to respond to public comments he made and anything he may have done to "cajole" Georgia election officials to disregard votes.

One federal appeals court judge said that Graham must answer questions about "coordination with the Trump campaign regarding its post-election efforts in Georgia, public statements regarding the 2020 election, and efforts to 'cajole' or 'exhort' Georgia election officials," the report said.

The probe comes from Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger who claimed that in a phone call, Graham left the impression that he should throw out some of the ballots.

"It was just an implication of, 'Look hard and see how many ballots you could throw out,'" CNN reported Raffensperger, who has already testified in front of the panel, saying at the time.

Republican Gov. Brian Kemp, who just won reelection, testified in front of the grand jury last week after a judge denied his attempt to avoid the appearance in August, according to NBC News.

President Joe Biden narrowly defeated Trump in the vote tally by 11,779 votes, just 0.2%, according to Politico.

Almost 5 million people voted in that race, with Biden getting 2,473,633 votes and Trump garnering 2,461,854 votes.

NBC reported that Trump was angry with Kemp for not convening a special session of the state legislature to reverse Biden’s victory amid claims of election fraud.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is handling the case for the state, CNN reported.

Rep. Brady to Newsmax: Biden’s ‘Cruel’ Economy Damaging

Rep. Brady to Newsmax: Biden's 'Cruel' Economy Damaging rep. kevin brady giving a speech Rep. Kevin Brady, R-Texas (Getty Images)

By Jay Clemons | Tuesday, 22 November 2022 02:33 PM EST

Rep. Kevin Brady, R-Texas, believes the Biden administration is being "very dismissive" about the inflationary costs associated with Thanksgiving week, the December holidays, and the looming threat of a brutally cold winter.

The Texas Republican also sees it as poor optics that Biden will be vacationing on the ritzy Nantucket Island on Thanksgiving weekend, while Americans who've been "hurt by the Biden economy" are tightening their belts for what's likely coming next.

"Most working families would tell you it's a very cruel economy right now," Brady said Tuesday on Newsmax's "John Bachman Now."

Brady said Americans are being crushed by the rising holiday costs with gasoline, groceries, hotels, and rental cars.

"It's the ongoing burden of these high prices," said Brady, who added that many American families are skipping meals, dipping into savings, and losing a chunk of their purchasing power — compared to the Trump economy from a few years ago.

Brady added: "Lots of Americans are worried about whether they'll have a job [moving forward], because the Biden economy — which includes the Biden inflation — is just so damaging to real Americans."

The real crisis could be coming in a few weeks, warns Brady, with families being forced to choose between putting food on the table and meeting energy costs.

"I worry this winter could be very cruel to a lot of families," said Brady, in terms of heating their homes, having enough gasoline to get around in bad weather, and being able to stretch their food dollar even further. "But the president just says, 'You've got to live with it.'"

Brady said a Republican-controlled House chamber, which convenes Jan. 3, will curb the Democrats' "out-of-control" spending.

Republicans also will tout free-market programs which promote job growth and more technological innovations.

"Will the president work with us to help ease this cruel economy? I wouldn't bet so," Brady said.

Rep. Brady to Newsmax: Biden’s ‘Cruel’ Economy Damaging

Rep. Brady to Newsmax: Biden's 'Cruel' Economy Damaging (Newsmax/"John Bachman Now")

By Jay Clemons | Tuesday, 22 November 2022 02:33 PM EST

Rep. Kevin Brady, R-Texas, said the Biden administration is being "very dismissive" about the inflationary costs associated with Thanksgiving week, the December holidays, and the looming threat of a brutally cold winter.

The Texas Republican also said it is poor optics that Biden will be vacationing on the ritzy Nantucket Island on Thanksgiving weekend, while Americans who've been "hurt by the Biden economy" are tightening their belts for what's likely coming next.

"But the president just says, You've got to live with it."

Rep. Mike Waltz to Newsmax: Dems ‘Eroded Public Trust in Our Institutions’

Rep. Mike Waltz to Newsmax: Dems 'Eroded Public Trust in Our Institutions' (Newsmax/"John Bachman Now")

By Nicole Wells | Tuesday, 22 November 2022 02:06 PM EST

Democrats have "eroded public trust in our institutions" and Attorney General Merrick Garland's appointment of Jack Smith as special counsel to oversee investigations into former President Donald Trump is just another example, Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., told Newsmax on Tuesday.

"What's such a shame here is so many actions on the part of the Democrats have eroded public trust in our institutions," Waltz told "John Bachman Now." "We've seen [Dr. Anthony] Fauci up at the podium time and time again, misleading the American people about gain of function, about taxpayer funding of gain of function.

"We have the same type of erosion in confidence in any type of independent prosecutor when we saw [special counsel Robert] Mueller load up his team with Clinton supporters and people who had donated to the Democratic Party and yet pretend to be independent.

"We're seeing the same thing now with this one," he continued, referring to Smith. "This is about politics. This is about hanging a cloud over President Trump and his 2024 run to retake the presidency and make America great again and that's all this is about."

CBS News confirmed Monday the authenticity of Hunter Biden's laptop, with senior investigative correspondent Catherine Herridge tweeting, "CBS News has obtained data from a laptop purported to have belonged to Hunter Biden."

"The data came directly from the source who said they provided it to the FBI under subpoena," she said.

When asked why the mainstream media is suddenly coming around about the laptop's legitimacy, the Florida Republican said it was obviously a way to cover themselves once the GOP begins digging.

"It's obvious to the entire world that there are going to be investigations, that the FBI has been sitting on this laptop now for years," he said. "As someone focused on national security, I can tell you for certain the Chinese Communist Party and the Bank of China, who was partnered with Hunter Biden, doesn't give you a billion and a half dollars to invest in shoestring factories.

"They want artificial intelligence, advanced materials, quantum computing – things with clear national security concerns," Waltz continued. "And what did Hunter Biden use in terms of his influence and his father's influence to bypass export restrictions on those types of advanced technologies that are now funding the Chinese military build-up and helping them with their technological edge? There's a lot to unpack.

"I promise you, as Republicans, when we take control of the House, we are going to get to the bottom of it," he added.

Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday asked a federal court in Florida to provide him and his lawyers with a complete version of the sworn statement that federal investigators used to obtain a search warrant for his Florida property in August.

Prosecutors are conducting a criminal probe over the retention of government records at the resort after Trump's presidency ended. The motion to unseal the affidavit was requested in a court filing in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
