Rep. Schiff warns donors if Biden stays in presidential race, Democrats could ‘lose’ big in November: report

Top House Democrat and fierce former President Trump critic Rep. Adam Schiff has privately told Democrat donors that he thinks that his party could suffer substantial losses in November if President Biden remains at the top of the ticket, according to a report from The New York Times.

Schiff, the former chair of the House Intelligence Committee who is now running for a Senate seat in California, reportedly made the comment Saturday at a fundraiser in East Hampton, New York, just hours before the assassination attempt against former President Trump.

“I think if he is our nominee, I think we lose,” the newspaper quoted Schiff as saying, citing a person with access to a transcription of a recording of the fundraiser. “And we may very, very well lose the Senate and lose our chance to take back the House.”

Schiff, when asked by Fox News about the report, declined to comment.

The New York Times also reported, citing two people with direct knowledge of Schiff’s remarks, that Schiff said Biden and his campaign staff have been generally unwilling to listen to the views of outside pollsters and political experts and that they should do so.

One donor who attended the event told the newspaper that he left feeling dejected and that donors should now focus on supporting downballot candidates under the belief that Biden’s chances of winning are slim.

Biden has faced pressure to drop out of the presidential race following his widely panned June 27 debate performance, but those calls have subsided after Trump was shot this past weekend.

Earlier this month, Schiff admitted publicly to having doubts that Biden could beat Trump in a head-to-head race.

Schiff told NBC News that Biden’s age is the major factor weighing down the presidential race and that he should really consider whether running is the best choice.

“But the performance on the debate stage I think rightfully raised questions among the American people about whether the president has the vigor to defeat Donald Trump,” Schiff said at the time.

Vivek Ramaswamy floated as possible Senate replacement for JD Vance in Ohio

After former President Trump revealed his choice of Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, for his running mate in the November election, speculation quickly began over who might take Vance’s place in the Senate.

Vance was elected to the Senate in 2022 and isn’t up for re-election until 2028. However, if he and Trump win, and he takes the role of vice president, Gov. Mike DeWine, R-Ohio, will be charged with appointing a replacement.

KAMALA HARRIS CONGRATULATES JD VANCE, HOPES ‘THAT THE TWO CAN MEET’ AT VP DEBATE

“Who else wants JD Vance’s Senate seat to be filled by @VivekGRamaswamy?” asked Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, in a post on X.

Vivek Ramaswamy, who ran for the Republican presidential nomination against Trump in the primary race, is a resident of Ohio.

“The only negative is this leaves our side missing one of our best fighters in the Senate. If asked to serve, I would strongly consider the position and would discuss with President Trump which path makes the most sense for our country,” he continued.

However, getting DeWine to appoint Ramaswamy could prove difficult, as he is a more moderate Republican governor to Ramswamy’s “America-First” brand of conservatism.

DeWine’s office did not immediately provide comment to Fox News Digital.

In an interview with Fox News Digital on Monday, Ramaswamy applauded the choice of Vance as Trump’s running mate.

“I think he’s going to attract a lot of people who are hungry for economic mobility in the country, and I think he’s even going to attract a lot of people who aren’t traditional Republicans,” he said.

Immigration hawks reacted with delight after former President Trump announced the selection of Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, as his running mate, pointing to his record of staunch opposition to illegal immigration and his votes in favor of additional border security.

“President Trump was first elected to secure our border and enforce our immigration laws after decades of neglect in Washington — and he delivered on his promises,” RJ Hauman, president of the National Immigration Center for Enforcement, told Fox News Digital. “By choosing a fierce immigration reformer like Senator Vance as his running mate, President Trump has reaffirmed to the American people that our borders must be secured and immigration laws aggressively enforced.”

“The largest deportation effort in American history now has one hell of a co-pilot,” he said.

Trump announced the Vance pick earlier Monday, saying he has fought “so brilliantly” for workers and farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio and Minnesota. On Tuesday, the theme for the convention will be “Make America Safe Once Again,” when border security and illegal immigrant crime are likely to be hot topics, given the ongoing crisis at the southern border and the massive impact it is having on the presidential race.

The Ohio senator has top ratings for his votes and positions on immigration from hawkish groups that call for lower levels of immigration. Heritage Action has given him a 93% rating on the issue.

“With a 93% on the Heritage Action scorecard, Senator JD Vance has proven to be a committed conservative fighter in the Senate. He wants to secure the border, enforce the rule of law, and protect American workers,” Ryan Walker, Executive Vice President at Heritage Action, said. “With his proven record, impressive resume, and unique background, Senator Vance will help President Trump return to the White House and secure our borders once and for all.”

As senator, Vance currently has an “A” grade from NumbersUSA. The group pointed to his co-sponsorship of the Senate version of the House GOP border bill known as H.R. 2, as well as his votes against the recent bipartisan Senate package backed by the Biden administration.

It has also noted his votes for bills to mandate the employment authorization system E-Verify, criminalize visa overstays, limit the use of humanitarian parole, and his efforts to increase the credible fear standard for asylum seekers. Other immigration hawks pointed to bills he has supported to reshape Alternatives to Detention and that would require all illegal immigrants on the non-detained docket to be put on GPS tracking.

“Senator Vance has distinguished himself in his ability to clearly articulate the dysfunction inherent in our legal immigration system, especially the harm caused to American workers through lowered wages and lost jobs, as well as understanding how the high level of immigration leads to higher housing costs,” Numbers USA CEO James Massa said. “Senator Vance understands that immigration policy must no longer be determined by special interests in Washington, D.C., or big business seeking cheap labor at the expense of American workers, but instead designed in the interest of the American people at large.”

U.S. Tech Workers, a group which opposes the H-1B visa program, which critics have said is used by tech companies to replace American workers with cheap foreign labor, noted Vance’s prior criticism of the H-1B program.

“Here’s hoping this unity ticket finally sees H-1B visa reform come to fruition,” the account said.

Mark Krikorian, executive director at the Center for Immigration Studies, said that Vance “has the chance to help the GOP move beyond mere rhetoric and make it a genuinely pro-worker party.”

Speaking to Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Monday evening, Vance highlighted Trump’s promise to launch a mass deportation operation if elected in November.

“We have to deport people, we have to deport people who broke our laws who came in here and I think we start with the violent criminals. President Trump has been very, very effective at communicating on this to the point where now a majority of Americans believe that we need to deport a large number of people who have come here illegally,” he said.

RFK Jr. Interview: Trump and Biden “both ravaged American democracy and the republic”

Fox News Digital recently sat down with independent presidential candidate RFK Jr. at FreedomFest in Las Vegas, for a wide-ranging interview in which he discussed his campaign viability, the COVID pandemic, immigration policy, and castigated both the Trump and Biden administrations on civil liberties and weaponization of the Justice Department.

While polls show Kennedy lagging far behind Trump and Biden, he believes that momentum is with his campaign.

RFK JR. TO GET SECRET SERVICE PROTECTION AFTER FAILED TRUMP ASSASSINATION, MAYORKAS SAYS

“Well, this week we had two national polls come out, the HarrisX poll that had me at 19%, and the Pew poll that had me at 15%, and so we’re watching my numbers grow all the time. I’m now beating President Biden and President Trump among independents, I’m beating them among all Americans under 35. I have better approval ratings and favorability ratings than both of them. I’m doing well with black voters and Hispanic voters, and the one group that I don’t do well with is Baby Boomers, because they’re watching the mainstream networks CNN, ABC, NBC, MSNBC and they’re reading the New York Times and the Washington Post.”

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

Kennedy came to the forefront as a staunch critic of both the Trump and Biden administrations’ approach to the pandemic, and believes the Republican and Democratic establishments are both responsible for an assault on civil liberties.

“The Constitution is a piece of paper, and the only thing that makes it work is if people believe in it, and one of the things that we need to do is to start teaching civics lessons again in American schools. We abandoned that, and I think that’s one of the reasons that our civil rights were taken away from us so easily.”

“Both of them ravaged American democracy and the republic. You know, we saw it during COVID, they shut down, it was an assault on the Constitution by both men, and, you know, we saw all of our property rights suspended, the Fifth Amendment, 3.3 million businesses shut down. We saw free speech censored, and violations of the First Amendment, all the churches closed in this country with no scientific citation, no due process, violation of the First Amendment, the rights of assembly and petition obliterated by social distancing rules…it was both the Biden and the Trump administrations, so I don’t I don’t think either of those presidents could be trusted to safeguard our Constitution.”

CNN FINALIZES RULES FOR FIRST BIDEN VS. TRUMP DEBATE, RFK JR. COULD STILL QUALIFY

Kennedy believes strongly in securing the southern border, and supports a return to some Trump-era policies, arguing that the Biden policies have been ineffective.

“I’m absolutely going to secure the border. I’ve spent a lot of time on the border talking with law enforcement, with Border Patrol, and one of the optimistic things for me is everybody says this can be stopped…we need to complete the 27 missing gaps in the wall…we need to do personnel changes and we need to bring in asylum court judges, and more Border Patrol and we need to do some regulatory changes… including changing the catch and release policy to catch and return policy, which it was during the Trump administration.”

RFK Jr. rips Trump conviction

RFK Jr. rips Trump conviction, warns it will ‘backfire on the Democrats’: ‘Bad for our democracy’ (Fox News)

While a strong supporter of legal migration, he believes that current policies have abandoned border policy to dangerous criminal elements:

“I want wide gates for people who come in legally so that there’s a fast track to citizenship, so that we can get the workers we need in this country right now, but I also will make sure nobody’s coming in illegally. Right now the Sinaloan drug cartel is running US immigration policy and nobody thinks that’s a good idea.”

Kennedy pledges to bring Russia and Ukraine to the negotiating table for a speedy resolution to the conflict:

“I’ll end the Ukraine War immediately, and I will negotiate a peace with Putin. Putin has tried repeatedly to negotiate peace agreements with us. He negotiated a very, very favorable agreement in April of 2022; he signed it, the Zelenskyy government signed it, and the Biden administration made Zelenskyy tear it up.”

He would not elaborate on what territory he might require Ukraine to cede, but argues that the Biden administration has prolonged the conflict:

“I’m not going to tell you what my end point of negotiation…because that’s not what you do, but I will say that we’re in a much worse negotiating position than we were in April of 2022 when the Biden administration destroyed the peace process.”

According to a 2022 study by the Commonwealth Fund, while the United States spends far more than its peers on healthcare, it generally experiences worse outcomes. Kennedy pledges to take on the healthcare bureaucracies and the pharmaceutical industry.

“My solution is to end the chronic disease epidemic and that’s what’s driving our healthcare crisis. We spend $4.3 trillion on healthcare, almost all of that that goes now to chronic disease, and we have the worst health outcomes of any country in the top 79 countries in the world…I know how to do this, I know how to change the mission of NIH so that it’s no longer an incubator for new pharmaceutical products in league with the pharmaceutical industry.”

RFK-Jr

Media figures trashed Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. for saying that President Biden is “much worse” for democracy than former President Donald Trump.  (Fox News)

Kennedy faults both administrations for politically-motived lawfare via the judicial system.

“The weaponization of the Justice Department is the fault of both Democrats and Republicans. You remember in 2016, 2020, President Trump promising that he was going to create a special prosecutor and lock Hillary Clinton up. That sort of gave permission, both sides of the political process began weaponizing government…We are going to make sure the American people know that justice is blind, that justice is neutral, and that mandate has been abandoned by both these administrations.”

Kennedy has long been actively involved in Latin America, spending considerable time in South America. He credits his father and uncle’s policies for appealing to the poor of the region, and believes interventionism is an ineffective strategy to promote American values and deter Communism.

“The people of Latin America have the right to choose their own leaders, and I think a lot of the anti-American attitude in Latin America comes from a history of us interfering in the region. I think we need to be partners with the region the way that my uncle and father did…when they started the Alliance for Progress, they started the USAID to put America on the side of the poor in those countries, to remove the temptation to embrace Communist values…and all of the interventions that we’ve done in Latin America have turned against us…We need to be partners with those governments and those societies rather than bullies.”

President Biden is focused on maintaining his support from Black voters as the once solid foundational bloc of the Democratic Party begins to waver.

Biden will be participating in an interview for BET on Tuesday to pitch himself as the obvious choice for Black voters.

Following the interview, Biden is expected to attend the 115th NAACP National Convention in Las Vegas. He will be delivering remarks during the event.

Finally, Biden will meet with Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Chairman Rep. Steven Horsford for an economic summit, where he will speak to Black voters and meet with Black members of congress to discuss his vision for a second term.

Members of the CBC who are expected to meet with Biden include Reps. Jim Clyburn, Jonathan Jackson, Yvette Clarke, Robin Kelly, Gabe Amo, Bennie Thompson, Bobby Scott, Troy Carter and Nikema Williams.

The extensive tour focusing on the Black community comes at the same time former President Trump is courting solidly blue areas of the country, seeking to capitalize on Biden’s perceived weakness.

Trump’s decision to target minority voters in places like New York, where Republicans have not carried the state in decades, reflects the Trump campaign’s belief that Biden is showing weakness with key Democratic constituencies.

Despite holding a solid majority of Black voters, the Biden campaign has seen a notable drop in enthusiasm in key swing states since 2020.

“Our campaign believes that Black voters deserve to hear from Team Biden-Harris, and they deserve to have their vote earned, not assumed,” the Biden campaign previously said about Black voter engagement. “That’s exactly what we are doing through historic investments in Black media and outreach, creative engagement efforts, culturally competent content and innovative organizing initiatives. No campaign has valued Black voters like we have, including through investing earlier and with more money than ever before talking to Black voters.”

A USA Today/Suffolk University poll released last month found that support for Biden among Black voters has dropped roughly 20 percentage points in both Michigan and Pennsylvania since the last election.

In Michigan, the poll found Trump has 15% of Black voters, compared to Biden at 54% of the support from Black voters. Trump received just 9% of the Black vote in Michigan in the 2020 election.

Many pollsters expect Trump to experience a bump in support across all demographics following the assassination attempt that nearly took his life last weekend.

Vice President Kamala Harris called Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, whom former President Trump chose as his running mate Monday, and congratulated him after the announcement.

“Vice President Harris reached out to Senator Vance and left a message to congratulate him on his selection, welcome him to the race and express her hope that the two can meet in the vice presidential debate proposed by CBS News,” a Biden campaign official told Fox News.

After months of teasing his pick, Trump revealed Vance as his running mate selection in a Truth Social post on the opening afternoon of the Republican National Convention.

JD Vance might be the worst case scenario for vice president Kamala Harris ahead of the 2024 election.

In May, Trump accepted a vice presidential debate on behalf of his future running mate to be hosted on Fox News. However, the Biden campaign has only been willing to do the debate on CBS.

While no vice presidential debate has been confirmed yet, in the case that Vance and Harris do face off, it may be the vice president’s worst-case scenario. President Biden and former President Trump agreed to two presidential debates. The first was hosted by CNN on June 27 and the second will be hosted by ABC on Sept. 10.

“I think JD Vance would pose the greatest threat [to] Kamala Harris, in some respects. I mean he’s an incredible debater,” Ashley Etienne, Harris’ former communications director, previously told CNN

“I think he has this quality that makes him seem palpable to that one to two percent that actually might vote or that is undecided, that will actually pay attention to the debates because most people don’t pay attention to the debates,” she explained.

She described the 39-year-old senator as both “super smart” and “quick-witted,” which she noted could be a problem for Harris.

This could pose a particular issue for the vice president, who has become known for “word salads” or rambling monologues that often find their way onto social media. One such clip going viral on TikTok and other social media platforms features Harris asking, “You think you just fell out of a coconut tree?”

After laughing, she continues to say, “You exist in the context of all in which you live and what came before you.”

Harris has even been the subject of a Saturday Night Live skit, which made fun of the habit. “It’s a process I call speaking without thinking,” joked Daily Show correspondent Desi Lydic, playing the role of the vice president’s “holistic thought adviser, Dahlia Rose Hibiscus.”

“It’s not about the destination of the thought, it’s about the journey and how many words you use to describe the journey,” she added.

One author, Elaina Plott Calabro, who profiled Harris for months at the Atlantic remarked, “She’s a very poor communicator when the parameters are quite wide.”

In a setting such as a debate, where communication is one of the most important elements, its unclear whether Harris would be able to stack up.

Democrats spotlight Biden alter-ego ‘Dark Brandon’ as they launch billboards near GOP convention

FIRST ON FOX – As GOP delegates, officials, activists, and supporters head to day two of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Democrats have a message for them.

The day after former President Trump was formally nominated as the GOP’s 2024 standard-bearer, the Democratic National Committee, in a messaging push shared first with Fox News, is touting what they highlight as President Biden’s “winning record.”

The DNC on Tuesday is launching eight new billboards in Milwaukee, urging Wisconsinites to “Vote Joe” and showcasing that in Biden’s three and a half years in the White House, he has “created more than 15 million new good paying jobs, lowered costs on health care and prescription drugs, and worked to strengthen our democracy, not tear it down.”

The Democratic National Committee on Tuesday is launching new billboards in Milwaukee that spotlight President Biden’s policy successes.

The DNC went up with billboards in Milwaukee earlier in July ahead of the start of the GOP convention that highlighted what they say were Trump’s failures in Wisconsin – a key battleground state – during his tenure in the White House.

However, those billboards were dropped, along with all TV ads across the country that were being run by the Biden campaign, after Saturday’s attempted assassination attempt on the former president at a Trump rally in western Pennsylvania.

Deputy communications director Abhi Rahman said that “the DNC is highlighting Joe Biden’s winning platform and policies that are delivering for the American people. We’re making sure voters know it by bringing Dark Brandon to Milwaukee to outline a bold second term agenda that sharply contrasts with what Wisconsinites are seeing on the RNC stage this week – restoring Roe, lowering costs, protecting Social Security, and safeguarding our democracy.”

The GOP vice presidential nominee is only a freshman senator, but has years of experience outside the political arena that is likely to boost the Republican ticket in November.

On Monday, former President Donald Trump tapped JD Vance of Ohio to be his running mate. Vance is the New York Times bestselling author of Hillbilly Elegy, a Yale Law School graduate, former Marine, and recently elected to the U.S. Senate in 2022.

“I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social.

“J.D. has had a very successful business career in Technology and Finance,” the former president added.

But before building his political career, Vance was a successful venture capitalist. Yahoo Finance reported that Vance’s Silicon Valley contacts first helped him bring investor dollars to his home state of Ohio, and then helped fund his campaign for the Senate and have already helped contribute to the Trump campaign.

After graduating from Yale Law school in 2013, Vance moved to San Francisco, where he worked at Mithril Capital, a firm co-founded by former PayPal CEO and Republican donor Peter Thiel, the outlet reported.

Vance also spent time in his early career near the nation’s capital working for former AOL CEO Steve Case’s venture capital firm, Revolution LLC. There he spearheaded a project to expand capital opportunities to small towns like Middletown, Ohio — where Vance was born, Yahoo notes.

“J.D. Vance has become a leading voice for people across the country who feel left behind, so he is the perfect person to help us expand Rise Of The Rest,” Case said in 2017, according to the outlet.

In 2020 Vance launched his own Cincinnati-based fund, reportedly with the backing of, Marc Andreessen, Eric Schmidt, and Scott Dorsey. Yahoo reports that firm was founded to help redirect big East Coast dollars into investment opportunities in states like Ohio.

Earlier this year, Vance helped to organize a fundraiser for Trump’s campaign with billionaire investor David Sacks. That fundraiser, hosted at Sacks’ home, marked Trump’s first visit to San Francisco in years and resulted in a $12 million boost to Trump’s re-election fund.

Former Trump primary rival Haley in Republican convention spotlight on day after JD Vance named running mate

MILWAUKEE- One day after Donald Trump was formally nominated as the GOP’s 2024 presidential nominee and named Sen. JD Vance of Ohio as his running mate, Trump’s final rival during the presidential primaries takes center stage at the Republican National Convention.

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who served as U.N. ambassador in the Trump administration, will speak at the convention on Tuesday, multiple sources familiar with the decision confirmed to Fox News over the weekend.

As of last week, Haley wasn’t invited to speak at the convention and wasn’t planning on attending the four-day confab, which is being held in swing state, Wisconsin’s largest city.

But following Saturday’s attempted assassination attempt on Trump at a rally in western Pennsylvania, where the former president was visibly bloodied after a bullet grazed his ear and where one spectator was killed and two critically injured, the GOP quickly unified around their standard-bearer. And as part of that push for unity, Haley was invited to speak at the convention.

Haley launched her presidential campaign in February last year, becoming the first major candidate to challenge Trump, who had announced his candidacy three months earlier. She was the final rival to Trump, battling the former president in a contentious two-candidate showdown from the New Hampshire primary in late January through Super Tuesday in early March.

Haley announced that she was suspending her White House campaign on March 6, the day after Trump swept 14 of 15 GOP nominating contests on Super Tuesday.

As she departed the race, Haley made it clear that she intended to keep speaking out. And Haley continued to grab up to 20% of the vote in Republican presidential primaries in the months after she dropped out.

In late May, in her first public comments since announcing the end of her 2024 campaign, Haley said she would vote for Trump.

Haley won a total of 97 delegates during the Republican presidential primaries. And last week, Haley released all of her delegates and urged them to support Trump.

Asked last week in an interview with Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade about Haley, Trump said “there was a lot of bad blood there, and she stayed too long.”

Pointing to another former nomination rival, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who left the race three days ahead of the New Hampshire primary, Trump said, “DeSantis left right after Iowa. She should have left right after Iowa.”

Also in the spotlight on the second night of the convention, a handful of high-profile Republican Senate candidates will address GOP delegates from the podium of Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum.

Thanks in part to a very favorable Senate electoral map, the GOP aims to win back the majority in the chamber that it lost in the 2020 election cycle.

Tuesday’s session follows Monday’s blockbuster developments.

Just ahead of his formal nomination during the convention’s presidential roll call, Trump announced his much anticipated choice for running mate.

With an eye toward the future of a Republican Party dominated by Trump and his legions of MAGA supporters, the former president added the 39-year-old Vance to the party’s national ticket.

Trump will now share the ticket with one of his top supporters in the Senate and a one-time Trump critic who has transformed into a leading America First disciple.

Vance, a former venture capitalist and the author of the bestselling memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy,” before running for elective office, was one of a handful of Republicans considered top running mate contenders. That group also included North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida.

As Fox News reported, Rubio and Burgum received phone calls a couple of hours ahead of Trump’s announcement that they would not be named as the running mate.

And a well-placed source in Vance’s political orbit told Fox News that the senator wasn’t informed he was the running mate until 20 minutes before Trump unveiled his choice in a social media post on the Truth Social platform.

HOWARD KURTZ: Former Never Trumper JD Vance is VP pick to shape MAGA’s future

My Spidey sense told me all along that Donald Trump wanted to pick JD Vance as his running mate.

He saw the freshman senator as a populist conservative in his own mold, an eloquent voice who could help cement Trumpism as the future of the Republican Party. Plus, he had a powerful advocate in Donald Trump, Jr.

But then, after the horrible assassination attempt on Trump last weekend, I had a moment of doubt.

The former president had started saying that he needed someone who could help him get elected. Given the heightened awareness of someone who’s been shot that his choice might have to immediately take over as president, I thought Trump might reconsider and tap the far better known and more experienced Marco Rubio. Nope.

TRUMP SURVIVES SHOOTING, BUT THE POLITICALLY CHARGED BLAME GAME NEVER FADES

Donald Trump and JD Vance

Vance has several things going for him. He served in Iraq, giving him a military credential that his rivals lacked. And while he is from Ohio, he speaks Midwestern.

If that helps Trump win neighboring Pennsylvania, the election is over. President Biden’s only path to re-election – which his own party’s leaders privately believe is exceedingly narrow – is to win Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Vance, after writing “Hillbilly Elegy,” said some terrible things about Trump in 2016, including likening him to Hitler. So did Rubio, and the former president has long since mended fences with both men.

The downside for Vance is that most ordinary voters have never heard of him, and his relative inexperience, having just been elected to public office in 2022, is open to question.

Vance has owned his past torching of Trump and said he was happy to be wrong once he met the former president. He also modified his positions, especially on abortion, to fall in the line with the MAGA agenda.

The Biden campaign immediately hit Vance by saying he “will do what Mike Pence wouldn’t on January 6: bend over backwards to enable Trump and his extreme MAGA agenda, even if it means breaking the law and no matter the harm to the American people.”

GOP PUNCHES A MAGA TICKET, WHICH DEMOCRATS ARE ALREADY SMEARING AS ‘EXTREME’

In his 2022 campaign, Vance said he would vote to set the national abortion ban at 15 weeks, but he also believes in certain exceptions. Trump is against a national ban, sticking to the Supreme Court language leaving it up to the states.

Trump has been sending signals while discussing the merits of his running mate. He said North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, a wealthy tech investor whose company he enjoys, was problematic because he signed very strict abortion restrictions in his state. Also, Burgum is largely unknown and North Dakota has three electoral votes.

When discussing Rubio, who spoke at a recent rally with Trump, the former president said the constitutional bar against two running mates from the same state could easily be fixed – but was still a complication that might be better avoided.

JD VANCE’S RESPONSE TO THE EAST PALESTINE DERAILMENT WAS FIRST MEMORABLE THING THE OHIO SENATOR DID

The sequence of yesterday’s announcement was odd. Both Rubio and Burgum, presumably with Trump’s permission, said they had gotten calls that they were out of the running, which left Vance by the process of elimination.

Perhaps Trump realized this because he confirmed Vance well before waiting for the 4:30 ET time and Vance was told he was the guy just 20 minutes before Trump went public.

For political junkies, Vance is now the instant frontrunner for 2028.

And I’ve learned once again to trust my Spidey sense.

Biden reveals what he said to Trump on phone call after assassination attempt

President Biden revealed that his phone call with former President Donald Trump was “very cordial” after the assassination attempt on Saturday.

“I told him how concerned I was and wanted to make sure I knew how he was actually doing,” Biden told NBC’s Lester Holt during an interview on Monday night. “He sounded good. He said he was fine, and he thanked me for calling.”

“I told him he was literally in the prayers of Jill and me, and his whole family was weathering this,” Biden added.

Holt’s wide-ranging interview touched on a number of topics about Biden’s troubled run for president in November and the way that the assassination attempt on Trump at his Pennsylvania rally changed the election.

BIDEN DEFIANT ABOUT PUSH TO OUST HIM FROM TICKET, REVEALS THOUGHTS ON TRUMP’S VP PICK

But Holt first focused on Biden’s own actions following the news of what had happened: Biden was in Delaware on a planned vacation when the attack happened, and he immediately canceled his plans and returned to the White House to address the nation. He announced within hours that he had spoken with Trump on the phone, which Trump praised his rival for reaching out to him.

“[My] first reaction was, oh my God, this is, oh, there’s so much violence now,” Biden told Holt. “I mean, the whole notion that there is this – there’s not place at all for violence in politics in America. None. Zero.”

“We’ve reached the point where it’s become too commonplace, not assassinations, but to talk about, for example, you know, the Jan. 6 attack on the capitol,” Biden continued. “I got in this race early on in 2020 – for the 2020 race. I wasn’t going to run again because I had lost my son. I didn’t feel … and I watched what happened in Charlottesville, Virginia.”

“It was folks coming out of the woods with torches, carrying swastikas, singing the same Nazi bile, accompanied by the Klan,” he added. “A young woman was killed, and I was a bystander, and the president – then president – was asked, what do you think? He said, ‘there are very fine people on both sides.’”

“No excuse,” Biden reiterated. “Zero.”

Holt reminded Biden that during a call with Democrats he said that they needed to put Trump “in the bull’s-eye”. Biden immediately clarified that he meant that the party must focus on Trump’s issues and shortcomings, and he regretted using the term, saying “it was a mistake to use” that language.

Biden insists Trump ‘dividing the country’ amid calls for unity and lowering ‘temperature’ in politics

President Biden continued to argue that Donald Trump is a danger to democracy just one day after calling for Americans to “lower the temperature in our politics” following the assassination attempt on Trump.

“If you notice, what do I talk about with him?” Biden asked NBC’s Lester Holt during a sit-down interview at the White House. “A policy issue where he’s dividing the country, a policy issues that relate to democracy.”

Trump was hit as multiple shots were fired toward the stage from an elevated position near the outdoor venue where he was holding a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday.

Biden speaking on Sunday night had called for Americans to “lower the temperature in our politics” and “remember, while we may disagree, we are not enemies: We’re neighbors, we’re friends, coworkers, citizens, and, most importantly, we are fellow Americans. We must stand together.”

But he continued to bring up what he considered some of Trump’s more inflammatory comments and remarked on Trump’s response to the attack on Paul Pelosi in 2022, which he continued to reference in his rallies throughout the past year.

Holt called out the president on his answers, noting that Biden didn’t sound like he wasn’t “turning down the heat,” but Biden insisted “I’m turning it down.”

Biden went on to clarify that what he meant was, “We have to stop the whole notion that there are certain things that are contrary to our democracy that we’re for.”

“The idea of saying that, you know, I didn’t win the election when every court in the land, every court in the land – I don’t know – 20 appeals, including this conservative Supreme Court said, we won,” Biden said, referring to the various challenges to his 2020 win over Trump.

“The idea of having a loyalty pledge from all the folks who are in a Republican MAGA – not all Republicans, the MAGA Republicans – saying that, no, we lost the election, inflaming the people” Biden added before trailing off.

Holt pressed Biden on what he could do to contribute to help the country find some unity, but Biden continued to talk about what he viewed as the broadly negative impact Trump has had on the country.

“I mean, that’s the kind of stuff that is just inflammatory and that kind of viciousness – it’s a very different thing to say, look, I really disagree with Trump the way he takes care of taxes, the way he has – wants a $5 trillion tax cut for people who make him a lot of money the next time around,” Biden continued. “He doesn’t focus on working class people.”

Trump makes emotional return after surviving assassination attempt

Former President Donald Trump made an emotional return in front of the public just two days after an attempt on his life at a rally in Pennsylvania.

Trump made his first public appearance since surviving an assassination attempt over the weekend at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, first appearing on the big screen walking down the tunnel to take his seat at the event.

Audience members let out loud cheers as Trump, who sported a bandage on the injured ear that was grazed by a bullet Saturday, made his way to his seat.

The former president finally entered the arena to Lee Greenwood’s famous song, “God Bless the USA,” receiving a thunderous ovation from those in attendance.

Trump then took his seat to listen to remarks made by various “everyday Americans,” at times appearing emotional as supporters of the former president outlined why Americans should send him back to the White House in 2025.

Despite the near fatal shooting Saturday, Trump had insisted that the convention go on as scheduled, arriving in Milwaukee Sunday night and making his first public appearance just over two days after the attempt on his life.

MILWAUKEE— The Trump campaign is pushing back after President Biden immediately took to social media to blast Trump’s newly chosen candidate for Vice President, Ohio Sen. JD Vance.

Shortly after Vance was announced as Trump’s candidate, the Biden campaign posted on X along with a fundraising link, “Here’s the deal about J.D. Vance. He talks a big game about working people. But now, he and Trump want to raise taxes on middle-class families while pushing more tax cuts for the rich.”

Trump 2024 Deputy Communications Director Caroline Sunshine took issue with that attack in an interview with Fox News Digital on Tuesday.

“I think that response, given the events that have transpired in this country where President Trump had an assassination attempt on his life, for the sitting U.S. president to be calling for anything other than unity, but instead using this opportunity to attack President Trump’s new vice presidential nominee, go after him on policy, it seems really out of touch, really in poor taste,” Sunshine said.

Sunshine continued, “It’s very clear that Joe Biden is not the person who can unify this country, as evidenced by that statement.”

Democrats wasted no time going after Vance, with many labeling the Ohio Republican as an “extremist.”

“Trump has selected far-right MAGA extremist JD Vance as his running mate. Vance is a 2020 election denier, supports a national abortion ban, and voted against IVF access,” Biden-Harris HQ, the Democrat’s official 2024 campaign account, posted on X after the announcement.

Conservatives on social media, including Trump adviser Stephen Miller, criticized Biden for the way the campaign is going after Vance.

“The staffers at Biden HQ are continuing to use wildly inflammatory rhetoric less than 2 days since an assassin nearly killed President Trump,” Miller wrote. “Will no one succeed in getting them to tamp down their rhetoric?

Biden, in his address to the nation on Sunday, said, “Let’s remember here in America, our unity is the most elusive of all goals right now,” Biden said in an address to the nation on Sunday. “Nothing is more important for us now than standing together. We can do this.”

The Biden campaign pointed Fox News Digital to a comment on a press call Monday from spokesperson TJ Ducklo: “President Biden, Vice President Harris have never shied away from laying bare the stakes of this election. And that, in our view, is not at odds with the effort that both are leading to sort of restore civility to our politics, and to unite this country.”

Tim Scott delivers rousing RNC speech following Trump assassination attempt: ‘Devil came to Pennsylvania’

MILWAUKEE — South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott delivered a rousing speech on the opening night of the Republican National Convention, focusing his attention on how God saved former President Trump during the assassination attempt on Saturday.

“Our God still saves. He still delivers, and he still sets free. Because on Saturday, the devil came to Pennsylvania holding a rifle,” Scott said. “But an American lion got back up on his feet, and he roared.”

Trump came within inches of his life on Saturday during a rally where a shooter opened fire at the 45th president. While addressing the crowd in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday evening, before he was ushered out, Trump appeared to yell “Fight!” while giving a fist pump to the crowd to indicate he was OK.

Trump was seen abruptly grabbing his right ear before ducking and hitting the floor onstage. Secret Service personnel quickly surrounded Trump before they escorted him off the stage, his right ear covered in blood. The assassination attempt claimed the life of one rallygoer, identified as 50-year-old Corey Comperatore, a retired volunteer fire chief who died protecting his family.

“You see, America, this is a difficult time for our nation. Inflation is crushing families, illegal immigration is crushing American workers, failing schools and victimhood culture are crushing our poorest kids. Biden admits ‘bull’s-eye’ comment about Trump was a ‘mistake’ after assassination attempt

President Biden admitted it was a mistake to talk about putting Donald Trump “in a bull’s-eye” several days before the assassination attempt on the former president.

“It was a mistake to use the word … I meant focus on him: Focus on what he’s doing, focus on one on his policies, focus on the number of lies he told,” Biden told NBC’s Lester Holt during a sit-down interview at the White House set to air Monday evening.

“I mean, there’s a whole range of things that, look, I’m not the guy that said I want to be a dictator on day one,” Biden argued. “I’m not the guy that refused to accept the outcome of the election.”

“You can’t only love your country when you win, and so the focus was on what he’s saying and I mean the idea,” Biden added, noting he also didn’t say “crosshairs.”

Trump was hit as multiple shots were fired toward the stage from an elevated position near the outdoor venue where he was holding a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday.

The bullet pierced the upper part of his right ear before the former president was rushed from the stage by Secret Service agents. Trump told the Post that had he not turned his head slightly to the right to read a chart on illegal immigration, the bullet that grazed him would have been fatal.

Biden speaking on Sunday night had called for Americans to “lower the temperature in our politics” and “remember, while we may disagree, we are not enemies: We’re neighbors, we’re friends, coworkers, citizens, and, most importantly, we are fellow Americans. We must stand together.”

But he struck a more defiant tone during his Monday interview, recalling some of Trump’s more strident remarks and insisting that Trump is engaging in rhetoric that could “incite somebody.”

“When a president says things like he says, do you just not say anything because it may incite somebody?” Biden said.

“Look, I’ve – I have not engaged in that rhetoric,” he insisted. “Now, my opponent is engaged in that rhetoric: He talks about it’d be a bloodbath if he loses, talking about how he’s forgiven – actually, I guess, suspend the sentences of all those who were arrested and sentenced to go to jail because of what happened in the Capitol.”

Biden also remained defiant about his position as the Democrat’s candidate, as his party continues trying to convince him to step down and let another candidate face Trump in November, citing concerns about his age and fitness to continue with a second term after a disastrous debate performance last month.

“14 million people voted for me to be the nominee of the Democratic Party, okay?” Biden said. “I listen to them.”

I was in a car returning to Washington from Richmond, Va., from a funeral when I learned about the attempted assassination of former President Trump.

I was in a car heading to a wedding on Long Island when I learned about the attempted assassination of former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., in 2012.

I was on the elliptical machine at a gym in Alexandria, Va., when I learned about the attempted assassination of House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., at a Congressional baseball practice in 2017.

ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT ON TRUMP AT PENNSYLVANIA RALLY LEAVES 2 HURT, 2 DEAD, INCLUDING SHOOTER

I was at home after school in the sixth grade when I learned about the attempted assassination of President Reagan in 1981.

I didn’t realize after the Reagan shooting that reporting on these incidents would become a normal part of my job. Perhaps that’s why I’ve dug deep into the recesses of my memory to recall nuggets of information from these episodes. In fact, they help me put what I report on now into context.

Back in 1981, I was in my Dad’s maroon Pacer as we drove to Hamilton, Ohio for my weekly trumpet lesson. We listened to the news coverage on the radio as legendary anchor John Chancellor of NBC presented to the planet that “John Hinckley Jr.” was the suspected gunman.

For some reason, one detail stands out. I recall Chancellor saying that Hinckley had worked as a radio disc jockey in Colorado.

The whole thing sounded chaotic. Coverage of attempted political assassinations tend to be that way. I remember some of the same chaos on the radio when my Dad picked me up after school that same fall. I was then in the 7th grade. A team of soldiers had just assassinated Egyptian President Anwar Sadat.

No one talked about the Sadat killing at school the next day. But everyone at school was abuzz about the Reagan shooting.

A friend at school also watched the news and remarked the next day how one newsman nearly lost his composure when he learned that Reagan was actually shot. Not just shot at.

As I said, assassinations and assassination attempts are chaos. So you can understand the bedlam enveloping Frank Reynolds – then the anchor of ABC’s World News Tonight – as he covered the Reagan shooting from the news desk.

It’s easy to review major, breaking news events and see what was accurate in hindsight. But such scenes are pure furor in real time.

Reagan assassination attempt

Reynolds even reported at one point that “the president was not hit.”

But the first draft of history is often wrong. That’s not the fault of the journalists. You just be as careful as you can with the information you know at the moment.

Reynolds was navigating ABC’s live coverage of the attempted assassination of Reagan alongside former ABC White House Correspondent Sam Donaldson. Someone handed them a yellow slip of paper.

TRUMP ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT STIRS MEMORIES OF SIMILAR ATTACK ON REAGAN

Reynolds and Donaldson studied the sheet as though they were decrypting a foreign code and simultaneously solve an algebra problem.

“He was wounded!?!?!” exploded an incredulous Reynolds and Donaldson, almost in unison.

Donaldson kept his eyes trained on the page and pressed his hand to his lip. Meantime, Reynolds raised his right palm to his forehead.

Ronald Reagan assassination

“My God!” said Reynolds.

In seeming disbelief, Reynolds then turned to someone off camera, to confirm that what he just uttered on the air to millions was accurate.

“The president was hit?” asked Reynolds tersely.

A muted voice off-camera says something about “stable condition.”

Reynolds was now volcanic with anger, but trying to keep it together.

He turned to his right, and glared off-stage, stunned at how the story just shifted geometrically in a few seconds.

PRESIDENT BIDEN DELIVERS REMARKS DAY AFTER ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT ON FORMER PRESIDENT TRUMP

One can only speculate what spun through Reynolds’ head at that moment. Was this an unsuccessful assassination attempt like Squeaky Fromme pointing a gun at President Ford in a San Francisco park in 1975? Or was this going to be JFK at Dealey Plaza in Dallas?

“All this information!” Reynolds snarled, double-clutching the yellow notebook paper.

Reynolds strangled the sheet with such force that you hear it crinkle over the air.

For a nanosecond, Reynolds looks like he wants to punch someone out. He’s been reporting to a nationwide audience that the president wasn’t shot. Now that’s wrong. In fact, he may be wrong on one of the biggest stories of all-time: the potential assassination of a president.

Donaldson continued to stare at the desk, trying to grasp the gravity of the situation.

And then, like throwing a switch, Reynolds regained his composure. His voice lowered. The edge receded. His dulcet, anchorman baritone returns. Reynolds then delivered the information in a smooth cadence.

TRUMP SURVIVES SHOOTING, BUT THE POLITICALLY CHARGED BLAME GAME NEVER FADES

However, a little later, someone tried to again relay something to Reynolds from off camera. Reynolds strained to hear the person over the din of the newsroom.

“Speak up!” Reynolds barked like a drill sergeant, waving an accusing index finger at someone unseen.

One can’t really blame Reynolds in that moment. He was just trying to get the story right amid the chaos.

It’s popular convention that most people learned about JFK’s assassination via the CBS broadcast from Walter Cronkite, in the middle of “As the World Turns.”

“From Dallas, Texas, the flash apparently official, President Kennedy died at 1 pm, Central Standard Time,” intoned Cronkite removing his glasses. “Two o’clock, Eastern Standard Time. Some 38 minutes ago.”

Cronkite swallowed hard, pausing for a full seven seconds before speaking again.

HOW SECRET SERVICE PROTOCOL HAS CHANGED AMID PRESIDENTIAL ASSASSINATION ATTEMPTS THROUGH THE YEARS

But it’s unclear if that’s truly how most people learned of JFK’s death. That was the “TV” version. Thus, it’s iconic. Millions of Americans were listening to the radio in the middle of the afternoon. And it’s fascinating to cull through old radio broadcasts to see how local stations reported on it.

The coverage on WLW-AM in Cincinnati is particularly interesting.

And chaotic.

WLW is one of the nation’s most prominent radio stations. Billed as “The Nation’s Station,” WLW is what the industry calls a “blowtorch.” The station boasts a formidable, 50,000 watt, clear-channel signal which purportedly can reach 38 states at night. At one point, WLW was the strongest station in the world. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt flipped a switch at the White House which boosted the power to an astounding 500,000 watts. People in Europe could hear the transmission.

But WLW’s broadcast of the Kennedy assassination is emblematic of what hundreds of stations across the nation went through when the news broke.

At 1:30 pm et, WLW goes to the national NBC Radio newscast, hosted by Martin Agronsky. Agronsky does a report about Kennedy’s visit to Dallas. The national newscast concludes and local WLW host Fred Bernard takes back over in the studio. He gives the weather and talks about rain stretching from Toledo to Dayton. Bernard then plays the overture of the Broadway musical “Li’l Abner.” I guess that’s what they played on the radio back in those days.

STATE DEPT: WORLD HAS ‘QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR DEMOCRACY’ AFTER TRUMP SHOOTING, US MUST ‘RESPOND AS A NATION’

The overture only advances into a few soaring bars until it quickly fades. At the end, you hear Bernard slightly scratch the record as he lifts the needle and prepares to go on air.

“We’ll have to standby here for just a moment. There may be something happening,” warns Bernard as calmly as he gave the weather report.

“Yes there is,” says Bernard.

You then hear a studio door slightly squeak.

“There’s a bulletin just handed (to) me from Dallas, Texas,” says Bernard.

He then mentions that someone fired on President Kennedy’s motorcade.

After trying to parse the wire copy for a moment, Bernard levels with the audience.

RFK, JR. SPEAKS OUT AFTER SHOOTING AT TRUMP RALLY

“I’ll tell you exactly how this reads,” says Bernard. “‘Dallas. An unknown sniper fired three shots.’ And there are five letters. ‘PMOUX.’ Then a ‘FLASH.’  Kennedy’s name is misspelled. ‘FLASH’ again. And at the bottom of this headline it says ‘Kennedy seriously wounded.’”

Bernard says he’ll update the audience. But goes back to the record.

“This is the overture to Li’l Abner. Lehman Engel and orchestra,” says Bernard.

The most incongruous music possible for such an intense moment then begins playing. It’s an absurd barnyard fiddle which sounds like you’re at a hoe-down.

Walter Cronkite

This lasts for no more than ten seconds. The music cuts out cold. You hear two people speaking off-mic in the studio, in mid-conversation.

“…has been shot!” someone says.

“Who? Kennedy?” inquires another voice.

“Yeah,” someone affirms.

The president?” asks the second voice, incredulously.

“Yeah,” the other voice confirms again.

Then things get serious.

A deep-voiced announcer voice begins.

“Here is a bulletin from the WLW Comex Newsroom,” says an announcer-type, formally giving information about the shooting.

The voice says there were no casualties.

“We’ll keep you posted as the news comes in to the WLW newsroom.”

PRESIDENTS TARGETED BY BULLETS, BOMBS AND SUICIDE PLANES IN SHOCKING ASSASSINATION ATTEMPTS: SEE THE LIST

Without warning, the music starts up again, halfway through the overture.

Ironically, the tune from the musical at this point is a satirical ditty titled “The Country’s In the Very Best of Hands.”

The announcer comes back a few minutes later. Finally WLW switches to NBC Radio News and goes wall to wall with coverage. There’s even a live report from Robert MacNeil in Dallas who was traveling with Kennedy. MacNeil would go on to host the “MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour,” on PBS for 22 years.

There was pandemonium in Butler, Pa., on Saturday night. There were initial questions about whether there was actual gunfire.

I have experienced, watched and listened to many of these scenes before. Even covered or been a part of other moments like this in person.

There’s a common denominator in all of them. They are familiar to me. They’ve been familiar to me for decades.

They’re utter chaos.

Who is JD Vance’s wife, Usha Vance?

Usha Vance, the wife of Ohio Sen. JD Vance was thrust into the national spotlight after former President Donald Trump chose her husband as his running mate Monday.

Usha Vance, née Chilukuri, born in 1986, was raised in San Diego, California, and attended Yale Law School, where she met the future Ohio senator, according to a report from the New York Times.

“We were friends, and I liked that he was very diligent,” she told NBC News about how she met her husband in a 2017 interview. “He would show up at 9 a.m. appointments that I would set up for us to start working on the brief together.”

“The thing that I remember most about Usha is just how completely forward and comfortable with herself she was,” the Ohio senator said of his wife during the interview. “(She was) so defensive about the things that she really cared about.”

Before law school, Vance received a bachelor’s degree in history from Yale and a master’s in Philosophy from the University of Cambridge.

The pair married in 2014 and have three children together: sons, Ewan, 6, and Vivek, 4, and a daughter, Mirabel, 2.

Vance completed multiple clerkships after her graduation from Yale, according to an Axios report, including for Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts and for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh when he was serving on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

The wife and mother of three has in the past expressed skepticism of the possibility that her husband could be Trump’s vice presidential pick, telling Fox News last month such a decision would change the couple’s lives.

“I’m not raring to change anything about our lives right now,” she said while noting she is “open” to whatever happens.

GOP punches a MAGA ticket, which Democrats are already smearing as ‘extreme’

The Republican Party is going all in on the “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) movement with the selection of their 2024 candidates — which is already being framed by Democrats as an “extremist” ticket.

After months of speculation, GOP presidential nominee and former President Donald Trump announced his pick to join him on the 2024 Republican ticket, Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, a staunch supporter of the former president aligned with the MAGA wing of the GOP.

Democrats have attempted to smear Trump’s MAGA agenda as “extremist” over the years, a talking point that they are already using to describe the GOP pair after Trump revealed Vance will run with him on the ticket.

WHO IS TRUMP’S RUNNING MATE JD VANCE?

“Trump has selected far-right MAGA extremist JD Vance as his running mate. Vance is a 2020 election denier, supports a national abortion ban, and voted against IVF access,” Biden-Harris HQ, the Democrat’s official 2024 campaign account, posted on X after the announcement.

“Here’s the deal about J.D. Vance. He talks a big game about working people. But now, he and Trump want to raise taxes on middle-class families while pushing more tax cuts for the rich,” President Joe Biden said in a post on X.

Former Rep. Tim Ryan, the Democrat Vance beat for the Ohio Senate seat in 2022, also attacked the vice presidential pick as “even more extreme than Trump.”

“At best, JD Vance is a phony and a fraud. At worst, he has extremely deranged views towards women. His political agenda is even more extreme than Trump and his history of dishonesty and opportunism means he cannot be trusted,” Ryan claimed in a post on X.

TRUMP PICK JD VANCE CELEBRATED BY GOP: ‘OPPONENT OF ENDLESS WARS’

“I was hoping President Trump would have picked a VP that had a reputation of someone who consistently reached out to find common ground,” Ryan continued. “JD is the exact opposite of that. Democrats must act quickly to expose him.”

The GOP, however, is rallying behind Trump and Vance with unified support for the 2024 ticket and implementing “America first” policies.

Biden campaign slams JD Vance, says Trump VP pick will ‘enable’ an ‘extreme MAGA agenda’

Former President Donald Trump, the expected Republican presidential nominee, on Monday announced Ohio Sen. JD Vance as his running mate, and the Biden campaign is claiming he will “enable” an “extreme MAGA agenda.”

In an initial reaction to his contender’s choice as vice president, President Biden said Vance “talks a big game” about wanting to support working-class Americans but that he pushes “more tax cuts for the rich.”

“Here’s the deal about J.D. Vance,” Biden posted on X Monday. “He talks a big game about working people. But now, he and Trump want to raise taxes on middle-class families while pushing more tax cuts for the rich.”

“Well, I don’t intend to let them,” Biden said, asking supporters to donate to his campaign.

Trump hailed his vice presidential pick on Monday, saying that “after lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio.”

“J.D. honorably served our Country in the Marine Corps, graduated from Ohio State University in two years, Summa Cum Laude, and is a Yale Law School Graduate, where he was Editor of The Yale Law Journal, and President of the Yale Law Veterans Association,” he said.

“J.D.’s book, ‘Hillbilly Elegy,’ became a Major Best Seller and Movie, as it championed the hardworking men and women of our Country,” he said, adding that the freshman senator “has had a very successful business career in Technology and Finance.”

Biden-Harris 2024 Chair Jen O’Malley Dillon released a statement blasting Trump’s choice.

“Donald Trump picked J.D. Vance as his running mate because Vance will do what Mike Pence wouldn’t on January 6: bend over backwards to enable Trump and his extreme MAGA agenda, even if it means breaking the law and no matter the harm to the American people,” Dillon said.

“This is someone who supports banning abortion nationwide while criticizing exceptions for rape and incest survivors; railed against the Affordable Care Act, including its protections for millions with preexisting conditions; and has admitted he wouldn’t have certified the free and fair election in 2020,” she said.

Rep. Eric Swallwell, D-Calif., also reacted to the announcement with a post on X saying, “Interesting move to go from ‘he might be America’s Hitler’ to ‘is he hiring?’” referencing a previous comment from Vance calling Trump “America’s Hitler.”

Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison also reacted to the news saying, “This is the most consequential election of our lifetimes, and with Donald Trump’s decision today to add J.D. Vance to the Republican ticket, the stakes of this election just got even higher.”

“J.D. Vance embodies MAGA – with an out-of-touch extreme agenda and plans to help Trump force his Project 2025 agenda on the American people.”

“Let’s be clear: A Trump-Vance ticket would undermine our democracy, our freedoms, and our future,” Harrison said.
