NY’s $75B climate ‘super-fund’ faces major pushback from energy-producing states

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A New York law signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul that would impose as much as $75 billion in liabilities on major fossil fuel companies by forcing them to pay into a state “climate super-fund” depending on their emissions would hurt way more than the firms themselves, West Virginia Attorney General JB McCuskey warned Friday.

“It would be catastrophic, not just for the economies of West Virginia, Kentucky and Pennsylvania, but the economies of every state,” McCuskey said, as those states are likely to see the most negative effects due to their role in powering New York’s grid.

“If we don’t have access to reliable, inexpensive electricity, and the only way to make that right now is with fossil fuels, every American’s energy bills are going to skyrocket.”

McCuskey warned that it is those same energy companies that provide livable conditions and conveniences for the same New York City dwellers who boosted the policy.

CLIMATE LAWFARE IN BLUE-STATE COURTS COULD HURT US ENERGY CONSUMERS, EXPERT SAYS: ‘HUGE EFFECT’

The skyscrapers dotting the city relied on Pennsylvania steel and West Virginia power to be built in the first place. McCuskey said it was “ironic” to see “people in Manhattan looking down on them – it’s that very coal power that they’re claiming now destroyed their city.”

McCuskey, leading about a score of other states in trying to halt New York’s law, said costs will rise across the board, including for commodities, transportation and other concerns not immediately thought of as being directly linked to fossil fuels or physical infrastructure.

Hochul has rebutted such opposition, claiming increasingly strong meteorological patterns are increasingly burdening New Yorkers with billions of dollars in health and environmental “consequences — due to polluters that have historically harmed our environment.”

“Establishing the Climate Superfund is the latest example of my administration taking action to hold polluters responsible for the damage done to our environment and requiring major investments in infrastructure and other projects critical to protecting our communities and economy,” Hochul said in a statement.

McCuskey added that a second suit is confronting Vermont’s similar 2024 law as well – though he warned the Green Mountain State’s version does not have a $75 billion cap like the neighboring Empire State.

Vermont Republican Gov. Phil Scott declined to veto or sign that law, rendering it enacted.

State Rep. Martin LaLonde, D-South Burlington, predicted that “Big Oil will fight this in the courts,” but said in a statement at the time that the “stakes are too high and costs too steep for Vermonters to release corporations that caused this mess from their obligation to help clean it up.”

Hearings in the New York suit are expected to begin in July, McCuskey said, and he expected that no matter what happens in Albany’s judiciary, the Supreme Court will likely have to have the final word.

$3B LA LAWSUIT COULD ‘DESTROY’ GULF ENERGY INDUSTRY, CRITICS WARN, AS STATE’S POSITION QUESTIONED

About a dozen other states, including Illinois, Massachusetts and California, are pursuing similar legislation, McCuskey said, so litigators may soon have their hands full.

“The New York case is so incredibly important, $75 billion is outrageous. But if it were to be $75 billion times X number of states, it becomes the kind of lawfare that bankrupts energy companies,” he said.

A suit in Louisiana brought by coastal Plaquemines Parish recently cost Chevron billions for pollution plaintiffs claimed had been caused by its subsidiary Texaco – albeit decades ago, before the two companies were linked.

McCuskey said energy development and the coal and gas industries are so inextricably tied to West Virginia that a loss would be just as catastrophic for Mountaineers.

In the state, primed to celebrate its 162nd birthday on Friday, concerns over the undermining of the energy industry have been a rare point of bipartisanship on any state or federal issue.

Then-Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.V., so enraged actress Bette Midler for opposing provisions of then-President Joe Biden’s “Build Back Better” plan that she categorized West Virginians as poor and “strung-out” and wrongly wielding political power for having only the population the “size of Brooklyn.”

Manchin and now-Sen. Jim Justice II – then the state’s governor – didn’t take kindly to that characterization, with Justice taking to the House floor in Charleston and holding up his bulldog, Babydog — declaring that Midler could “kiss her heiney.”

Trump prepares for G7 summit while pushing Iran nuclear deal amid Israeli strikes

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

President Donald Trump is expected to have a busy 22nd week back in the Oval Office after celebrating his 79th birthday and attending a massive military parade honoring the Army’s 250th anniversary over the weekend, including traveling to Canada on Sunday for his first G7 summit since his inauguration.

Israel launched preemptive strikes on Iran

Trump’s week is expected to largely focus on the Middle East after Israel launched preemptive strikes on Iran on Thursday evening after months of attempted and stalled nuclear negotiations and subsequent heightened concern that Iran was advancing its nuclear program.

TRUMP JUGGLES CHINA FRAMEWORK TRADE DEAL, LA’S ANTI-ICE RIOTS AND ISRAEL’S IRAN STRIKE IN 21ST WEEK IN OFFICE

The strikes, which were part of Israel’s “Operation Rising Lion,” targeted Iran’s nuclear and missile infrastructure and killed at least four Iranian military leaders.

Iran said the strikes were a “declaration of war” and has subsequently launched its own strikes on Israel, which have rocked residential communities and left locals killed and buried under the rubble of buildings.

Trump reported on Thursday that the U.S. was made aware ahead of Israel’s initial strikes before they occurred, and he has repeatedly underscored that he wants to reach a nuclear deal with Iran to end the “death and destruction.”

“I gave Iran chance after chance to make a deal. I told them, in the strongest of words, to ‘just do it,’ but no matter how hard they tried, no matter how close they got, they just couldn’t get it done. I told them it would be much worse than anything they know, anticipated, or were told, that the United States makes the best and most lethal military equipment anywhere in the World, BY FAR, and that Israel has a lot of it, with much more to come – And they know how to use it,” Trump posted to Truth Social on Friday.

“Certain Iranian hardliner’s spoke bravely, but they didn’t know what was about to happen. They are all DEAD now, and it will only get worse!” he added.

Iran, however, pulled out of nuclear talks with the U.S. that were scheduled for Sunday in Oman.

Trump has continued to push for Iran to make a deal, outlining in a Truth Social post on Sunday that he will use trade with the U.S. to leverage a deal between Israel and Iran while citing previous examples of how his intervention led to peace between other nations.

ISRAEL LAUNCHES SWEEPING STRIKE ON IRAN WHILE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION SEEKS DIPLOMATIC SOLUTION

“During my first term, Serbia and Kosovo were going at it hot and heavy, as they have for many decades, and this long time conflict was ready to break out into WAR,” he posted. “I stopped it (Biden has hurt the longer term prospects with some very stupid decisions, but I will fix it, again!). Another case is Egypt and Ethiopia, and their fight over a massive dam that is having an effect on the magnificent Nile River. There is peace, at least for now, because of my intervention, and it will stay that way! Likewise, we will have PEACE, soon, between Israel and Iran! Many calls and meetings now taking place. I do a lot, and never get credit for anything, but that’s OK, the PEOPLE understand. MAKE THE MIDDLE EAST GREAT AGAIN!”

Trump heads to G7 summit

Sunday evening, Trump headed to a remote ski resort town in Alberta, Canada, where he will meet with leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the European Union and the United Kingdom on Monday and Tuesday.

The conference of leaders representing seven of the world’s largest economies marks Trump’s first G7 summit of his second administration and comes amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.

The summit is expected to focus on conflicts in Israel, the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, Trump’s tariff policies and the world’s economy. Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum are also expected to attend the summit.

The summit is slated to run from Monday through Tuesday in the Canadian Rockies, which last hosted a G8 summit in 2002 when Russia was among the countries represented in the informal forum.

Riots broke out in Los Angeles on June 6, when federal law enforcement officials converged on the city to conduct immigration raids. Local elected Democrat officials, such as Gov. Gavin Newsom and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass, condemned the raids while offering words of support to illegal immigrants. The riots spiraled throughout the week as agitators targeted police with heavy objects, looted stores, set cars on fire and shut down highways.

Trump endorses freshman House Republican less than six months into first term

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

President Donald Trump issued a full-throated endorsement of Rep. Abe Hamadeh, R-Ariz., backing the lawmaker for re-election less than half a year into the freshman House member’s first term in office.

“Abe Hamadeh has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Re-Election – HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!” the president declared in a Truth Social post in which he described the congressman as “an America First Patriot.”

Trump endorsed Hamadeh in December 2023, ahead of the 2024 GOP U.S. House primary in Arizona’s 8th Congressional District.

But then later he issued an unusual dual endorsement of both Hamadeh and another GOP primary candidate, Blake Masters, just ahead of the 2024 contest that Hamadeh ultimately won.

Back in February Hamadeh introduced a resolution to limit the types of flags that may be displayed in House facilities, though the text of the proposal stipulates that it would not “apply to the individual personal office space of a Member of the House of Representatives.”

The resolution would allow for displaying the American flag and various other kinds of flags, some of which would include “The State flag of the represented district of a Member of the House of Representatives, displayed adjacent to the office of such Member” and “The flags of visiting foreign dignitaries during an official visit.”

Trump orders ICE to expand deportation efforts in major US cities

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

President Donald Trump on Sunday said ICE must “expand efforts to detain and deport” illegal immigrants in “America’s largest [c]ities,” including Los Angeles, Chicago and New York.”

The president’s comment came in a Truth Social post on Sunday evening after a week of anti-ICE protests that have taken place in major cities across the country, with most demonstrations remaining peaceful while others turned into violent riots in places like LA and Portland.

“Our Nation’s ICE Officers have shown incredible strength, determination, and courage as they facilitate a very important mission, the largest Mass Deportation Operation of Illegal Aliens in History,” Trump wrote. “Every day, the Brave Men and Women of ICE are subjected to violence, harassment, and even threats from Radical Democrat Politicians, but nothing will stop us from executing our mission, and fulfilling our Mandate to the American People.”

“ICE Officers are herewith ordered, by notice of this TRUTH, to do all in their power to achieve the very important goal of delivering the single largest Mass Deportation Program in History,” the president added.

The immigration protests began in LA on June 7, after local ICE raids resulted in hundreds of arrests, including the arrests of those with violent criminal histories. The president immediately deployed the National Guard to the area when protests started two weeks ago, garnering criticism from Democrats insisting their presence would only escalate tensions.

As the protests and riots expanded nationally, continuing into this weekend, violence also took hold of certain crowds, injuring both federal and local law enforcement officials, as well as demonstrators.

On Saturday, an innocent bystander was fatally shot during an organized protest in Salt Lake City, Utah, when two event peacekeepers in neon vests opened fire on a suspect, Arturo Gamboa, 24, who ran toward the crowd with a rifle, and ended up shooting the wrong person.

In spite of the protests, Trump doubled down on his efforts to deport illegal immigrants in his Sunday post.

“In order to achieve this, we must expand efforts to detain and deport Illegal Aliens in America’s largest Cities, such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York, where Millions upon Millions of Illegal Aliens reside,” he said. “These, and other such Cities, are the core of the Democrat Power Center, where they use Illegal Aliens to expand their Voter Base, cheat in Elections, and grow the Welfare State, robbing good paying Jobs and Benefits from Hardworking American Citizens.”

He added that he wants ICE officers “to know that REAL Americans are cheering [them] on every day.”

“The American People want our Cities, Schools, and Communities to be SAFE and FREE from Illegal Alien Crime, Conflict, and Chaos,” he wrote. “That’s why I have directed my entire Administration to put every resource possible behind this effort, and reverse the tide of Mass Destruction Migration that has turned once Idyllic Towns into scenes of Third World Dystopia. Our Federal Government will continue to be focused on the REMIGRATION of Aliens to the places from where they came, and preventing the admission of ANYONE who undermines the domestic tranquility of the United States.”

ICE has organized several high-profile raids across the country as part of the president’s campaign promise to deliver mass-deportations. Trump promised to prioritize criminal illegal aliens, but critics allege the administration is separating families and targeting non-criminal workers.

Gallery: Violent LA riots see burning flags, cars ablaze after immigration raids

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Riots have gripped Los Angeles since June 6, as agitators took to the streets to burn American flags, set cars ablaze and hurl heavy objects at federal law enforcement in a violent display of rejection of President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

Fox News Digital took a look back at the most viral and violent moments of the riots, as captured in photos, following renewed protests on Saturday evening as thousands poured onto LA streets as part of the “No Kings Day” protests that unfolded in cities nationwide. The protests on Saturday were planned for the same day as Trump’s birthday and when the president held a massive military parade in Washington, D.C., honoring the Army’s 250th anniversary.

LIBERAL MEDIA DOWNPLAYS LA RIOTS, DISMISS VIOLENCE AS ISOLATED WHILE TOUTING ‘PEACEFUL’ ANTI-ICE PROTESTS

Riots broke out in L.A. the evening of Friday, June 6, after federal law enforcement officials converged on the city to carry out immigration raids. State and local leaders, such as Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Gov. Gavin Newsom, quickly denounced the raids in public statements while offering words of support for illegal immigrants in the state.

Protests over the raids soon devolved into violence as rioters targeted federal law enforcement officials, including launching rocks at officials, with videos showing people looting local stores, setting cars on fire and taking over a freeway.

Trump announced last weekend that 2,000 National Guard members would be deployed to help quell the violence, while the administration additionally deployed hundreds of Marines to respond to anti-immigration chaos on Monday evening as the violence continued.

“If I didn’t ‘SEND IN THE TROOPS’ to Los Angeles the last three nights, that once beautiful and great City would be burning to the ground right now,” Trump posted to Truth Social on Tuesday morning.

California launched a lawsuit against the administration for activating the National Guard, which bypassed the governor, who typically deploys the National Guard during a state of emergency.

A U.S. district judge sided with Newsom and his administration’s lawsuit in a decision Thursday ordering Trump to return control of the Guard to the state “forthwith.” A federal appeals court on Thursday, however, issued an administrative stay of the lower court’s order, handing the Trump administration a temporary win.

Federal officials pinned blame for the violence on Democratic elected officials who have “villainized and demonized” ICE law enforcement, Fox News Digital previously reported.

CALIFORNIA REPUBLICANS SLAM NEWSOM, BASS FOR LETTING LA BURN WITH RIOTS AMID TRUMP IMMIGRATION BLITZ

“The violent targeting of law enforcement in Los Angeles by lawless rioters is despicable and Mayor Bass and Governor Newsom must call for it to end,” Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin wrote in a statement last weekend. “The men and women of ICE put their lives on the line to protect and defend the lives of American citizens. . . . From comparisons to the modern-day Nazi gestapo to glorifying rioters, the violent rhetoric of these sanctuary politicians is beyond the pale. This violence against ICE must end.”

The U.S. Secret Service confirmed on Thursday that it is “aware” of the graffiti messages threatening, “Kill Trump.”

The protests and riots found renewed support on Saturday in a “No Kings Day” protest, when thousands took to the streets to protest what they said was Trump conducting himself as a “king” and not a president. “No Kings” protests were held in cities across the nation on the same of the massive military parade honoring the U.S. Army, which fell on Flag Day and Trump’s 79th birthday.

Former Biden press secretary Jean-Pierre leaves Democratic Party for Independent

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Former Biden-era White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre abruptly left the Democratic Party in her rear-view mirror, announcing in June that she had become an Independent after spending more than two years as President Joe Biden‘s top spokesperson and defender.

“Our country has become obsessed with blind loyalty to a two-party democratic system. In her new book, timed for publication just one year after the 2024 election, Karine Jean-Pierre shares why Americans must begin to look beyond party lines and why she chose to embrace life as an Independent,” a press release announcing Jean-Pierre’s upcoming book, “Independent,” stated while revealing that the former spox had ditched the Democratic Party.

“Jean-Pierre didn’t come to her decision to be an Independent lightly, she has served two American presidents, Obama and Biden. . . . She takes us through the three weeks that led to Biden’s abandoning his bid for a second term and the betrayal by the Democratic Party that led to his decision,” the press release continued.

Fox News Digital took a look back at Jean-Pierre’s history as press secretary – which spanned from May 13, 2022, until January 20, 2025 – including the most partisan stances and statements she made in defense of the administration as the immigration crisis spiraled to new highs, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the administration embraced transgender issues, and the White House’s heated rhetoric aimed at President Donald Trump ahead of the 2024 election.

“We are not finishing a wall. We are cleaning up the mess that the prior administration made. We are trying to save lives. This is what the prior administration left behind that we are now cleaning up,” Jean-Pierre declared from the White House briefing room’s podium in July of 2022, as the Biden administration said it would not continue work on the Trump administration’s border wall.

“A border wall is an ineffective use of taxpayer dollars, so it’s ineffective,” she added.

Months later, as Title 42, a Trump-era policy that allowed U.S. officials to turn away migrants who came to the U.S.-Mexico border because of health concerns was set to expire, Jean-Pierre argued, “It would be wrong to think that the border is open. It is not open.”

Critics at the time slammed the press secretary over the comment, calling the comment a “bold-faced lie” as migrants were seen coming across the border with little consequences.

The Biden administration was in power when the Supreme Court issued its landmark decision effectively ending the recognition of abortion as a constitutional right in the Dobbs v. Jackson decision in June of 2022, with Jean-Pierre calling the ruling “extreme.”

“When the Supreme Court made that extreme decision on Dobbs, it really put a lot of families and women’s lives at risk,” she said during a press conference in July of 2022.

“Tomorrow is Trans Visibility Day,” Jean-Pierre said during a March 2023 press conference slamming Republicans who put forth legislation that aimed to keep biological boys out of girls’ sports and end transgender surgeries for minors. “On a day that we should be lifting up our trans kids and our trans youth and making sure that they feel seen, we’re seen more and more of these hateful, hateful bills.”

“We’ve been very clear about these anti-LGBTQ bills that we’re seeing in state legislatures across the country, in particular these anti-trans bills, as they attack trans kids, as they attack trans parents. It is shameful, and it is unacceptable,” she added.

In the months leading up to Election Day, Trump faced two separate assassination attempts, including one in Butler, Pennsylvania, during a campaign rally in July that left him with an injury to the side of his head after a bullet whizzed towards him, and another in September when a man attempted to kill Trump while he played golf in Florida.

“It’s been only two days since somebody allegedly tried to kill Donald Trump again, and you’re here at the podium in the White House briefing room calling him a threat,” Fox News’ Peter Doocy pressed during a news conference in September of 2024. “How many more assassination attempts on Donald Trump until the president and the vice president and you pick a different word to describe Trump other than ‘threat’?”

Then-Vice President Kamala Harris and Biden had both repeatedly claimed that “Democracy is on the ballot” last year amid Trump’s re-election campaign. While the White House, Biden and Harris additionally described Trump as a “threat” to democracy, Fox Digital previously extensively reported.

Jean-Pierre exhaled in a sign of disapproval before answering: “Peter, if anything, from this administration, I actually completely disagree with the premise of your question, the question that you’re asking. It is also incredibly dangerous in the way that you are asking it, because American people are watching. And to say that, when you start bringing political rhetoric. . . . That is not okay.”

“There are people watching at home who might miss the part where you say, let’s lower the temperature. And there are mentally unstable people who are attempting to kill political candidates, attempting to kill Donald Trump. And they are still hearing this White House refer to him as a threat. Is there no concern?” Doocy continued in the press conference.

“We’re using examples. We’re not just saying that just to say it,” Jean-Pierre responded.

Padilla claims he wasn’t disruptive despite shouting over Noem at presser

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Democratic Sen. Alex Padilla of California on Sunday claimed that he was just trying to ask a question when he was forcibly removed from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s press conference in Los Angeles last week.

Padilla recalled his side of the story during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” saying that he was already in the building for a separate briefing when he decided to attend Noem’s press conference about the recent immigration protests and riots in Los Angeles.

But what happened next, he said, “you can’t script this in Hollywood.”

“I wasn’t trying to be disrespectful or disruptive – and I don’t think I was,” the senator said. “I was simply asking a question just as the members of the press corps ask questions, members of the Congress, members of the Senate ask questions to do our job to hold the administration accountable.”

Padilla was handcuffed and briefly detained by officers as he aimed to speak out in opposition to Trump administration immigration raids that sparked unrest in Los Angeles and smaller protests across the country this month.

Videos of the incident showed Padilla attempting to walk up to Noem while she was speaking at a podium and trying to shout over the secretary, but law enforcement stepped in and forcefully stopped Padilla’s advance.

Padilla was eventually taken out of the room, brought to the ground and handcuffed, the videos showed. Fox News reporters who were present at the news conference said Padilla appeared to be detained for a period of time.

Padilla and Noem ended up holding a meeting afterward, which Padilla’s office described as “civil,” and Noem described as “cordial” despite the strong disagreements between the two.

Padilla said during another Sunday television appearance on CBS’ “Face the Nation” that he learned “nothing substantive, nothing informative” from the later meeting with Noem.

LA Mayor Bass: Five arrested, 30 citations as 30,000 rioters took to streets

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Democratic Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass says what is happening in her city does not compare to the 1992 Rodney King riots that followed the acquittal of white police officers who were videotaped beating the Black motorist.

Despite a growing list of arrests, tens of thousands of people taking to the streets and curfew put in place, Bass told CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday that this is nothing like what happened more than 30 years ago.

“There is zero comparison,” Bass told host Dana Bash. “I was at the epicenter when it was occurring.”

“It was a citywide civil unrest,” she continued. “It was the nation’s worst in terms of the most costly, the number of people died, the number of people arrested. There is no comparison. And unfortunately, that is what is being pushed, as though the city is in chaos, there’s civil unrest everywhere. For most Angelenos, they’re like, what city are they describing? They are definitely not describing Los Angeles.”

Bass said the anti-ICE riots are occurring within one to two square miles of a city that is 500 square miles. While speaking with Bash, she acknowledged that both police officers and rioters were injured during the unrest.

The mayor criticized ICE raids for their economic impact, noting the construction, fashion and restaurant industries.

“The disruption and the fear that has been caused by the raids has really had a devastating effect and has been a bodyblow to our economy. I don’t think the president understands that we have entire sectors of our economy that cannot function without immigrant labor,” she said.

On Saturday, the scene took a turn from peaceful to violent as rising unrest spurred police to deploy tear gas.

Patriots from across America flock to DC military parade on Trump’s birthday

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Attendees of Saturday’s military parade in the nation’s capital came from all corners of the United States, and Fox News Digital spoke to several of them to hear why they had traveled from near and far to attend the one-of-a-kind event.

Some attendees were local, while others drove hundreds of miles to see the event honoring the Army’s 250th birthday. Saturday also was Flag Day, celebrated each year to commemorate the adoption of the American flag in 1777, as well as President Donald Trump’s birthday.

“For me, this is a sense of patriotism,” one attendee from the Baltimore-area said. “We’re celebrating Flag Day, the 250th anniversary of the Army — coincidentally, it’s also Donald Trump’s birthday.”

Attendees from across the country who spoke to Fox News Digital said that they were there to honor our troops, but many said that they were there supporting Trump as well.

“There’s no better time to come to D.C. to support our military than when we have a president who really respects our military – a president like Donald Trump,” one attendee, who traveled from Florida to be at the parade, said. “There’s no better time to come.”

“We’re very patriotic people, so I think it’s important to come here and just observe it, just enjoy it,” said another attendee who had traveled from Northern Kentucky. “It’s Trump’s birthday, so that’s good, too,” they added.

“Army celebration,” another veteran said when asked why they drove from Ann Arbor, Michigan, to attend.

GOP Rep. Gill suggests arresting governors who violate immigration laws

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

EXCLUSIVE: A first-term House GOP firebrand is arguing that state governors who run afoul of federal immigration laws should be arrested.

“I think if they are openly flouting federal law and obstructing federal law enforcement, then that’s something we should consider,” Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, told Fox News Digital Thursday.

Gill’s brief interview occurred on the sidelines of the House Oversight Committee’s high-profile sanctuary state hearing with the Democratic governors of New York, Illinois and Minnesota.

Outside Washington, meanwhile, rioters in Los Angeles have been facing off with law enforcement as California’s Democratic leaders accuse the Trump administration of escalating violent tensions. President Donald Trump and his allies, in turn, claim Gov. Gavin Newsom and others are flouting federal immigration law, which Newsom has denied.

Trump has called for Newsom to be arrested, a declaration Democrats have panned as authoritarian.

But Gill suggested it was warranted if the progressive governor — or others like him — were found to have broken any laws.

“I think if they’re breaking the law, and they are obstructing federal law enforcement of federal immigration, then yes, they should be [arrested],” Gill said.

“I don’t think that we should be turning our cities into anarchic hellholes. And that’s what’s happening.”

A spokesperson for Newsom told Fox News Digital in response to Gill’s comments, “Our state laws do not conflict with any federal law. Period. Full stop.”

LA arrests

It’s a clash Newsom and Trump have seen before. In 2019, a federal court upheld the California Values Act, the state’s sanctuary law, against a challenge from the Trump administration.

But there’s new legal back-and-forth over Trump’s right to send the National Guard into Los Angeles over Newsom’s objections.

A federal judge ruled Thursday that Trump must return control of the California National Guard to Newsom, but an appeals court quickly reversed that decision.

Gill’s focus during the sanctuary state House Oversight Committee hearing was aimed at Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, who he accused of being lax about and even supportive of illegal immigration.

He said Pritzker was in favor of “welcoming” illegal immigrants to the U.S., but the Illinois Democrat countered that he was referring to asylum seekers.

At one point, Pritzker said he supported the need for federal immigration authorities, but Gill challenged him.

“Your administration gave $12,000 to the Organized Communities Against Deportations, which just this past month was marching in the streets of Chicago with signs that say ‘Abolish ICE,'” Gill said.

“Is this a reflection of your moral values?” Gill asked.

Pritzker replied, “I do not support abolishing an immigration force.”

Watchdog group says Democrats mislead on GOP gender transition funding ban

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

After House Republicans passed reconciliation language banning taxpayer funds from paying for sex change treatments, Democrats began using language to drum up opposition that conservative watchdog group the American Principles Project says is meant “to confuse people and make it sound like we’re trying to ban normal healthcare, medically necessary healthcare.”

The House-passed version of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act includes provisions that prohibit federal Medicaid and Affordable Care Act funding from being spent on “gender transition procedures for any age” in all 50 states.

In response, Democrats and left-wing groups have begun claiming the GOP’s spending package seeks to eliminate “medically-necessary care.”

However, according to APP President Terry Schilling, “it’s a lie” and an effort to combat the prevailing notion among Americans that taxpayer funds should not be paying for transgender procedures.

‘RIGHT DOWN THE LINE’: MEDICAID REFORM IN ‘BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL’ DIVIDES LAWMAKERS BY PARTY

“They’re deliberately obfuscating here, and it’s because they don’t have any good arguments,” Schilling told Fox News Digital. “We shouldn’t be paying for any cosmetic sex change procedures with our tax dollars, and that’s what we’re cutting here.

“But they’re introducing and now ramping up these highly weaponized and high-powered words to confuse people and make it sound like we’re trying to ban normal healthcare, medically necessary healthcare.”

After Republicans in the House of Representatives passed their version of the GOP spending package last month, the Congressional Equality Caucus complained that “Congress should be working to make healthcare more affordable – not banning coverage of medically necessary care.”

“House Republicans changed a previous anti-trans provision so it now cuts off federal Medicaid and Affordable Care Act funding for medically-necessary care for ALL transgender people — no matter their age,” a press release from the pro-trans Human Rights Campaign said after the House passed its spending bill.

According to APP’s Schilling, arguments that Republicans are taking away “medically necessary” healthcare from anyone are “just not true.”

To make his point, APP’s Schilling pointed to one of the left’s frequent sources for transgender medical recommendations, the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). Schilling pointed out that WPATH’s guidelines and standards explicitly state there is no “one-size-fits-all approach” to treating individuals with gender dysphoria.

“These are not medically necessary [treatments]. It’s a lie. These are cosmetic,” Schilling argued. “If you look at WPATH, even according to their own standards, transgender-identifying people don’t actually have to medically transition. They say there’s no one size fits all. Well, I’m sorry, but medically necessary means you need it in order to survive. You need it for your health. And they’re saying in their own writings that it’s not medically necessary, that it’s not a one-size-fits-all.”

Schilling added that they’re “arguing out of both sides of their mouth.”

“We’re calling out the transgender industry, and we’re trying to stop them from confusing even more people as we pass a very, very good and important bill,” he said.

FIRST-KNOWN PUBERTY BLOCKER PATIENT SAYS ‘INSULTING’ YOUTH GENDER MOVEMENT MAKES MOCKERY OF TRUE DYSPHORIA

In a statement to Fox News Digital, the Human Rights Campaign argued “gender-affirming care” is considered “best practice” and “evidence-based” by every major medical association in the country, noting that studies have shown it significantly improves mental health outcomes for transgender youth.

“Healthcare decisions should be made by patients, families, and doctors — not the American Principles Project,” HRC said.

Schilling said he has run numerous polls and focus groups about whether Americans agree with taxpayer funds supporting individuals’ gender transitions, and he told Fox News Digital that the overwhelming sentiment from people across the political spectrum is that they should not.

“Here’s where Americans are at,” Schilling said. “They want to ban the procedures for anyone under 18. And, anyone over 18, they want you to pay for it yourself. That’s where they’re at, and that’s where [APP is] at, and that’s where Donald Trump is at. That’s where Republicans in the House and Senate are at.”

LA activist group faces investigation over anti-ICE protests

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The anti-ICE protests and riots in Los Angeles brought heightened scrutiny on activist groups, including the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, the Party for Socialism and Liberation, and Union del Barrio.

CHIRLA and the other groups are now subject to an investigation by Sen. Josh Hawley, R-MO., through the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Counterterrorism, and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said that the Internal Revenue Service is looking into any possible funding of “violent” acts, according to CBS News.

Hawley sent letters to the groups for an “alleged role in financing and materially supporting the coordinated protests and riots that have gulfed Los Angeles.”

“Credible reporting now suggests that your organization has provided logistical support and financial resources to individuals engaged in these disruptive actions,” Hawley wrote in the letters. “Let me be clear: bankrolling civil unrest is not protected speech. It is aiding and abetting criminal conduct.”

CHIRLA Executive Director Angelica Salas condemned the ICE sweeps in Los Angeles during a news conference with Mayor Karen Bass on Thursday, adding that Republicans are “saying the most vicious lies of who we are, what we do and what we’re about.”

“And yes, we have received a letter from Sen. Josh Hawley. But what I want you to know is that’s not going to deter us, it’s not going to intimidate us from standing with our immigrant community,” Salas said.

CHIRLA said they have not played a role in the violence, according to the New York Post earlier this week. Some parts of the city faced property damage, including vehicles and businesses.

The organization has received $34 million in taxpayer funding in the past, including $750,000 under the Biden administration, according to IRS records obtained by Fox News.

“Yesterday, our raids rapid response network did not stop receiving calls until after 7 p.m.,” Salas said. “And so, there’s two kinds of reports. It’s the community is also very scared. So even if they’re not at an enforcement site, what’s happening is they’re witnessing everything.”

CHIRLA operates a “deportation defense” legal team, along with other immigration resources, according to its website.

“CHIRLA relies on the love and vision of our community to organize and build power among people, institutions, and organizations to change public opinion and craft progressive policies that promote human, civil and labor rights for everyone,” the group’s website states on its mission page.

The FBI told Fox News Digital earlier this week that if any evidence of a criminal conspiracy emerges, they will look into it.

Trump received a flag at the Army’s 250th birthday parade on his 79th birthday

As President Donald Trump closed his remarks and invited first lady Melania Trump to the dais along U.S. 50 in downtown Washington, the assembled crowd of thousands began an impromptu rendition of “Happy Birthday.”

The president, who turned 79 Saturday, smiled and paused as the singing gave way to a young Army officer approaching with a folded U.S. flag.

The officer presented Trump the flag on behalf of the U.S. Army Golden Knights and said it had flown over the Capitol earlier in the day to commemorate the nation’s oldest military branch.

Trump had received blowback, mostly from the left, for holding the Army commemoration with critics pointing out it also fell on his birthday.

“I’m horrified by the parade, because this is not about honoring our military,” Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., a frequent Trump critic, said on a recent podcast. “It’s a military vanity show for a president who’s long wanted to have tanks rolling down the streets of our nation’s capital.”

Thousands join ‘No Kings’ protest in Alexandria as DC parade prep begins

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Thousands converged on downtown Alexandria, Virginia, to protest President Donald Trump and the parade celebrating the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army, while security kept things under wraps across the river in the District of Columbia ahead of the parade.

The loosely constructed “No Kings” movement, notably supported by Walmart heiress Chrissy Walton, planned to hold dozens of protests across the country. And, so far, the protest just out of sight of the White House appeared to be generating a lot of interest.

Reports of crowds from 1,000 to 5,000 people, assembled in Market Square in Alexandria, Virginia, to protest the idea that Trump would hold a military parade on what is also his 79th birthday, according to X accounts.

Independent Women’s Forum official Julie Gunlock shared an accounting of events Saturday, posting a collage on X that featured people waving signs that said “I like my ICE crushed,” “King of Farts” and “Happy Obama Appreciation Day.”

Another X snippet showed a growing crowd in Market Square as the closing bars of the “Star-Spangled Banner” played from a boombox. One protester noted that Alexandria, Virginia, is where Vice President JD Vance’s recent private residence was.

With US Highway 1 divided into the major north-south streets “Patrick” and “Henry” through downtown and its history as the closest city to George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate, references made online described how Alexandria was a fitting place to oppose a supposed king.

Accounts described the crowd as largely “elderly” while others contended there were attendees of all ages.

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin warned potential troublemakers statewide Friday he had “integrated” the Virginia National Guard with the Virginia State Police to protect life, property and egress on the Commonwealth’s roadways.

“We cannot allow people to put people’s lives in jeopardy by disrupting traffic or anything along those lines,” Youngkin told reporters.

“And so, if you break the law, you’re going to get arrested,” he said. “I will protect everybody’s constitutional right, but if you break the law, you’re going to get arrested.”

Protests also cropped up Saturday afternoon in Hampton Roads, Virginia, as Trump’s parade took shape just across the Potomac River from another counterprotest scheduled in the wealthy liberal enclave of Falls Church, Virginia.

The co-organizer of the Norfolk, Virginia, “No Kings” protest said of Trump, “This is not his kingdom. We are not his subjects,” in comments to The Virginian-Pilot.

In Washington, thousands also converged ahead of the parade, wearing patriotic or pro-Trump gear and MAGA hats.

Paradegoers who spoke to Fox News Digital overwhelmingly reported that they did not expect violence in Washington Saturday, citing the tight security.

“I haven’t seen many protesters, but I’ve seen a couple of signs.”

Another attendee in Washington said the event felt “family-oriented” and safe.

Security Saturday included the Secret Service, police officers and military members stationed along entry checkpoints and walking among the throngs of paradegoers. Trump’s parade kicked off early, just before 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, with law enforcement vetting people attending with metal detectors and pat-downs.

Streets surrounding historic spots near the parade route, like the White House and Washington Monument, were shut down and barricaded to bolster safety.

Fox News Digital spotted a handful of protesters carrying signs denouncing Trump as a dictator and Black Lives Matter signs and other messages calling for equality, but crowds surrounding the entry points for the parade were primarily comprised of Trump supporters, veterans, families and others who came out for the patriotic parade.

Officials from Walmart reportedly said advertisements from Walton are “in no way connected to or endorsed by Walmart.”

Trump’s military parade for Army’s 250th anniversary faces protests, storms

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump’s historic military parade honoring the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary kicked off in the nation’s capital Saturday evening.

Thousands of Americans, including veterans, youth and dads celebrating Father’s Day, flocked to downtown D.C. donned in “Make America Great Again” hats and patriotic gear displaying Old Glory, despite the balmy weather and thunderstorms brewing.

The crowds went wild with applause upon Trump’s arrival alongside first Lady Melania Trump — an introduction accompanied by a gun salute as parade-goers chanted “USA.” Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Vice President JD Vance also received widespread applause upon their introductions.

Live music poured through the crowds ahead of the parade kicking off, as parade-goers swayed to the music while fanning themselves in the summer D.C. heat. The crowds were heard singing “Happy Birthday” and chanting “We love Trump” after the parade officially kicked off.

The parade stretches down Constitution Avenue, beginning near the Lincoln Memorial and concluding near the Washington Monument at about 9:30 p.m. The parade honors the 250th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Army — which was established one year before the signing of the Declaration of Independence — and also coincides with Flag Day and Trump’s 79th birthday.

The patriotic event is part of Trump’s “Task Force 250,” which was established in January by an executive order and coordinates plans celebrating the 250th anniversary of American independence on July 4, 2026.

The parade, however, comes as riots and protests continue in Los Angeles over the Trump administration’s immigration efforts to deport millions of illegal aliens who flooded the nation under the Biden administration, and after Israel launched preemptive strikes on Iran Thursday evening.

The parade was slated to face stormy weather, with forecasters predicting thunderstorms Saturday afternoon and rain going into the evening.

Protests in response to the military parade, and recent ICE raids being conducted in Los Angeles, are unfolding in cities nationwide. In Washington, a Refuse Fascism protest, an “equity march” in downtown D.C., as well as a “Pro-Democracy Picnic” at Fort Reno Park were scheduled for Saturday, Fox News Digital previously reported.

The security for the event, however, has been incredibly tight, with Secret Service, police officers and military members stationed along entry checkpoints and walking among the throngs of people. Attendees also were required to go through metal detectors and undergo additional pat-downs to reach the parade route.

“No Kings” protesters converged on cities nationwide to protest what they say is Trump leading the nation like a “king,” though there will not be a “No Kings” protests in D.C. proper Saturday. Instead, such protests were held in neighboring towns and cities, such as in the Virginia cities of Alexandria and Arlington.

Trump was asked about the “No Kings” protest during a Thursday bill-signing event at the White House, which sparked Trump to quip he “doesn’t feel like a king.”

“I don’t feel like a king,” Trump responded. “I have to go through hell to get stuff approved. A king would say, ‘I’m not gonna get this.’ A king would have never had the California mandate to even be talking. He wouldn’t have to call up (Speaker) Mike Johnson and (Senate Majority Leader John) Thune and say, ‘Fellas you got to pull this off’ and after years we get it done,” he said, referring to three resolutions he signed Thursday ending electric vehicle mandates originating in California. “No, no we’re not a king. We’re not a king at all.”

Trump previously said that any potential violent protesters targeting the parade will be met with a “very heavy force.”

TRUMP WARNS ANY POTENTIAL PROTESTORS AT HIS MILITARY PARADE WILL BE ‘MET WITH VERY BIG FORCE’

“If there’s any protest once they come out, they will be met with very big force,” Trump told reporters Tuesday. “I haven’t even heard about a protest. But people that hate our country … they will be met with very heavy force.”

The parade has been celebrated by the administration as the “biggest” military parade in U.S. history.

“We love our military and take great pride in honoring our warfighters,” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in a May statement to Fox News. “In celebration of 250 years of the U.S. Army, we will throw the biggest and most beautiful military parade in our nation’s history.”

“The president is planning an historic celebration of the Army’s 250th birthday that will honor generations of selfless Americans who have risked everything for our freedom,” White House Domestic Policy Council Director Vince Haley added in comment to Fox Digital in May, previewing the parade.

“Exactly 250 years ago, the first American patriots died for the cause of Independence. We owe our freedom to them and to every solider who has given their life for our nation in the 2½ centuries since.”

Approximately 6,600 U.S. soldiers were scheduled to participate in the parade. The parade also was said to include 150 Army vehicles, including the Abrams tank and 50 aircraft, including the Black Hawk.

There was a planned flyover and a parachute jump, and historical military re-enactors.

The parade comes after Israel launched preemptive strikes on Iran Thursday evening following months of attempted and stalled nuclear negotiations and subsequent heightened concern Iran was advancing its nuclear program. The strikes targeted Iran’s nuclear and missile infrastructure, and killed at least four Iranian military leaders.

Iran has said the strikes were a “declaration of war.”

“Two months ago I gave Iran a 60 day ultimatum to “make a deal.” They should have done it! Today is day 61. I told them what to do, but they just couldn’t get there. Now they have, perhaps, a second chance!” Trump posted to Truth Social on Friday ahead of meeting with his National Security Council to discuss the strikes.

Senate Republicans likely to delay Big Beautiful Bill vote until late June

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Fox has learned that it is doubtful that Senate Republicans will put the Big, Beautiful Bill on the floor for debate and a vote next week. That likely waits until the week of June 22. This potentially jeopardizes final passage of the measure through the Senate AND House by July 4.

The Senate Finance Committee is expected to release its text of the bill as early as Monday. That section of the legislation is the most expansive and probably most controversial. Key tax provisions like SALT (state and local tax reductions), potential spending cuts and changes to Medicare/Medicaid all appear in this section of the legislation.

Senators and Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough will then begin a process of weeding out provisions which do not comport with strict Senate Budget provisions. That’s why the plan probably isn’t ready for debate and a “vote-a-rama” until the week after next.

If the Senate advances the bill, the House will have a tight window to either accept the Senate changes and greenlight the bill before July 4 – or bounce it back to the Senate with yet ANOTHER set of changes.

Such a scenario would most certainly stretch out the process beyond the July 4 deadline. It would also compel the Senate to take a 4th vote-a-rama in just a matter of months. That’s where the Senate votes for hours on end with one roll call after another.

Keep in mind that July 4 is merely an aspirational deadline. Not a hard one. The true deadline is early August. That’s when the Treasury Department says the U.S. will collide with the debt ceiling. A debt ceiling increase is part of the Big, Beautiful Bill.

States brace for ‘No Kings’ protests during Trump’s military parade

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

As President Donald Trump’s military parade kicks off in Washington to commemorate the 250th birthday of the U.S. Army Saturday, governors in several states are also on high alert for violence at demonstrations opposing the parade and voicing anger at the contention it is a proxy to celebrate the president’s 79th birthday.

A loose confederation of counterprotests, called “No Kings,” are expected to take place across the country in smaller cities, particularly in red states, like Shepherdstown, West Virginia; Valdosta, Georgia; and Austin, Texas.

West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey said Friday he was aware of several such demonstrations planned across the Mountain State.

“I support the constitutional right to free speech and assembly, but West Virginia will uphold law and order,” Morrisey said in a statement.

“We will not tolerate looting, destruction, vandalism or any violence toward law enforcement.”

Protests are also expected in West Virginia’s Wheeling, Charleston and Martinsburg, and Morrisey added that the West Virginia State Police is at the ready to “quell any actions that cross the line.”

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin warned potential troublemakers he has “integrated” the Virginia National Guard with the Virginia State Police to protect life, property and egress on the Commonwealth’s roadways.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT TODAY’S ‘NO KINGS’ ANTI-TRUMP RALLIES ACROSS THE US

“We cannot allow people to put people’s lives in jeopardy by disrupting traffic or anything along those lines,” Youngkin told reporters Friday.

“And, so, if you break the law, you’re going to get arrested,” he added. “I will protect everybody’s constitutional right, but if you break the law, you’re going to get arrested.”

As of Saturday afternoon, protests cropped up in Hampton Roads, Virginia, and beyond as Trump’s parade took shape just across the Potomac River from another counterprotest scheduled in Falls Church, Virginia.

The co-organizer of Norfolk’s “No Kings” protest said of Trump, “This is not his kingdom. We are not his subjects,” in comments to The Virginian-Pilot.

“This isn’t about politics. This is about honor,” another demonstrator told the paper.

Virginia also was one of five states Axios reported to have the most sizable ICE-related illegal immigrant arrests and related law enforcement activity in recent weeks.

A protest made its way down Broad Street in the capital of Richmond, Virginia, earlier this week opposing that condition.

In Georgia, Gov. Brian Kemp said in a statement he was aware of and prepared for protests in the Peach State.

“My office … stands ready to take whatever appropriate action is needed to safeguard our communities from crime and violence while also respecting the constitutional right to peaceful assembly,” Kemp said.

“My support for public safety officers and the rule of law is unwavering, and any violence against those who protect and serve will be met with quick and heavy accountability.”

In Pennsylvania, a sizable “No Kings” protest materialized at Love Park in Center City Philadelphia. Protesters later moved on to the Art Museum, made famous by Sylvester Stallone in “Rocky.”

Gov. Josh Shapiro told KYW-3 he and Philadelphia Democratic Mayor Cherelle Parker have been in contact in a city known for civilian mayhem after its sports teams compete in championships.

“We’ll make sure it’s a peaceful day here in Philadelphia,” Shapiro said, openly asking protesters to do so peacefully.

“Violence is not an answer … and is not going to be permitted,” the potential 2028 Democratic presidential hopeful said.

By 1 p.m. Central Time Saturday, a protest in Chicago drew thousands of demonstrators, including 83-year-old Rev. Jesse Jackson being pushed in a wheelchair at the front of the procession.

Boycott threats were made against Walmart after Chrissy Walton, a daughter-in-law of its founder, publicly promoted the “No Kings” protests. The company distanced itself, saying it does not endorse the protests nor does Walton serve in any managerial capacity.
