Where Zelenskyy is headed following tense White House exchange with Trump, Vance

Ukraine President Vlodomyr Zelenskyy departed the White House ahead of schedule on Friday, following a heated exchange with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance that culminated in the U.S. leader showing Zelenskyy the door.

Zelenskyy was seen hopping into his SUV outside the White House on Friday afternoon after he got into a heated exchange with the president and vice president in a meeting that was intended to bring Ukraine closer to ending a yearslong war with Russia.

The Ukraine president traveled to the U.S. on Friday to meet with Trump at the White House, just hours after Trump celebrated that a peace negotiation to end the war between Ukraine and Russia was in its final stages.

The Trump administration, as part of the peace deal, was working to ink an agreement with Ukraine that would allow the U.S. access to Ukraine’s minerals in exchange for support the U.S. has offered the nation since war broke out in 2022. Instead, the deal was not signed and a planned press conference was canceled after Trump asked Zelenskyy to leave the White House, a White House official told Fox News.

Zelenskyy was scheduled to speak before the Hudson Institute, a D.C.-based think tank, late Friday afternoon, but event coordinators reportedly announced the speech was canceled.

He is still slated to join Fox News’ Bret Baier for an exclusive interview on “Special Report” at 6 p.m. ET.

TRUMP, VANCE AND ZELENSKYY SPAR OVER RUSSIAN WAR IN TENSE EXCHANGE: ‘VERY DISRESPECTFUL’

The White House meeting grew tense in its final approximate 10 minutes, after Vance said that peace would be reached between Russia and Ukraine through U.S. diplomacy efforts.

“Mr. President, with respect, I think it’s disrespectful for you to come into the Oval Office to try to litigate this in front of the American media,” Vance told Zelenskyy. “Right now, you guys are going around and forcing conscripts to the front lines because you have manpower problems. You should be thanking the president for bringing it, to bring it into this country.”

“Have you’ve ever been to Ukraine that you say what problems we have?” Zelenskyy shot back.

“I’ve actually watched and seen the stories and I know that what happens is you bring people, you bring them on a propaganda tour,” Vance continued. “Mr. President, do you disagree that you’ve had problems bringing people into your military? And do you think that it’s respectful to come to the Oval Office of the United States of America and attack the administration that is trying to, trying to prevent the destruction of your country?”

Zelenskyy continued that under war, “everybody has problems, even you,” and that the U.S. would feel the war “in the future.”

“Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel,” Trump shot back at Zelenskyy.

“You’re gambling with the lives of millions of people,” Trump added at another point during the exchange. “You’re gambling with World War III. You’re gambling with World War III. And what you’re doing is very disrespectful to the country, this country.”

Vance interjected, asking Zelenskyy if he had “said thank you once this entire meeting.”

“You went to Pennsylvania and campaigned for the opposition in October — offer some words of appreciation for the United States of America and the president who’s trying to save your country,” Vance said.

TRUMP AND ZELENSKYY WAR OF WORDS HEATS UP EVEN AS US LOOKS TO WIND DOWN WAR IN UKRAINE

“The problem is I’ve empowered you to be a tough guy, and I don’t think you’d be a tough guy without the United States,” Trump said before the meeting concluded. “And your people are very brave. But you’re either going to make a deal or we’re out. And if we’re out, you’ll fight it out. I don’t think it’s going to be pretty, but you’ll fight it out. But you don’t have the cards. But once we sign that deal, you’re in a much better position. But you’re not acting at all thankful. And that’s not a nice thing. I’ll be honest. That’s not a nice thing.”

“We had a very meaningful meeting in the White House today,” Trump wrote. “Much was learned that could never be understood without conversation under such fire and pressure.”

“It’s amazing what comes out through emotion, and I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for Peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations,” he wrote. “I don’t want advantage, I want PEACE. He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for Peace.”

Zelenskyy posted his own social media post Friday afternoon, profusely thanking U.S. officials for their support.

“Thank you America, thank you for your support, thank you for this visit,” he posted to X. “Thank you @POTUS, Congress, and the American people. Ukraine needs just and lasting peace, and we are working exactly for that.”

Ukraine ambassador’s reaction to fiery Trump-Zelenskyy Oval Office clash goes viral

During a heated exchange between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office on Friday, Ukrainian Ambassador Oksana Markarova appeared distraught with her head in her hand.

The moment was captured in a number of viral photos and videos as Trump questioned Zelenskyy about not wanting a ceasefire with Russia at a live White House press event.

As shaky microphones hovered above the spatting leaders, Markarova lowered her head to her right hand and closed her eyes.

President Trump addressed Zelenskyy, saying, “You’re saying you don’t want a ceasefire. I want a ceasefire because you get a ceasefire faster than an agreement.”

The Ukrainian president chimed in, “I said to you … with guarantees. Ask our people about [a] ceasefire, [about] what they think.”

Trump starkly halted the conversation, saying “that wasn’t with me.”

The leaders were expected to sign a deal sharing Ukraine’s rare earth minerals and discuss a peace deal with Russia when the conversation turned contentious.

After questions were posed by Zelenskyy about diplomacy, Vice President JD Vance reprimanded him for “try[ing] to litigate” in front of the American media, calling his actions “disrespectful.”

“Do you think that it’s respectful to come into the Oval Office of the United States of America and attack the administration that is trying to prevent the destruction of your country,” Vance asked Zelenskyy.

Sources close to Zelenskyy noted tensions were high prior to the meeting, Fox News Digital previously reported.

Zelenskyy reportedly rejected the mineral security agreement before Friday’s meeting due to the absence of security guarantees protecting Ukraine from another Russian invasion.

Even though the Ukrainian president warned he would need those assurances to sign the deal, sources said the dismissal angered Trump and Vance.

Just minutes after reporters asked their first questions, the heated disagreement unfolded.

Reporters watched in shock as the meeting came to an abrupt halt, and Zelenskyy was rushed out of the White House.

Minutes later, Trump posted to Truth Social, saying, “President Zelenskyy is not ready for Peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations. I don’t want advantage, I want PEACE.”

Zelenskyy subsequently posted to X, thanking America and Trump for their support and allowing the visit.

“Ukraine needs just and lasting peace, and we are working exactly for that,” he wrote in the post.

Markarova was ambassador for roughly a year when Russia invaded Ukraine, thrusting her into the spotlight.

In September, Fox News Digital exclusively reported that House Speaker Mike Johnson wrote a letter to Zelenskyy seeking Markarova’s firing after she allegedly organized a U.S. taxpayer-funded tour of an American manufacturing site for Zelenskyy in Pennsylvania, a key battleground state, ahead of the 2024 presidential election.

Johnson, R-La., said the tour “purposely excluded” Republicans, calling it “election interference.”

“The facility was in a politically contested battleground state, was led by a top political surrogate for Kamala Harris and failed to include a single Republican because — on purpose — no Republicans were invited,” Johnson wrote in the letter.

He said the “shortsighted and intentionally political move” prompted Republicans to “lose trust” in Markarova’s ability to fairly and effectively serve as a diplomat.

Tulsi Gabbard, the new director of national intelligence, thanked President Donald Trump Friday for his “unwavering leadership” after his clash with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a meeting in the Oval Office earlier in the day.

“Thank you @realDonaldTrump for your unwavering leadership in standing up for the interests of the American people, and peace,” Gabbard wrote on X Friday evening, hours after the fiery exchange.

“What you said is absolutely true: Zelensky has been trying to drag the United States into a nuclear war with Russia/WW3 for years now, and no one has.”

Tensions increased during the Oval Office meeting between Trump, Zelenskyy and Vice President JD Vance about a potential peace deal between Russia and Ukraine after Zelenskyy said Russian President Vladimir Putin couldn’t be trusted and had breached other agreements.

ZELENSKYY SPEAKS OUT AFTER PUBLIC SPAT WITH TRUMP, VANCE, SAYS DUSTUP ‘BAD FOR BOTH SIDES’

Trump and Vice President JD Vance then accused Zelenskyy of not being grateful for the support the U.S. has provided over the years and said the Ukrainian leader was in a “bad position” at the negotiating table.

“You’re playing cards,” Trump said. “You’re gambling with the lives of millions of people. You’re gambling with World War III. You’re gambling with World War III. And what you’re doing is very disrespectful to the country, this country.”

After Vance told Zelenskyy Ukraine had manpower and military recruiting problems, Zelenskyy said war means “everybody has problems, even you,” adding the U.S. would feel the war “in the future.”

“Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel,” Trump responded. “We’re trying to solve a problem. Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel.”

Zelenskyy was asked to leave the White House after the exchange, a press conference was canceled and a deal for Ukraine to give the U.S. its rare earth minerals was left unsigned.

Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude for America’s help after the meeting.

“Thank you America, thank you for your support, thank you for this visit,” he wrote on X. “Thank you @POTUS, Congress, and the American people. Ukraine needs just and lasting peace, and we are working exactly for that.”

The Ukrainian president told Fox News’ Bret Baier in an interview after the meeting he believes Ukrainian-U.S. ties can be salvaged.

“Yes, of course, because it’s relations more than two presidents,” he said in the exclusive interview on “Special Report.” “It’s the historical relations, strong relations between our people. And that’s why I always began … to thank your people from our people.

“Of course, thankful to the president and, of course, to Congress,” he said, “But, first of all, to your people … we wanted very much to have all this strong relations and where it counted. We will have it.”

Zelenskyy said he was “not sure we did something bad” when asked about the heated exchange but conceded the dustup was “bad for both sides.”

Trump also received support from Republicans like Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who said Trump was “standing up for America,” while Democrats like Arizona Sen. Trump staffers load boxes taken by FBI in 2022 Mar-a-Lago raid onto Air Force One

President Donald Trump reclaimed items seized during a 2022 raid on his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, which was executed by former special counsel Jack Smith.

Trump staff members were seen loading boxes onto Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews Friday after the Department of Justice (DOJ) returned them to the president’s possession.

“The Department of Justice has just returned the boxes that Deranged Jack Smith made such a big deal about. They are being brought down to Florida and will someday be part of the Trump Presidential Library,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social Friday evening.

“Justice finally won out. I did absolutely nothing wrong. This was merely an attack on a political opponent that, obviously, did not work well. Justice in our Country will now be restored.”

JUDGE UNSEALS FBI FILES IN TRUMP CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS CASE, INCLUDING DETAILED TIMELINE OF MAR-A-LAGO RAID

The FBI agents seized 33 boxes of documents in August 2022 from Mar-a-Lago, spurring a legal battle that Trump has called a “scam.” Former Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Smith to oversee the investigation, resulting in 40 felony counts against Trump, including his alleged violation of the Espionage Act, making false statements to investigators and conspiracy to obstruct justice.

The FBI at the time told a judge there was “probable cause to believe” that classified documents at Mar-a-Lago were being improperly stored and that investigators would find “evidence of obstruction.”

Trump pleaded not guilty to the charges and slammed the case as an “Election Inference Scam” promoted by the Biden administration and “Deranged Jack Smith.”

“The FBI is giving the President his property back that was taken during the unlawful and illegal raids,” White House communications director Steven Cheung said. “We are taking possession of the boxes today and loading them onto Air Force One.”

Trump counselor Alina Habba told reporters during a gaggle Friday the boxes were with the FBI and contained personal items.

For example, Habba said the FBI raided Trump’s son Barron’s closet and wife Melania’s closet and went through drawers, making a mockery of the justice system.

She reiterated that personal items like pictures, newspaper articles and things “completely irrelevant” to lawsuits were removed from the home and are now being returned to Trump.

Returning the items to the president, she explained, brought the issue full circle.

“I personally actually carried some of the boxes with the team to get them back to where they belong, which is where they were unlawfully taken from, and that is Florida,” Habba said. “So, it is truly an honor and full circle to be on this trip.

Republicans want to know how much Biden spent defending employee rights of students

FIRST ON FOX: Republicans are demanding records showing the extent to which the Biden administration used taxpayer money to defend its position that student-athletes are employees of the universities for which they play.

Representatives Tim Walberg, R-Mich., and Rick Allen, R-Ga., made the request in a letter to Marvin Kaplan, the National Labor Relations Board’s (NLRB) newly appointed chairman, and acting General Counsel William Cowen. They demanded a full accounting of the expenditures incurred during the Biden administration’s years-long case against the University of Southern California, the Pac-12 Conference and the NCAA.

President Joe Biden’s NLRB argued the entities intentionally obscured the rights of college athletes by labeling them “student-athletes” and not “employees.”

The request for expenditure reports from Walberg, who chairs the House Committee on Education and Workforce, and Allen, who chairs the House Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor and Pensions, comes as there is a growing appetite on Capitol Hill to enact reforms for the NCAA’s new name, image and likeness (NIL) rules.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL COUNTRY SEEKS KEY TAX EXEMPTION FOR ATHLETES TO ENHANCE RECRUITMENT, BOOST TEAM CONTINUITY

Representatives Tim Walberg, R-Mich., and Rick Allen, R-Ga., want a full accounting of how much the Biden administration spent on defending the labor rights of student-athletes, arguing it is important information as Congress contemplates potential reforms.  (Getty Images)

The rule change allowed student-athletes to profit from their NIL, which was previously prohibited by the NCAA. Walberg and Allen’s letter said the expenditure records will “provide important assistance to Congress in determining whether legislative changes are warranted.”

“The Committee is concerned that the Biden-Harris NLRB spent significant taxpayer resources pursuing a case meant to curry favor with union interests for nearly three years,” the letter states. “The outcome could have upended intercollegiate athletics and stripped numerous scholarship opportunities from American students.”

The NLRB’s general counsel during the Biden administration, Jennifer Abruzzo, issued a September 2021 memo explaining that the National Labor Relations Act, the nation’s primary federal law protecting union organizing, “fully support[s] the conclusion that certain Players at Academic Institutions are statutory employees.” The announcement came just a few months after the NCAA began letting students profit from NIL after public pressure and state court cases.

While the change in how college athletes are treated has been welcomed by many, others have been concerned about the move’s potential implications. Earlier this month, the Trump administration rescinded the Biden administration NLRB’s September 2021 memo insisting college athletes be recognized as employees under federal labor laws.

The Trump administration this month also revoked guidance issued by President Joe Biden on his way out of the White House that required schools to distribute direct NIL payments equally to female and male athletes.

HOW NAME, IMAGE AND LIKENESS LAWS HAVE CHANGED COLLEGE SPORTS

Aaron Withe, an expert in government unionization and a former college athlete, said he fears continued momentum toward viewing college athletes as strictly employees will destroy college sports.

college football player at signing day

“Are unions going to step in between a coach and their athletes for yelling at the players, or because practice went long or because they’re making them run an exceptional amount of lines?” Withe wondered. “If you’re represented by a union, they’re now your bargaining agent. You have no ability to go represent yourself in anything with the university if it is deemed they are your employer. You’ve got no ability to go negotiate with them anymore.”

Withe pointed out that the move could also lead schools to cut sports programs if they are not generating enough revenue, will affect the long-held tradition that meritocracy is the root of athletic competition and increase the financial burden on schools hoping to keep their athletic programs competitive.

“Public institutions, they’re already forking over a cost for the NIL deals. Providing college athletes the same protections as typical employees is just going to increase their tax burden because it’s going to be paying players that ordinarily wouldn’t be getting paid. Schools are going to be forced to pay those guys, so there’s going to be a bigger tax bill associated with it,” Withe said.

FORMER MIAMI BASKETBALL COACH JIM LARRANAGA LEFT ‘EXHAUSTED’ BY NIL’S IMPACT ON COLLEGE SPORTS

“Attracting top-tier talent is going to be the hardest thing,” he added. “Because you’ve got a contract among all of your athletes — let’s say, for football or basketball or whatever — you can’t then go and bring in a superstar, a stud quarterback, because you can’t pay them the same level that you could without the union. … Basically, money would sort of have to go over to the bigger revenue-generating sports to compensate everyone equally.”

The letter from Walberg and Allen added that, under an employee-employer relationship, student-athletes could be forced to start paying federal taxes on any scholarship funds they receive.

Proponents of the move to classify college athletes as employees say it is high time student-athletes begin getting their piece of the financial pie.

“Colleges and universities have profited off student athletes for decades. It’s the government’s job — not its burden — to make sure student athletes’ rights are respected and they get their fair share,” Karla Walter, senior fellow for Inclusive Economy at the Center for American Progress, told Fox News Digital.

“The Senate and House labor committees should be more worried about the fact that the Trump administration has effectively shuttered the agency charged with enforcing most Americans’ labor rights.”

EX-NFL COACH JON GRUDEN RIPS STATE OF COLLEGE SPORTS

Walter added that unionization is viewed favorably among those who don’t have the option to be in one.

“Half of non-union workers say they would join a union if they could, but unionization rates hover around 6% in the private sector,” she said.

“Student-athletes generate tens of millions of dollars for their universities,” said Andrew Stettner, director of economy and jobs at The Century Foundation. “Just like anyone else whose labor enriches a broader entity, they have a right under the National Labor Relations Act to collectively bargain for things like revenue sharing, workplace conditions and protections from injury,”

Last year, the GOP-controlled Committee on Education and Workforce passed legislation to prevent college athletes from being considered employees, but it went no further. Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz, a proponent of NIL reform, has signaled plans to reform the system.

There is no current federal legislation on the books regulating the NIL framework. However, numerous states have enacted laws to permit NIL payments for recruiting, with the first coming in 2019, two years before the NCAA bowed to pressure and changed its rules.

“Right now, the current world of college sports is the wild West,” Cruz said during a podcast in November. “Name image and likeness, open transfer portals. We are going to address it.”

US-Ukraine deal falls apart in explosive White House meeting. What comes next?

Russia-Ukraine peace negotiations came to a screeching halt Friday after an Oval Office meeting between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy erupted in anger.

The world is now left wondering where negotiations go from here and whether the two world leaders can repair their relationship enough for the U.S. to broker peace. Some say Europe may need to step up and get involved to help end the hostilities, while others think Zelenskyy either needs to do major damage control or step down.

“It is hard to foresee what happens next,” one European official told Fox News Digital. “The optics of it were simply terrible. … This is another sign for Europe to get its act together and support Ukraine. Mobilize Russia’s foreign assets. Purchase arms for Ukraine. Increase defense spending this year. Move forward with EU membership. There are things Europe can do to help Ukraine build leverage.”

Trump said he did not believe Zelenskyy was “ready” for U.S. involvement in the peace process, and Republicans who once supported aiding Ukraine’s fight against Russia seem to have grown tired of the Ukrainian leader.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., a one-time staunch supporter of Ukraine, said after the meeting that the war-torn nation may need to seek a new leader who can work with Trump.

“The question for me, for the Ukrainian people … I don’t know if Zelensky can ever get you where you want to go with the United States. Either he dramatically changes or you gotta get someone new,” said Graham.

Another former State Department official said Europe needs to have an “emergency meeting” to figure out how to move forward.

“I think we’re gonna have to see an emergency meeting of the Europeans with the United States, and I think there’s gonna have to be a little bit of a cooling down right now between Zelenskyy and the U.S.,” said Joel Rubin, a deputy assistant secretary of state during the Obama administration.

TRUMP SAYS ZELENSKYY CAN ‘COME BACK WHEN HE IS READY FOR PEACE’ AFTER FIERY WHITE HOUSE EXCHANGE

“That Oval meeting was either the bane of Zelenskyy’s political career or the bane of Ukraine,” said former Rep. Mike Garcia, a Republican who served as an informal liaison between Speaker Mike Johnson and rank-and-file House members on Ukraine. “One of those two will cease to exist in the next few months.”

He added that Friday’s spat was a natural result of Zelenskyy operating under a “blank check mentality.”

“The pill that Zelenskyy seems to not have swallowed yet is that he’s not going to get everything that he wants,” Garcia told Fox News Digital. “He was humiliated on the global stage in a time when his people needed him to be a little more gracious and grateful for this stuff that he’s gotten.

Putin frowning

“He needs to come back and say he is very grateful for what he has gotten, say ‘I am alive because of the United States. I’m willing to sit down and negotiate in good faith for a peace agreement that may not yield everything that I want and may not, you know, certainly won’t get us to the borders that we had in 2012-2013 before the Crimea invasion.’”

The White House was taken by surprise at Zelenskyy’s “combativeness” after President Donald Trump accused him of being a “dictator” last week and invited him to the White House to sign a mineral deal this week.

“Offer some words of appreciation for the United States of America and the president who’s trying to save your country, please,” Vance told Zelenskyy.

Trump announced after the meeting that Zelenskyy may return to the Oval Office “when he is ready for peace.”

“We had a very meaningful meeting in the White House today. Much was learned that could never be understood without conversation under such fire and pressure,” Trump wrote.

“It’s amazing what comes out through emotion, and I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for Peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations. I don’t want advantage, I want PEACE. He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for Peace.”

Iowa governor signs bill involving transgender protections

Iowa Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a bill on Friday that removes protections for transgender people in the state’s civil rights code.

While not every state has protections for transgender people, Iowa Democrats added them to the civil rights code in 2007.

Iowa is the first state to remove gender identity protection from its state civil rights code.

The new law follows President Donald Trump’s executive orders only recognizing two sexes, restricting sex change operations and restricting trans people in the military, as well as state efforts to ban trans women from women’s bathrooms and women’s sports.

The bill also defines male and female based on the person’s reproductive organs at birth.

Iowa’s civil rights code will still include protections for race, color, creed, sex, sexual orientation, religion, national origin and disability status.

Reynolds described the bill in a video she uploaded to X on Friday.

“Today I’m signing into law a bill that safeguards the rights of women and girls,” she said. “It’s commonsense to acknowledge the obvious biological differences between men and women. In fact, it’s necessary to secure genuine equal protection for girls. It’s why we have men and women’s bathrooms, but not men and women’s conference rooms. Girls’ and boys’ sports, but not girls’ math, boys’ math.”

She said that “these commonsense protections were at risk because, before I signed this bill, the civil rights code blurred the biological line between the sexes.”

Reynolds acknowledged that it is a “sensitive issue for some, many of whom have heard misinformation about what this bill does. The truth is that it simply brings Iowa in line with the federal civil rights code, as well as most states.”

She added that every Iowan, “without exception, deserves respect and dignity. We are all children of God and no law changes that.”

Trump signaled his approval of the law on Thursday, shortly before it was signed.

PENTAGON SAYS TRANSGENDER TROOPS ARE DISQUALIFIED FROM SERVICE WITHOUT AN EXEMPTION

“Iowa, a beautiful State that I have won BIG every time, has a Bill to remove Radical Gender Ideology from their Laws,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Iowa should follow the lead of my Executive Order, saying there are only two genders, and pass this Bill – AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. Thank you Iowa!”

Critics of the law say it will allow transgender people to be discriminated against in all aspects of life.

Democratic Iowa state Rep. Aime Wichtendahl, who identifies as a transgender woman, said, “The purpose of this bill and the purpose of every anti-trans bill is to further erase us from public life and to stigmatize our existence. The sum total of every anti-trans and anti-LGBTQ bill is to make our existence illegal.”

Protesters also filled the state Capitol’s rotunda on Thursday, holding up signs like “Trans rights are human rights” and shouting, “No hate in our state!”

Keenan Crow, who directs policy and advocacy for the LGBTQ advocacy group One Iowa, told The Associated Press that the group will take any legal action “available,” adding that they’re still trying to understand how the law will be enforced.

All Democrats in the state House and Senate voted against the bill and were joined by five House Republicans.

The law goes into effect July 1.

Off the rails at the White House

Conversations about a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia came to a screeching halt Friday after a tense meeting between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy led to a canceled press conference, a minerals deal off the table and Trump asking the Ukrainian president to leave, a White House official confirmed.

Trump accused Zelenskyy of “disrespecting” the U.S. during their meeting Friday and said the Ukrainian leader was not ready to secure peace for his country.

“I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations,” Trump said in a Truth Social post Friday. “I don’t want advantage, I want PEACE. VP Vance shares special message to ailing Pope Francis

Vice President JD Vance shared that although he was “surprised” by Pope Francis’ criticism on the Trump administration’s immigration policy, he believes the pontiff is “fundamentally a person who cares about the flock of Christians.”

While speaking at the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., on Friday, Vance – a convert to Catholicism – said that although he disagrees with Francis and some Catholic bishops on certain stances, he and his children pray for the pope daily.

Francis, 88, is currently suffering from pneumonia and an infection in both lungs and is being treated in Rome’s Gemelli Hospital.

Earlier this month, Francis issued a major rebuke of the Trump administration’s plans for the mass deportations of migrants, stressing that the forceful removal of people simply for their immigration status deprives them of their inherent dignity and “will end badly.”

Francis wrote a letter to the U.S. bishops, in which he appeared to criticize Vance’s religious argument in defense of the deportation policies.

Despite this, Vance shared a message of unity between Catholics and Christians, saying, “I don’t think it’s good for us as Christians to constantly fight with one another over every single controversy in the church.”

“Sometimes we should let this stuff play out a little bit and try to live our faith as best we can, under the dictates of our faith and under the dictates of our spiritual leaders but not hold them to the standards of social media influencers because they’re not,” he added. “My goal is not to litigate when I’m right and when they’re wrong or vice versa. My goal is to maybe articulate the way that I think about being a Christian in public life when you also have religious leaders in public life who have a spiritual duty to speak on the issues of the day.”

The vice president even led attendees in a prayer for the pope.

“I believe that the pope is fundamentally a person who cares about the flock of Christians under his leadership, and he’s a man who cares about the spiritual direction of the faith,” said Vance. “Every day me and my children have said a prayer for the Holy Father, and we pray for his health, and we pray for his comfort as he deals with what appears to be a pretty serious health crisis.”

He shared a significant memory of his of the pope’s message of courage and hope in the earliest days of the COVID-19 Pandemic, which began just weeks after his daughter’s birth.

VANCE VOWS TRUMP ADMINISTRATION WILL BE ‘BIGGEST DEFENDERS OF RELIGIOUS LIBERTIES,’ CATHOLICS

“I will always remember the Holy Father, whether he makes his way through this illness – and I certainly hope that he does – I will always remember the Holy Father in March of 2020, at a time of incredible stress for really the entire world … the Holy Father standing in an empty Saint Peter’s Square, holding the Eucharist above his head and giving a sermon that I return to consistently, because it was incredibly meaningful to me at the time, [and] it remains meaningful today.”

Concluding, Vance said, “If the Holy Father can hear us, I hope he knows that there are thousands of faithful Catholics in this room and millions of faithful Catholics in this country who are praying for him as he weathers his particular storm.”

GOP senator says Zelenskyy must resign after White House blow up

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., called for Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to resign on Friday after a disastrous Oval Office meeting with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, after which the president asked him to leave.

“He either needs to resign and send somebody over that we can do business with, or he needs to change,” Graham, a longtime advocate for Ukraine and foreign policy hawk, told reporters at the White House.

The South Carolina Republican called the Friday meeting a “complete utter disaster.”

“I have never been more proud of the president. I was very proud of JD Vance standing up for our country,” Graham said.

He slammed the “disrespectful” Oval Office display from Zelenskyy, going as far as saying, “I don’t know if we can ever do business with Zelenskyy again.”

According to the senator, he doesn’t think Americans saw the Ukrainian president as someone they feel comfortable going “into business with,” following the televised dispute.

“The way he handled the meeting, the way he confronted the president was just over the top.”

Graham stressed that the Ukrainian-American relationship is “vitally important.” However, he cast doubt on whether Zelenskyy could ever “do a deal with the United States.”

“After what I saw, I don’t know.”

MLK and RFK files release plan deadline follows Epstein files release fallout

The planned release of the MLK and RFK assassination files has garnered renewed interest amid fallout from the widely panned release of Epstein files by the Department of Justice on Thursday evening.

In accordance with President Donald Trump‘s executive order in January to declassify files on the assassinations of former President John F. Kennedy, his brother Robert F. Kennedy and civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr., the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) and the attorney general were expected to release their proposed plan for the declassification of the JFK files on Feb. 7.

Likewise, in line with the order, the plan to release the RFK and MLK files is expected on March 9.

EPSTEIN FILES: AG PAM BONDI SENDS LETTER TO KASH PATEL ACCUSING FBI OF WITHHOLDING DOCS

The deadline to establish a plan for the release of the MLK and RFK assassination files is on the horizon after the Epstein files release fallout Thursday evening.  (Getty)

The RFK and MLK files’ release plan deadline comes just weeks after the Department of Justice revealed a batch of Jeffrey Epstein files Thursday, with many of the documents already having been released during the federal criminal trial of Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s former lover and convicted accomplice. The lack of new material provoked criticism of the Trump administration’s handling of the Epstein files – and questions about what the RFK and MLK documents could hold.

Gerald Posner, author of “Case Closed,” told Fox News Digital he expects “there will be news in there, but it’s not going to be something that turns upside down our understanding of what really happened with those cases.”

After committing earlier this week to release Epstein-related documents sometime Thursday afternoon, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi sent FBI Director Kash Patel a fiery letter accusing federal investigators in New York of withholding thousands of pages of Epstein documents.

“I repeatedly questioned whether this was the full set of documents responsive to my request and was repeatedly assured by the FBI that we had received the full set of documents,” Bondi wrote. “Late yesterday, I learned from a source that the FBI Field Office in New York was in possession of thousands of pages of documents related to the investigation and indictment of Epstein.”

JEFFREY EPSTEIN CONTACT LIST: AG PAM BONDI RELEASES HIGHLY ANTICIPATED DOJ DOCUMENTS

Bondi said she had previously requested the full Epstein file prior to Patel’s confirmation to head the FBI last week, and had received approximately 200 pages of files – fewer than the number of pages released last year as part of a civil lawsuit connected to Maxwell.

“People’s expectations sort of got too high, based upon the executive order that the president signed,” Posner said on the Epstein file release.

Bondi said the FBI had never disclosed that those files existed and gave the agency a Friday-morning deadline for the documents to be turned over.

“By 8:00 a.m. tomorrow, February 28, the FBI will deliver the full and complete Epstein files to my office, including all records, documents, audio and video recordings, and materials related to Jeffrey Epstein and his clients, regardless of how such information was obtained,” Bondi wrote. “There will be no withholdings or limitations to my or your access.”

Patel posted on X on Thursday evening, saying, “The FBI is entering a new era – one that will be defined by integrity, accountability, and the unwavering pursuit of justice.”

DEADLINE LOOMS FOR RELEASE OF JFK ASSASSINATION FILES

Patel stated, “There will be no cover-ups, no missing documents, and no stone left unturned – and anyone from the prior or current Bureau who undermines this will be swiftly pursued. If there are gaps, we will find them. If records have been hidden, we will uncover them.”

The FBI director also stated that the agency would be bringing “everything we find” to the DOJ to share the information with the American public, “as it should be.”

Trump’s declassification executive order came after he promised to declassify the documents upon entering his second term while on the campaign trail, saying at the time, “When I return to the White House, I will declassify and unseal all JFK assassination-related documents. It’s been 60 years, time for the American people to know the truth.”

Trump had initially promised to release the last batch of documents during his first term, but such efforts ultimately dissipated. Trump then blocked the release of hundreds of records on the assassination, following several CIA and FBI appeals.

White House touts extraditions of cartel figures from Mexico

The Trump administration touted the extraditions of more than two dozen defendants from Mexico after the Department of Justice announced that the U.S. had taken 29 into custody.

“Today, the United States secured custody of 29 defendants from Mexico who are facing charges in districts around the country relating to racketeering, drug-trafficking, murder, illegal use of firearms, money laundering, and other crimes,” the DOJ noted in a Thursday press release.

The announcement came as the president seeks to crack down on drug cartels and secure the nation’s southern border.

“President Trump directed the Department of Justice and the Department of State to make this happen, and Attorney General Bondi and Secretary of State Rubio did a tremendous job in getting this done,” the White House press secretary said in a statement on Friday.

The statement noted that the group “includes one of the most evil cartel bosses in the world, Rafael Caro Quintero, who tortured and murdered DEA Agent Kiki Camerena in 1985.”

“The previous Administration allowed these criminals to run free and commit crimes all over the world. The Trump Administration is declaring these thugs as terrorists, because that is what they are, and demanding justice for the American people,” the statement adds.

After President Donald Trump issued an executive order on the topic in January, the State Department announced the designation of eight groups as foreign terrorist organizations last week.

Notorious entities including MS-13 and Tren de Aragua were among those designated.

“The defendants taken into U.S. custody today include leaders and managers of drug cartels recently designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations and Specially Designated Global Terrorists, such as the Sinaloa Cartel, Cártel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), Cártel del Noreste (formerly Los Zetas), La Nueva Familia Michoacana, and Cártel de Golfo (Gulf Cartel),” the Department of Justice noted in its Thursday press release.

FBI Director Kash Patel, who was just sworn in last week, declared that the federal law enforcement agency and its “partners will scour the ends of the earth to bring terrorists and cartel members to justice,” the release noted.

Trump, Vance and Zelenskyy spar over Russian war in tense exchange: ‘very disrespectful’

President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sparred during their meeting at the White House to end the Russia-Ukraine War, including Trump telling the Ukraine leader that he’s “talked too much.”

Amid Zelenskyy’s visit to the White House, Vance said that a path to securing peace between Russia and Ukraine was through the U.S. engaging in diplomacy, including speaking with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to White House pool notes of the meeting.

“We signed a deal with Putin. He did not keep it, what kind of diplomacy are you talking about?” Zelenskyy told Vance.

“Very disrespectful,” Vance said of Zelenskyy’s comment, while Trump remarked that Ukraine is “not in a good position” and gambling with World War III.

“Have you said thank you once?” Vance asked Zelenskyy, according to the notes.

“You’ve talked too much,” Trump said to Zelenskyy.

Zelenskyy traveled to the U.S. Friday to meet with Trump at the White House after Trump said Thursday that a peace negotiation to end the war between Ukraine and Russia is in its final stages. The Trump administration is also working to ink an agreement with Ukraine that would allow the U.S. access to Ukraine’s minerals in exchange for support the U.S. has offered the nation since war broke out in 2022, as part of the peace deal.

Trump also remarked during his remarks to the media that a trilateral meeting between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the U.S., would be no “love match” and likely difficult.

“They don’t like each other, I can tell you that, it’s not a love match,” Trump told the media when asked how he envisions a trilateral meeting between the U.S.-Russia-Ukraine.

Virginia gov promises ‘full cooperation’ with ICE to deport illegal immigrants

Virginia became the latest in a handful of mostly GOP states that are compelling their law enforcement officers to work with federal authorities to deport illegal immigrants.

Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin issued Executive Order 47 on Tuesday afternoon, mandating that state law enforcement and correctional agencies enter into formal agreements with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), pledging “full cooperation” when it comes to helping them identify and deport undocumented illegal immigrants. The governor cited federal law under the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, which allows state and local law enforcement officials to enter into agreements that “federally deputize” them to perform certain actions in support of federal immigration enforcement.

“Dangerous criminal illegal immigrants should not be let back into our communities to assault, rape and murder,” Youngkin said in an announcement about the new mandate. “They should be sent back where they came from.”

While Virginia is just the latest among a handful of mostly GOP states to compel its law enforcement to work with ICE, the scope of these new cooperation requirements varies slightly from state to state.

Some states, like Tennessee, have implemented compelled cooperation to focus specifically on pursuing criminal undocumented immigrants. Others, like Virginia, are instructing their police to assist with apprehending and deporting any undocumented immigrants living illegally in their state.

Under Youngkin’s new order, Virginia State Police will enter into a “287(g) Task Force Model Memorandum of Understanding” with ICE, creating a “State Police Task Force” to help with identifying and apprehending “criminal illegal immigrants” who pose a risk to the public.

The agreement gives these federally deputized officers special authority to perform immigration enforcement functions under ICE’s supervision that they typically would not otherwise engage in.

In addition to mandating compliance from state law enforcement officials, Youngkin’s Executive Order  tasks the state’s secretary of public safety and homeland security, Terrance Cole, to request “certification” from local and regional jail authorities that they will provide full cooperation with ICE and the newly deputized state task force. This agreement will allow Virginia Department of Corrections facilities to be used for immigration matters, such as processing and detention.

Cole is also required under the new order to contact every director, sheriff or other official in charge of a local or regional jail in Virginia to certify that they will fully cooperate with ICE and the newly deputized Virginia State Police task force supporting them.

“I am a legal immigrant and now a naturalized citizen. Working together, the Governor, Attorney General, and I have made Virginia safer. We supported more funding for law enforcement and tackled violent crimes in our cities. Now, working with President Trump, we can take on the scourge of dangerous and violent illegal immigrants,” said Lt. Governor Winsome Earle-Sears, who is running for governor to succeed Youngkin, who is term-limited.

“We’ve seen too many tragic stories after dangerous criminals in this country illegally were put back on the streets, and this executive order will make sure we send them back to where they came from,” Earle-Sears concluded.

Vance: Trump will be ‘biggest defenders of religious liberty’

Vice President JD Vance promised the Trump administration would advocate for Christians and serve as the “biggest defenders of religious liberties” during Friday’s National Catholic Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C.

“While you’re certainly not always going to agree with everything that we do in President Trump’s administration, I feel very confident in saying that between protecting the rights of pro-life protesters, between ensuring that we have an opportunity to protect the rights of the unborn in the first place, and importantly, protecting the religious liberty of all people, but in particular Catholics,” Vance said.

“I think that we can say that President Trump, though not a Catholic himself, has been an incredibly good president for Catholics in the United States of America,” said Vance, who converted to Catholicism in 2019.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Feb. 6 to stand up the Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias, which seeks to end the “anti-Christian weaponization of government and unlawful conduct targeting Christians,” according to the White House.

Members of Trump’s Cabinet and other key agencies are part of the task force, which will conduct a review of any “anti-Christian” policies, practices or conduct within the federal government.

A White House fact sheet on the executive order claimed the Biden administration engaged in “an egregious pattern” of targeting peaceful Christians, while turning a blind eye to “violent, anti-Christian offenses.” Former President Joe Biden was the second Catholic president in the U.S., after President John F. Kennedy.

Specifically, the fact sheet pointed to pro-life Christians who were “praying and peacefully demonstrating” outside abortion clinics.

In January, Trump pardoned more than 20 people convicted of illegally blocking the entrance of abortion clinics and violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act. The law prohibits anyone from attempting to obstruct or interfere with others receiving reproductive health services.

As a result, Vance said that the Trump administration was headed in the “exact opposite direction” of the Biden administration.

Vance also said that, historically, one of the “biggest impediments” to religious liberty around the world has been the result of mistakes from U.S. foreign policy that have resulted in the “eradication” of Christian communities globally.

As a result, Vance said that peacekeeping efforts from the Trump administration are a policy geared toward “saving lives and carrying out one of Christ’s most important commandments.”

“Perhaps the most important way in which Donald Trump has been a defender of Christian rights all over the world is he has a foreign policy that is oriented toward peace,” said Vance, who received standing ovations before and after his speech. “We have done it already so much in the past 30 days, and I’m proud that we will work for peace all over the world in the remaining four years of President Trump’s term, and I think that’s an important thing.”

Vance’s comments coincide with the Trump administration’s ongoing efforts to end the conflict in Ukraine, following Russia’s invasion in February 2022. On Friday, Trump is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to negotiate terms of a peace deal.

“I think with raised toll prices, raised train fares, now you want to add like tolls on the streets, I think it’s definitely borderline stealing,” one man said in the clip.

“It’s ridiculous, it’s gonna.. it’s destroying the city,” another New York worker said.

“It makes it more expensive for me to come to work,” one man stated.

The Federal Highway Administration Executive Director Gloria Shepherd wrote a letter asking the tolls to end on March 21.

The tolls, although technically a pilot program, have proven to be a money boon, as they netted $37.5 million in January. In addition to the letter from Shepherd, Duffy also scrapped the Biden-era agreement between the department and New York for the program.

Despite the request, New York Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul vowed for “orderly resistance” in response to the FHWA’s request for ending the program in an “orderly manner,” according to ABC News.

“Our position is clear: this is not a lawful order. We have already filed a lawsuit and now it’s up to the courts to decide,” John J. McCarthy, MTA chief of policy and external relations, stated earlier this week about the request.

The tolls are in effect in Manhattan on and south of 60th Street daily.

Why Zelenskyy keeps pushing for Ukraine NATO membership even though Trump says it’s not happening

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy isn’t backing down from seeking NATO membership for Ukraine despite the fact that President Donald Trump has said the Ukrainian leader “could forget about” joining the military alliance.

Still, Zelenskyy is all in on securing NATO membership for his country, and he said Sunday he would step down as president if it meant NATO adopted Ukraine. Zelenskyy reiterated his position Wednesday and told the BBC, “I want to find a NATO path or something similar.”

“If we don’t get security guarantees, we won’t have a ceasefire, nothing will work, nothing,” Zelenskyy said.

Zelenskyy is slated to visit the White House on Friday, and Trump told reporters on Thursday that a peace negotiation to end the war between Ukraine and Russia is in the final stages. Even so, no deal is secured, and Trump hesitated to discuss plans regarding a peacekeeping force in the region until one was signed.

TRUMP SAYS UKRAINE RARE EARTH MINERALS DEAL WILL LEAD TO ‘SUSTAINABLE’ FUTURE BETWEEN US, UKRAINE

Although Trump said on Thursday he believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin will uphold his end of a peace deal, several experts claim Zelenskyy remains adamant about pushing for Ukraine to become a NATO member because it reduces the likelihood that Putin could resume hostilities, and it means that other security guarantees are more likely.

Article 5 of the NATO treaty stipulates that if a member country is attacked, it will be considered an attack against all NATO members and requires other NATO countries to take action, including the use of armed forces.

Peter Rough, a senior fellow and director of the Center on Europe and Eurasia at the Hudson Institute think tank, said that with backing from the West, Ukraine becomes bigger than Russia.

“Putin would have to think twice about restarting a war if he thinks the major Western powers are obligated to defend Ukraine,” Rough said in a Thursday email to Fox News Digital. “Of course, bringing Ukraine into NATO would put American (and European) skin and credibility in the game. That explains Trump’s hesitation, even resistance to such a concept.”

Rough said Zelenskyy’s “fallback position” if NATO membership isn’t possible is to secure support from Western troops to promote a ceasefire. For example, U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on Feb. 16 that the U.K. was ready to send troops to Ukraine if necessary to ensure peace between Ukraine and Russia.

“If all else fails, then, Zelenskyy may have to settle for continued financing and military assistance,” Rough said. “But he isn’t going to negotiate with himself, which is why he remains adamant about security guarantees in public.”

John Hardie, the deputy director of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies’ Russia program, said another conflict between Russia and Ukraine is likely and that the “hard truth” is the negotiations from the Trump administration won’t “resolve the fundamental question at stake in this war.”

“Putin’s goal isn’t just to grab some more territory in eastern Ukraine,” Hardie said in an email to Fox News Digital. “He remains determined to make Ukraine itself into a vassal state and to rewrite the broader security order in Europe.”

As a result, Hardie said NATO membership for Ukraine provides the best option for preserving Ukraine’s safety against Russian aggression. Although that’s a no from Trump, Hardie said the U.S. does need to articulate just how much support it can offer for European troops who will provide a post-war security presence in the region.

For example, Starmer told reporters on Feb. 17 that any reassurance force would require a “U.S. backstop because a U.S. security guarantee is the only way to effectively deter Russia from attacking Ukraine again.”

“The Trump administration needs to provide Europe with clarity on what U.S. contribution it can expect,” Hardie said. “Ukraine will also need a continued supply of military aid from the West, including the United States, though there are ways to reduce the burden on American taxpayers, such as the use of frozen Russian assets.”

TRUMP AND ZELENSKYY WAR OF WORDS HEATS UP EVEN AS US LOOKS TO WIND DOWN WAR IN UKRAINE

Zelenskyy told reporters Wednesday he is prepared to broach “very important questions” with Trump during their Friday visit, including whether the U.S. will continue to provide aid to Ukraine. Congress has appropriated $175 billion since 2022 for aid to Ukraine, according to the Council on Foreign Relations.

To recoup some of these costs, Trump said Zelenskyy is expected to sign a rare-earth minerals deal that will allow the U.S. and Ukraine to partner on developing resources like oil and gas.

The agreement will permit the U.S. access to Ukraine’s minerals and will also help Ukraine rebuild from the war, Trump said.

“We’re going to be signing really a very important agreement for both sides, because it’s really going to get us into that country,” Trump told reporters Thursday. “We’ll have a lot of people working there and so, in that sense, it’s very good.”

Ex-US defense secretaries condemn Trump’s firing of senior military officials

Five former defense secretaries issued a scathing letter on Thursday assailing President Donald Trump for firing the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and other senior officers.

In an open letter published Thursday, former Defense Secretaries James Mattis, Leon Panetta, Lloyd Austin, Chuck Hagel, and William Perry urged Congress to hold immediate hearings on Trump’s recent firings of Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. CQ Brown and several other senior military leaders.

They said senators should “refuse to confirm” any new DOD nominations in response to the firings.

In the letter, they alleged that Trump’s actions undermined “our all-volunteer force and weaken our national security” and they accused the president of trying to turn the apolitical U.S. military into an instrument of partisan politics and using firings, which extend to the top Army, Navy and Air Force lawyers, to do so.

All defense secretaries but one, James Mattis, served under Democratic administrations.

TRUMP SAYS ‘I CAN’T BELIEVE I SAID THAT’ WHEN ASKED IF HE STILL THINKS ZELENSKYY IS A DICTATOR

Trump announced the firings late on Friday, but his administration has yet to clarify in any detail what caused the unprecedented shakeup, which also included the dismissal of the head of the Navy, Admiral Lisa Franchetti, the first female officer to lead a military service.

Air Force General C.Q. Brown was only the second Black officer to become Joint Chiefs chairman and he was less than halfway through his four-year term when he was let go.

“Mr. Trump’s dismissals raise troubling questions about the administration’s desire to politicize the military,” they wrote. “We, like many Americans – including many troops – are therefore left to conclude that these leaders are being fired for purely partisan reasons.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to the White House for comment on the letter.

The former defense secretaries called on Congress to hold hearings to “assess the national security implications” of Trump’s dismissals. Republicans hold a majority in both chambers.

The letter cautioned that the actions at the Pentagon could deter Americans from choosing a life in the military, should their careers be judged through the lens of partisan politics. It could also have a chilling effect on speaking “truth to power,” they cautioned.

“We write to urge the U.S. Congress to hold Mr. Trump to account for these reckless actions and to exercise fully its Constitutional oversight responsibilities,” they wrote.
