Northern border sector smashes records for apprehensions

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) sector on the northern border has seen more apprehensions in the last fiscal year than the previous 13 years combined.

The Swanton Sector Border sector has seen 15,000 apprehensions in the 10 months of fiscal year 2024, the largest volume ever recorded by the sector, over 14,000 more than was recorded in fiscal year 2021, according to a report on CBS 19.

The sector, which spans 295 miles of the border with Canada and covers all of Vermont and parts of upstate New York and New Hampshire, has seen its numbers of apprehensions in just part of this fiscal year exceed the previous 13 combined, the report notes, adding that illegal migrants from 85 different countries have attempted to illegally cross in the area.

The report comes as illegal immigration continues to be an issue at the top of voters’ minds ahead of November’s election, with many polls showing voters have been dissatisfied with the record amount of illegal crossings at the nation’s southern border between 2021 and 2023.

While the southern border has received much of the attention, the report notes that the northern border has also reported a record number of illegal entries and apprehensions so far this fiscal year. In FY 2023, a record number of 190,000 migrants were apprehended at the U.S. border, while 162,865 have so far been apprehended at the border with Canada in the current fiscal year.

The report also noted that close to 1,100 known or suspected terrorists (KSTs) have attempted to enter the U.S. from Canada between 2021 and 2023, making up a large percentage of the over 1,700 total KSTs that have been apprehended nationwide since FY 2021.

Cuomo to testify on COVID orders, nursing home deaths as spox predicts a ‘master class in gaslighting’

Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo will sit for a hearing Sept. 10 before the congressional subcommittee tasked with probing the coronavirus pandemic, the panel announced Tuesday.

Cuomo, one of the most visible governors during the height of the pandemic, was lambasted for implementing stringent social and economic restrictions throughout the Empire State.

He also was blamed for thousands of COVID-related deaths that occurred in nursing homes, which a 2023 report from the NYS Department of Health calculated to be 826 in Suffolk County, 813 in Erie County – which includes Buffalo — and 623 in Queens County.

“Mr. Cuomo will be questioned about his Administration’s issuance of unscientific guidance that forced New York nursing homes and long-term care facilities to admit COVID-19 positive patients,” an announcement for the hearing read.

Cuomo, a Democrat, previously sat for a seven-hour transcribed interview with the subcommittee. The panel also interviewed Cuomo’s former secretary, Melissa DeRosa, and then-NYS Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker.

Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., a Staten Island lawmaker who sits on the subcommittee, said in an interview Tuesday that Cuomo still refuses to take responsibility for his orders and their repercussions.

She recounted how no one in Albany could point to exactly where the order partitioning nursing home patients came from.

“We still don’t know who approved that directive because the governor saying he didn’t know about it, he’s claiming that [Zucker] knew about it before it went out. And yet somehow they’ve been unable to identify who the person was that approved it and issued it, which is so negligent for a directive like that to go out without the health commissioner approving it at minimum,” she said.

The New York lawmaker also pointed to then-President Donald Trump dispatching a military medical ship to New York Harbor, the Jacob Javits Center, and the availability of a mental hospital in her district for the purposes of treating and partitioning serious COVID-19 patients.

“They weren’t being used. So why you have that directive in place, forcing the nursing home to take the COVID positive patients, even when you had alternatives? That was a big failure because at that point he was very clear about this directive.”

When asked how people in her district feel about the situation, Malliotakis said many had lost loved ones during the pandemic from “preventable deaths.”

“They were a result of putting COVID-positive patients in nursing homes. And that was based on a directive and mandate by the Cuomo administration. And the buck stops with him, and he needs to be held accountable,” she said.

“[He blamed] everybody but himself. No apology, no accountability. No remorse… the public deserves answers, and we’re going to push for them at this hearing.”

However, a Cuomo spokesman told Fox News Digital, “the facts speak for themselves” when it comes to the former governor’s handling of COVID, calling congressional Republicans’ oversight a “master class in gaslighting.”

“New York had a lower nursing home death pro-rata than all but 11 states,” said Rich Azzopardi.

Azzopardi called the committee a “farce” and criticized it for being comprised of a “foot doctor” – referring to Chairman Brad Wenstrup, R-Ohio, — “Trump’s personal physician” – former White House doctor; current Rep. Ronny Jackson, R-Texas, and “a representative with a Ph.D. in QAnon,” in regard to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga.,

“[The committee] refuse[s] to look in the mirror at their own anti-science policies that caused hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths or call the one witness who is most relevant and was supposed to lead the entire effort: Donald Trump,” Azzopardi said.

While in office, Cuomo was at times questioned by the press on the matter. In one notable exchange during a July 2020 press conference, the governor was asked about a state report on nursing homes and why an independent investigator was not appointed.

“I don’t believe your characterization is correct – I believe it is a political issue,” Cuomo shot back at the reporter.

Cuomo then went on to blame the New York Post and Fox News, as well as political motivations, for the issue’s prominence.

“People died in nursing homes. That’s very unfortunate. Just on the topline, we are number 35th in the nation in percentage of deaths in nursing homes. Go talk to 34 other states first.”

Cuomo was also criticized for interviews during the pandemic with his brother, Chris, on CNN. In one exchange, the siblings shared a laugh after Chris brandished two comically-large nasal swabs to suggest Andrew has exceptionally large nostrils.

California’s Democratic-controlled legislature axed a Republican proposal that would have exempted tipped-income from state income taxes, striking down a policy proposal similar to ones endorsed by Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.

“It is deeply disappointing that the legislature chose not to consider a proposal that could have provided much-needed relief to California’s workers,” Republican State Sen. Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh, who introduced the measure, said in a press release after it was defeated.

Ochoa Bogh introduced the amendment in California’s Senate on Thursday that would have exempted service industry workers with a state tax exemption on tips, but the proposal was voted down on a mostly party line vote without discussion or debate by the Democratic majority.

“With Californians facing one of the highest costs of living in the nation, our service and hospitality industry employees are particularly burdened by a tax system that leaves them struggling to make ends meet,” Ochoa Bogh said. “They deserve better, and today’s decision is a missed opportunity to support those who need it most.”

The attempt to exempt tips from taxes in the state comes as both Trump and Harris have expressed support for federal tax legislation that would exempt tipped-income on the campaign trail. Trump was the first to champion the proposal during a June rally in Nevada, while Harris, who started her political career in California, echoed a similar sentiment during an August rally in Las Vegas.

According to a press release by California Senate Republicans, the proposal in that state was aimed at helping service workers navigate California’s “unsustainable tax burden,” allowing workers who rely heavily on tipped-income to have more take-home pay.

REPUBLICANS BLAST BIDEN ADMIN OVER PLAN TO CRACK DOWN ON WAITERS’ TIPS

All nine Republican state senators supported the amendment, while almost all the state’s Democratic senators, except for Senate President Pro Tempore Mike McGuire and State Sen. Nancy Skinner, voted in opposition. McGuire and Skinner voted to abstain.

“The negligence involved in a refusal to even debate a policy issue of this magnitude cannot be overstated,” Republican Senate Minority Leader Brian W. Jones said in the release. “Legislative Democrats knew they were on the wrong side of this important issue, so they chose to sweep it under the rug rather than do the right thing for working Californians. The push to eliminate the federal tip tax has made its way to the campaign stage for both major party’s this year, yet California Democrat politicians don’t believe it be even worthy to discuss at the state level for residents here.”

McGuire’s office did not immediately respond to a Fox News Digital request for comment on the Democratic majority’s opposition to the amendment.

North Carolina elections board faces another lawsuit, as RNC sues swing state over noncitizen voting concerns

The North Carolina State Board of Elections (NCSBE) is facing another lawsuit, as the Republican National Committee (RNC) is suing the battleground state for allegedly opening the door for non-citizens to vote.

The lawsuit brought by the RNC and the North Carolina Republican Party in Wake County last week accuses the NCSBE and members, Alan Hirsch, Jeff Carmon, Siobhan Millen, Stacy Eggers IV and Kevin Lewis of failing to require identification to prove citizenship.

The lawsuit alleges that by violating the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) and not checking the identification of approximately 225,000 voters, the agency “is opening the door for non-citizens to vote.”

North Carolina is the first state in the nation to start voting. The battleground state starts mailing out ballots for eligible voters on Sept. 6.

“The NCSBE has once again failed in its mandate to keep non-citizens off the voter rolls, fueling distrust and jeopardizing our elections,” RNC Chairman Michael Whatley said in a statement. “We are committed to the basic principle – and commonsense law – that only Americans decide American elections. Deliberately failing to follow the law, right before our country’s most important election, is inexcusable. We will fight every day to ensure that NCSBE follows the law, cleans the voter rolls, and protects the vote for North Carolinians.”

“This State Board continually has problems ensuring voter rolls only have verified citizens,” NCGOP Chairman Jason Simmons added. “This lawsuit will remedy their ongoing refusal to collect the required information from those who want to take part in North Carolina elections. Accountability and fidelity to following the rule of law is long overdue for the most partisan Elections Board in state history.”

The state board formerly used a voter registration form that failed to require HAVA-required identification information, such as a driver’s license number or the last four digits of a Social Security number. Election officials admitted the form was non-compliant with HAVA and eventually fixed it, but in the meantime, approximately 225,000 people registered without supplying the HAVA-required information, the complaint says.

Election officials allegedly refused to take remedial action and did not reach out to these voters to collect the required information. Instead, what the defendants “offer as a solution is a half-hearted promise that those who were ineligible to register but were allowed to anyway will naturally filter themselves out from the state’s voter rolls when they conduct other election-related activities,” the complaint says.

“This inaction misses the mark,” the lawsuit says. “Not only does this ‘solution’ fail to remedy the ongoing violations of state and federal law or account for Defendants’ responsibilities under the same, but it leaves North Carolinians to wonder how they can trust in the security of their elections, especially when those tasked with protecting their rights cannot be bothered to do what is required by law.”

TRUMP RALLIES IN NC BEHIND BULLETPROOF GLASS AT FIRST OUTDOOR EVENT SINCE ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT

“Even worse, this ‘solution’ sends the message to the millions of duly qualified and registered voters in North Carolina that their chief elections officials will shirk their responsibilities and refuse to verify whether those who vote in the state’s elections are entitled to do so in the first place,” it adds.

Fox News Digital reached out to the NCSBE for comment, but they did not immediately respond.

This is the second lawsuit filed by the RNC and the NCGOP against the North Carolina Board of Elections in a matter of weeks.

Last month, Republicans sued the board for allegedly failing to check jury questionnaire responses to identify and remove non-citizens from the voter rolls, as required by law.

Harris in North Carolina

Last year, the state legislature passed SB747, a major election integrity law that requires state elections officials to cross-check when an individual claims to be a non-citizen on a jury questionnaire, to make sure that same person is not on the voter rolls. The RNC and NCGOP alleges that despite the law going into effect July 1, election officials have not begun to enforce it.

In February, North Carolina’s Office of State Budget and Management reported that approximately 325,000 “unauthorized” immigrants were residing in the state.

That was out of the total of 501,000 foreign-born non-citizens in North Carolina, according to the complaint in that case.

Last week, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. also sued the North Carolina State Board for denying his request to be removed from the state’s ballot before the November election. Despite the candidate dropping out of the race and endorsing former President Trump, the board decided in a 3-2 vote to keep Kennedy’s name because nearly 2 million ballots had already been printed.

Kennedy also was unable to remove himself from the ballot in the fellow battlegrounds of Michigan and Wisconsin.

Biden jokes he was ‘disappointed’ his great-grandfather wasn’t in murderous gang

President Biden joked he was once “disappointed” to find out his great-grandfather was not part of a violent group that killed bigoted mine foremen.

The president spoke about his ancestor, Edward Francis Blewitt, during a rally in support of Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris in Pittsburgh on Monday.

“I remember when my great-grandfather was only the second Catholic elected statewide in the state Senate here in Pennsylvania,” Biden told the audience. “And I remember they talked about – when they’d run against him in 1906 – they said, ‘Guess what? He’s a Molly Maguire.’”

“A lot of the English owned the coal mines and what they did was they really beat the hell out of the mostly Catholic population in the mines. Not a joke,” Biden continued. “But there was a group they called the Molly Maguires. And Molly Maguires, if they found out the foreman was taking advantage of an individual, they would literally kill him. Not a joke. And they would bring his body up and put him on the doorstep of his family.”

Harris nodded along as the president told the story of his maternal ancestor, an anecdote he previously used while on the campaign trial with former President Barack Obama.

“Kind of crude, but I gotta admit they accused my great-grandfather of being a Molly Maguire – he wasn’t, but we were so damn disappointed,” Biden told the audience before assuring them, “That was a joke. That was a joke.”

MARGIN OF ERROR RACE BETWEEN HARRIS AND TRUMP AS 2024 ELECTION ENTERS FINAL STRETCH

The Library of the Pennsylvania Senate confirms that Blewitt was the second Catholic person elected to the state assembly in 1907; he followed William McSherry, who served from 1813-1817.

Biden’s appearance in Pittsburgh marks a return from approximately a week of low profile vacationing in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

That vacation immediately followed an entire separate six-day getaway to Democratic Party donor Joe Kiani’s California ranch estate. Biden cleared his work schedule ahead of the multi-week holiday.

Biden’s disastrous performance against former President Donald Trump in their late June debate turned up the volume on existing concerns from Americans that the 81-year-old president would have the physical and mental stamina to handle another four years in the White House.

It also sparked a rising chorus of calls from top Democratic Party allies and elected officials for Biden to drop out of the race, which he did on July 21 before almost immediately endorsing Harris.

Most of the latest national surveys show Harris with a slight single-digit edge over Trump, but the presidential election is not a national popular vote contest. It is a battle for the individual states and their electoral votes.

Harris voter enthusiasm overtakes Trump after Democratic convention, poll finds

Vice President Kamala Harris has closed the enthusiasm gap with former President Trump as Democratic confidence surges in the wake of their Chicago convention, according to a new poll.

The USA Today/Suffolk University poll found Harris leading Trump 48% to 43% among likely voters, a lead that lies within the poll’s margin of error.

The swing toward Democrats also held true down ballot in the poll, with 48% of likely voters saying they planned to vote for the Democratic candidate in their local congressional election, compared to 43% for Republicans. That represents a seven-point swing from earlier this year, when Republicans held a slight 47-45 advantage over Democrats.

The USA Today poll surveyed 1,000 likely voters over landline and cellphone from Aug. 25-28, after the Democratic National Convention. The poll advertises a margin of error of 3.1 points.

“At this point in the race in 2016, Donald Trump was down to Hillary Clinton by an average of 5.9 points. At this point in the race in 2020, it was 6.9 to Joe Biden,” senior adviser Corey Lewandowski noted this weekend in an interview on “Fox News Sunday.”

Project 2025 remains nonpartisan, true to 1980s good-gov’t inception despite raucous outcry, key figures say

While the Heritage Foundation’s latest Mandate for Leadership and its overarching Project 2025 have been turned into a right-wing-‘boogeyman’ style Democratic talking point and fodder for Trump critics, its founders and current leaders maintain that its work product past and present speak for itself.

President Donald Trump has also criticized the latest iteration and denied any involvement in its formation: “I disagree with some of the things they’re saying, and some of the things they’re saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal,” Trump said last month.

From the Reagan administration through the present, the Heritage Foundation has published its Mandate for Leadership series almost every election cycle.

However, project leaders, including former Attorney General Edwin Meese III, who is now considered the preeminent “elder statesman” of the conservative movement, contend there is nothing radical about the endeavor.

In an interview on Wednesday, Meese said the major difference between 1980 and 2024 is that the mechanics of the project have changed.

“In the first one, in 1981, it was much more organizational, with information on structure and organizational norms, where – later on in 1989 – it was much more individual policy issues-based,” he said.

PROJECT 2025 ISSUES BLISTERING RESPONSE TO HARRIS VIA DOZENS OF INDEPENDENT FACT CHECKS

Former Attorney General Edwin Meese

After then-President-elect Reagan named Meese director of his transition team, Meese recalled being invited to a dinner with members of the Heritage Foundation and other conservatives and being offered early proofs of the 1981 Mandate for Leadership itself.

Charles Heatherly, who worked on the first project during the 1980 cycle, said on Thursday that the Carter crew had been approached to discuss the initiative – appearing to debunk present-day claims the projects have been one-sided partisan affairs.

“Both the Reagan campaign and the Carter campaign were invited to send a representative to that dinner. The Carter campaign never responded,” he said.

Meanwhile, Meese said the 1981 project had been “particularly helpful” in the Reagan years, because nothing of the sort had been done in a long time.

“Years ago, there had been a coalition, I think, during the Johnson administration. That was quite some time before 1980. And, so it was really time [for this project]. . . .”

“It was a really great effort [Heritage] made. They recruited authors who knew the [policy] topics because they had actually worked in those departments or in other [areas], which gave them the opportunity for knowledge about how the rest of the government worked.”

“And each department or agency had a chapter in the book. It was about 500 some-odd pages, I remember. And so I was very much impressed with what had happened.”

Meese recalled telling Reagan about the new project and said the California Republican had been immediately eager to view the final product.

“Reagan was so impressed that he had a meeting of his cabinet before the inauguration. And he put a copy of the book at every person’s desk.”

The meeting was held in the State Department’s conference center, and each secretary was told to “find your chapter,” Meese said.

From that point on, what had started as a meeting of conservative experts began to have a positive effect on the efficiency and policymaking within the new conservative White House.

One excerpt reported by UPI recommended against affirmative action, in that the new 1981 administration should “base its civil rights policy on the notion that every person has an inherent right to obtain whatever economic or other rewards he or she has earned, by virtue of merit, and that it is inherently wrong to penalize those who have earned their reward by giving preferential treatment and benefits to those who have not.”

As for how the Reagan administration utilized the first project’s work, Heatherly said the then-president’s political appointees were a “mixed bag,” which led to differences in consideration.

“Some agencies took it more seriously than others,” he said.

Heatherly also pointed to his recent Wall Street Journal column defending the project then and now:

He said he had recruited 20 teams of experts from previous White Houses, academic institutions and within then-fledgling Heritage itself.

The 1980 cycle’s book project went on to make the Washington Post’s bestseller list for three weeks, he added.

Steve Groves served as an assistant special counsel in the Trump administration while the president was being probed by former FBI Director Bob Mueller.

He is also the co-editor of this term’s Mandate for Leadership – the policy book portion of Project 2025.

Groves pushed back on the idea that Project 2025 or its book were intentionally geared toward Trump.

FORMER ATTORNEYS GENERAL URGE ABC TO ASK SPECIFIC QUESTIONS ABOUT SUPREME COURT

Steve Groves

Steve Groves (The Heritage Foundation)

“It’s just a lot of sloppy journalism,” he said. “Most [journalists] don’t chase the facts to get them right.”

Groves said after Biden politically collapsed in the June debate, mentions of Project 2025 in the media “spiked through the roof.”

He said it was evidence that the media-liberal-political coalition needed a new narrative, which was to make the Mandate for Leadership into an “insane document.” Groves said that many of the allegations, such as demands for the next president to outlaw abortion and end birthright citizenship, were entirely false.

“They just wanted to change the subject,” he said.

“[The idea] it’s Trump’s project is a lie,” Groves added, pointing to the fact the anthology came out in 2023 and had been crafted in 2022 when the presidential election was anyone’s game.

Groves and Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts echoed each other’s sentiments in that regard, as Groves noted that many of the chapters in this year’s work do not present a singular ideological viewpoint.

Regarding trade policy in particular, conservatives hold divergent views that both fall under the proverbial “big tent” on the right.

As Groves noted, Trump ally Peter Navarro – who would be considered a “fair trade” proponent – and the CEO of the pro-“free-trade” Competitive Enterprise Institute, Kent Lassman, co-authored that chapter.

Groves said Lassman’s purview more closely aligns with Heritage’s longstanding platform – but that Navarro’s inclusion further deconstructs allegations the project is a pro-Trump, far-right piece of propaganda.

For his part, Roberts suggested that situations like the above are what sets Heritage and Project 2025 apart from actual partisan policymaking endeavors.

In the 2024 cycle, he said, Heritage offered Project 2025 materials to every candidate or prospective candidate in the 2022-2023 timeframe, including Biden, Trump, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

“President Biden did not respond, but if he responded, I would have personally gone over to the White House very happily, not sarcastically, and offered him a briefing,” Roberts said.

“On the origins of the mandate, it’s always been the case that we offer it to any presidential candidate who is interested in a briefing. I mean, we offer congressional briefings to Democrats. Of course, here in Washington, fewer and fewer over the years have taken us up on that. But maybe one day we can see that happen again.”

Roberts said that another misconception is that Heritage has issued the same type of “project” every election cycle. In two ways, he said, that claim is flawed.

One, in elections like 2004, there was no reason to completely rewrite the manual for conservatism for either George W. Bush or then-Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., because a Bush re-election would have represented policy continuity.

Spencer Chretien, a Project 2025 associate director, said at the project’s inception that conservatism has also changed in the time since the 1980 election. Conservatives used to oppose things like the 1975 “Church Committee” – a congressional panel led by then-Sen. Frank Church, D-Idaho, examining the inner workings and “abuses” of the intelligence community.

Church’s committee might now be welcomed by conservatives, who have grown weary of the left’s embrace of the “government’s vast power.” No longer do many conservatives see the Church Committee as a “kooky leftist attack” against brave public servants, as they now themselves seek accountability for the actions of unelected bureaucrats there, he said.

Project 2025 is in other ways more like the original 1980-81 iteration, Roberts argued, in that it represents a consortium of sometimes-conflicting viewpoints that all fall within the conservative realm rather than a singular Heritage-viewpoint-based policy document.

Kevin Roberts

Roberts also spoke to right-wing concerns about the project, including the high-profile condemnation from Trump – as many of the authors of Project 2025, like Navarro, were former administration officials, while others like Lassman were not.

“This speaks to the heart of the project,” Roberts said. “The project is really candidate-agnostic – so it’s been interesting to see commentary ranging from ‘This is specific to Trump’ to ‘It’s not specific to Trump enough.”

“That actually underscores the point about how serious we are about it being candidate-agnostic. It’s important, obviously, given our IRS designation, but more importantly, our own ethics of the thing as it relates to Mr. Trump’s distancing of his campaign from it. That’s totally understandable.”

Roberts noted how the media have turned Project 2025 into a “boogeyman.” When Americans of all stripes are told exactly what is in the project, they’re more amenable to it than any critic claims they should be.

The Heritage leader also dispelled rumors that the July departure of co-editor Paul Dans had anything to do with Trump’s comments or the media’s condemnations. Dans’ work had ended, and he had moved on to other projects, Roberts said.

He also added that, just like when Heritage presented the first project to Meese and Reagan, there remains no presumption that a candidate – conservative or not – will implement it.

“It’s the kind of work that Heritage does all the time. Our honest response about Trump’s reaction to it: We’re gratified to see that it looks like a lot of that has calmed down,” he said.

“We want to wake up in a normal country. We want to wake up in a country where the American dream is alive. That’s what this project is about.”

FIRST ON FOX: Abortion is not a primary issue on the ballot for Black voters this election, according to Chicago Southside Republicans Chair Devin Jones. Instead, he said, Black voters – particularly men – are much more concerned about financial opportunities and entrepreneurship.

“I think if the Trump campaign definitely hit harder on the issues that specifically impact the Black community, for instance, inflation, which has made it harder to afford basic necessities, I think there is a jobs crisis, unemployment and an entrepreneurship crisis in the Black community,” Jones told Fox News Digital in an interview. “And so if there were surrogates who specifically outlined policies that talked about those things and directed it to the Black community.”

Former President Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, hopes to earn more of the Black vote in what is turning out to be a neck and neck race against Vice President Harris, the Democrat nominee, and has previously said he’s growing in popularity among Black men.

During Trump’s first term, he championed several initiatives aimed at Black voters, including opportunity zones and funding historically black colleges.

“This is a very progressive area,” Jones said of Chicago. “And a lot of our issues, as far as joblessness, the housing crisis, the lack of entrepreneurship opportunities, is because of a state and local government that produces heavy regulation, heavy taxation, which means that there’s less opportunity. So, I think if he could speak to how at the federal level he would be a partner to us as we fight against local overreach, that would go a long way to capturing kind of those on the fence and even some Black Democrats.”

Jones also said when he’s talking to people on the ground, he doesn’t normally “hear people talking about abortion like that,” even though the issue of abortion has been catapulted in recent weeks to the spotlight for both the Democrat and Republican platforms.

“Abortion is an issue because the vast majority of abortions are because of financial issues,” Jones said. “So, if you remedy the lack of economic opportunity and ability to provide for families, you will see a decrease in abortion,” Jones said. “Now me, personally, I would like to see President Trump and any Republican have a hard line stance against abortion.”

Trump’s latest – and clearest – comments about Florida’s Amendment 4, which would upend the state’s ban on abortions after six weeks’ gestation and enshrine a constitutional right to abortion in the state, may blunt some of the criticism he’s received from pro-life advocates. After Trump made remarks on Thursday that appeared to indicate he might back the amendment, he told Fox News Channel’s Bryan Llenas on Friday afternoon: “I’ll be voting ‘no.'”

Margin of error race between Harris and Trump as 2024 election enters final stretch

The 2024 Election season is reaching its crescendo.

Labor Day traditionally marks the final stretch ahead of a presidential election, and there are just nine weeks of campaigning left until Election Day on Nov. 5.

In a slew of states, however, the election actually gets underway this month. In swing state North Carolina, mail-in voting begins on Sept. 6. Early voting begins on Sept. 16 in Pennsylvania and Sept. 26 in Michigan, two other crucial electoral battlegrounds.

With the clock ticking, former President Donald Trump says he has the momentum.

“We’re leading in the polls now,” the former president said in an interview Friday with Fox News’ Bryan Llenas.

Minutes later, at a rally in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Trump touted that “our poll numbers are starting to skyrocket.”

Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris is urging her supporters to “not pay too much attention to the polls because we are running as the underdog.”

Harris, at a rally in Savannah, Georgia, late last week, pointed to her showdown with Trump and said, “We have some hard work ahead of us.”

Most of the latest national surveys show Harris with a slight single-digit edge over Trump, but the presidential election is not a national popular vote contest. It is a battle for the individual states and their electoral votes.

The latest surveys in the seven battleground states that decided the 2020 election between Trump and President Biden – and will likely determine the outcome of the 2024 showdown – indicate a margin-of-error race. Among those polls are a batch from Fox News that made headlines last week.

It is a big change from earlier this summer when Biden was still running.

Biden’s disastrous performance against Trump in their late June debate turned up the volume of existing doubts from Americans that the 81-year-old president would have the physical and mental stamina to handle another four years in the White House. It also sparked a rising chorus of calls from top Democratic Party allies and elected officials for Biden to drop out of the race.

National and battleground state polls conducted in July indicated Trump had opened up a small but significant lead over Biden.

The president dropped his re-election bid on July 21 and endorsed his vice president, and Democrats immediately coalesced around Harris, who quickly enjoyed a boost in her poll numbers and in fundraising.

Still, pollsters and political analysts stress that the Harris-Trump contest remains a coin-flip at this point.

While Trump touts his standing, the vice president predicts that “this is going to be a tight race until the very end.”

Biden teams up with Harris on campaign trail for 1st time since dropping re-election bid against Trump

Six weeks after he ended his re-election campaign amid rising calls from his own party to drop out of the race, President Biden returns to the campaign trail for the first time on Monday.

It will be the first of a “robust” schedule of campaign appearances by the president on behalf of Vice President Kamala Harris over the next two months, a White House official tells Fox News.

“President Biden will be leaning in heavily over the next several months to finish the job,” White House communications director Ben LaBolt said.

Biden will team up with Harris, whom he endorsed and who replaced him atop the Democrats’ 2024 ticket, at a Labor Day event in Pittsburgh, a union stronghold and the biggest city in the western half of the key battleground state of Pennsylvania.

It is part of a full court press by the Harris campaign on Labor Day in some of the seven key swing states that will likely determine the winner of the vice president’s election showdown with former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee.

LaBolt said that going forward, Biden will be “campaigning to elect Vice President Harris and Governor Walz and spending time with core constituencies with whom he has a long relationship, continuing to deploy investments in manufacturing, infrastructure, and emerging industries like clean energy, and strengthening our alliances on the world stage.”

Biden’s disastrous performance against Trump in their late June debate turned up the volume on existing concerns from Americans that the 81-year-old president would have the physical and mental stamina to handle another four years in the White House. It also sparked a rising chorus of calls from top Democratic Party allies and elected officials for Biden to drop out of the race, which he did on July 21.

Biden was showered with chants of “thank you, Joe” as he teamed up with Harris on Aug. 15 in Largo, Maryland, for their first joint appearance since his departure from the 2024 race. While it was billed as an official White House event to announce that the federal government had negotiated lower prescription drug prices with pharmaceutical companies that will likely save Americans billions of dollars, the gathering had the feel of a political rally.

Four days later, Biden was praised and applauded on a much larger scale, as he gave the headliner address on the first night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. It was a remarkable moment for a president, who weeks earlier was essentially pushed out of the race by his own party.

Harris, in a surprise appearance, joined her boss at the podium inside Chicago’s United Center following his speech.

Since replacing Biden as the party’s standard-bearer, Harris has enjoyed a rise in the polls and a surge in fundraising as part of the wave of momentum and energy she continues to ride.

Biden remains popular with many in the base of his party, and the president has a long history of campaigning on behalf of fellow Democrats. He was the most requested Democratic Party surrogate during the 2018 midterm elections when the party reclaimed control of the House.

BIDEN PASSES TORCH TO HARRIS AT FIRST NIGHT OF DEMOCRATS’ CONVENTION

A source in Biden’s political orbit told Fox News that the president continues to have “a lot of political appeal and juice with some of the key voters that we’re going to need to win in November.”

The strategist, who asked to remain anonymous to speak more freely, told Fox News that “the stakes of the election are what got him to run for re-election. It’s what he thinks about every single day… Just because it’s not his name on the ticket doesn’t mean that he doesn’t care just as much about winning this election. That’s why you’ll see him fighting, because all the stuff that he said when he was running he still believes.”

“Going to Pittsburgh, talking about the economy and reaching the voters that he has strength with, I think you’ll see him do that a lot,” the source added.

The president said this weekend that his stop in Pittsburgh, a city he has frequently visited over the years, would be the first of many campaign trail appearances between now and November’s election.

“I am on the road from there on,” the president told reporters on Saturday.

However, there are some risks with putting Biden back on the campaign trail. While his approval ratings have slightly edged up since he dropped his re-election bid, they remain well underwater.

Additionally, while Harris repeatedly works to portray herself as a leader who will chart a “new path forward,” Biden is a reminder to voters of the present and the past.

Sources in the Harris campaign confirm that going forward the president and vice president will campaign together at times – and that Biden will focus on Pennsylvania, as well as Michigan and Wisconsin, the two other Rust Belt states that make up the Democrats’ so-called “Blue Wall.”

The party reliably won all three states for a quarter-century before Trump narrowly captured them in the 2016 election to win the White House.

Four years later, in 2020, Biden carried all three states by razor-thin margins to put them back in the Democrats’ column, as he defeated Trump.

Biden heads to Wisconsin and Michigan later this week to tout the administration’s efforts to lower costs, for official events that will likely pack a political punch, thanks to the president’s continued appeal with White, working-class voters and union members.

LaBolt said that the president’s schedule going forward “will be robust and he plans to leave it all on the field in securing as much progress as possible for hardworking Americans, be that through implementation or legislative action.”

The Senate race in Michigan has emerged as a much bigger Republican pickup opportunity than originally imagined as former Rep. Mike Rogers recently tied his Democrat opponent with a key group, according to a new poll.

Michigan Republican strategist Jason Cabel Roe was not initially expecting the Republican traction that Rogers is now seeing in the state due to Michigan’s recent history of electing primarily Democrat senators.

GOP operatives have agreed that the Michigan race’s status has come as a welcome surprise.

“It seems like Michigan may be a little bit more competitive than Ohio,” a senior Republican strategist told Fox News Digital, remarking that races in West Virginia, Montana and Ohio have been traditionally understood as the best Republican opportunities this cycle.

“What I’ve seen shows that Michigan is extremely competitive,” he explained.

The seat is currently occupied by outgoing Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich.

In a new AARP-commissioned Michigan poll, Rogers is tied with Rep. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., among voters over 50 years old, 46%-46%. With all voters, the race remains tight, with Slotkin slightly ahead, 47% to 44%.

Bob Ward, a partner with the bipartisan polling team Fabrizio Ward, said it is “definitely a battleground Senate race.”

Slotkin led Rogers by just one point among registered voters, 42% to 41%, in a separate poll from the New York Times and Siena College in early August.

Rogers has demonstrated his race as one of the closest this cycle so far and operatives have pointed to several reasons.

Cabel Roe cited the Michigan race as evidence of the importance of candidate quality when it comes to winning elections. He said Rogers, a former congressman and chair of the House Intel committee, is a better prospect than some of the other Republicans running in tight Senate races across the country.

Further, he noted the fact that Rogers isn’t taking on an incumbent like many of the other Republicans. Because of this, Slotkin faces many of the same challenges in her campaign for the Senate seat that Rogers does.

One aspect that Cabel Roe said may have been overlooked in considering the competitiveness of Michigan is the relatively large Muslim constituency and their disapproval of the Biden-Harris administration’s actions in the war in Gaza between Israel and terrorist group Hamas.

Cabel Roe doesn’t expect disaffected Muslim voters to turn to Republicans but said they could choose not to vote at all, hurting Democrats.

Last month, nonpartisan political handicapper the Cook Political Report shifted the Michigan Senate race from “Lean Democratic” to “Toss Up,” reflecting the election’s competitive nature. Also in the category are Senate races in Montana and Ohio.

Tulsi Gabbard defends Trump campaign, says camera at Arlington was ‘approved’

Former Democrat congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard weighed in on former President Trump’s appearance at the Arlington National Cemetery, defending his campaign against recent criticism.

Gabbard, who attended the ceremony alongside Trump, said she did not witness the alleged altercation between campaign staff and a cemetery official at the event. The Army released a statement last week saying a cemetery official had been “pushed aside” while attempting to enforce a ban on photography.

Gabbard said during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” that she was told the Trump campaign had received permission to bring a camera for the occasion.

“I checked with the campaign on this question, and they have exchanges with the officials at Arlington Cemetery. They were approved to bring a camera there to document this historic and momentous day that should not be forgotten by any American,” Gabbard told host Dana Bash.

“Do you think that the campaign will release that communication that you’re talking about?” Bash pressed.

“I thought they already had. I was informed that they had come to an agreement they could bring a camera there. And as far as I know, in the public statements I have seen from the Army is that the matter is closed,” Gabbard responded.

The Army, however, said in a statement last week that the Trump campaign had been warned about existing bans on photography at the event.

“Participants in the August 26th ceremony and the subsequent Section 60 visit were made aware of federal laws, Army regulations and DoD policies, which clearly prohibit political activities on cemetery grounds. An ANC employee who attempted to ensure adherence to these rules was abruptly pushed aside,” the Army said.

“Consistent with the decorum expected at ANC, this employee acted with professionalism and avoided further disruption. The incident was reported to the JBM-HH police department, but the employee subsequently decided not to press charges. Therefore, the Army considers this matter closed,” the statement continued.

Abandon Biden campaign relaunches, targets Harris in key swing states

The Abandon Biden campaign is relaunching and “intensifying” its campaign, this time focusing its efforts against Vice President Kamala Harris in key swing states.

The campaign released a statement on X last week, announcing that it is “ramping up efforts in key swing states to rally Muslim-Americans and their allies against the Harris-Walz ticket.”

“This action is a direct response to Kamala Harris’ support for the ongoing genocide in Gaza,” the Abandon Harris campaign said in the release.

The movement, which originated in the heavily-Muslim populated city of Dearborn, Michigan, first targeted the re-election campaign of President Biden during primary season, arguing that the president’s continued support for Israel made it necessary for the community to send a message to the Democratic Party.

HARRIS CLAIMS SHE ‘MADE CLEAR’ HER POSITION ON FRACKING IN 2020 – TRANSCRIPT SHOWS ANOTHER STORY

Along with movements such as the “Vote Uncommitted” movement that bubbled up in Dearborn around the same time, the campaigns were able to get over 100,000 voters to cast uncommitted ballots during the Michigan primary earlier this year.

Biden’s decision to drop out of the race in July and the subsequent elevation of Harris to the top of the ticket seemingly cracked the door open that members of the movement may be able to rally support for the Democratic ticket, but tensions between Harris and the campaign’s leaders have continued as the vice president has failed to fully commit to their demands.

“We are not interested in hollow rhetoric, empty platitudes, or shallow calls for a ceasefire while the Biden-Harris administration continues to send weapons to Israel, enabling the indiscriminate slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza and fueling a wider regional conflict,” the campaign said in the release. “Words without meaningful action are meaningless, and the continued complicity in these atrocities will not be tolerated.”

During the primary season, the group was able to spread its influence from Michigan to Wisconsin, two critical swing states in November’s election. Both states have been decided by razor-thin margins in the previous two presidential elections, making the lack of support from a demographic that has leaned heavily Democratic for much of the last 20 years a potentially decisive factor in the states.

HUCKABEE SANDERS BLASTS HARRIS FOR DOING JOINT INTERVIEW WITH WALZ: CAN’T DO IT ‘BY HERSELF’

As of Sunday, the Real Clear Politics Polling average shows Harris with slim leads in both states, coming in with a 1.1 point lead in Michigan and a 1.4 point lead in Wisconsin.

The campaign has also looked to expand to other swing states, having had success pivoting to states such as Minnesota during the primary season.

While the group did not offer support for the campaign of former President Donald Trump, it urged supporters “to avoid falling into the complacent trap of abstaining from the 2024 election” and “to vote against genocide and to support third-party candidates as a clear message that we reject any party that participates in or supports genocide.”

“At this time, we have not issued an endorsement of any specific third-party candidate. If and when that changes, we will announce it,” the release said.

“Abandon Biden, now Abandon Harris, will not cede a single inch,” the release continued. “We remain firm and steadfast in our convictions and our mission to ensure that the party currently supporting, funding and enabling the Israeli genocide of Palestinians in Gaza is defeated at the polls.”

Reached for comment by Fox News Digital, a spokesperson for Abandon Harris said that the campaign had “extended an olive branch to Kamala Harris and expressed our openness to dialogue” after Biden’s decision to drop out of the race.

“After nearly a month of waiting, during which she had a disastrous rally in Michigan where she inadvertently revealed her stance on those protesting the genocide in Gaza, we launched Abandon Harris on August 19,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson added that the organization believes there is nothing Harris can do to regain their support, but noted that they do not encourage anyone to vote for Trump.

“We remember Trump’s decision to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, as well as his stance during Gaza’s Great March of Return,” the spokesperson said. “We have consistently urged voters not to support either the Democratic or Republican parties, while also making it clear that sitting out the election is not an acceptable option.”

The Harris campaign did not immediately respond to a Fox News Digital request for comment.

Graham urges Biden, Israel to take on Iran after hostages killed, calls Harris foreign policy ‘wrecking ball’

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. urged President Biden and Israel to take action against Iran after six more hostages were killed, calling Vice President Harris a “wrecking ball on foreign policy.”

Appearing on ABC’s “This Week,” Graham reacted to the news that Israeli-American Hersh Goldberg-Polin was among the six hostages whom the Israel Defense Forces reported finding brutally murdered by Hamas as Israeli forces were close to rescuing them.

“Heartbroken. Yeah. Devastated. Mad. John and Rachel have done everything in their power to help their son be released from captivity after 11 months of captivity,” Graham said, referencing Goldberg-Polin’s parents. “He was murdered by Hamas. Hamas [couldn’t] care less about the hostages or the Palestinians. And if you want the hostages home, which we all do, you have to increase the cost to Iran.”

“Iran is the Great Satan here. Hamas is the junior partner. They’re barbaric, religious Nazis, Hamas,” Graham continued. “They [couldn’t] care less about the Palestinian people. I would urge the Biden administration and Israel to hold Iran accountable for the fate of remaining hostages, and put on the target list oil refineries in Iran if the hostages are not released.”

The IDF said all six hostages had been killed shortly before the arrival of Israeli forces.

Hamas terrorists seized Goldberg-Polin, 23, and four of the other hostages at a music festival in southern Israel during the Oct. 7 attack. The native of Berkeley, California, lost part of his left arm to a grenade in the attack. In April, a Hamas-issued video showed him alive but with his left hand missing, sparking new protests in Israel.

The Israeli army identified the other dead hostages as Ori Danino, 25; Eden Yerushalmi, 24; Almog Sarusi, 27; and Alexander Lobanov, 33; who were also taken from the music festival. The sixth, Carmel Gat, 40, was abducted from the nearby farming community of Be’eri. The IDF said the bodies were recovered from a tunnel in Rafah, around a half a mile from where another hostage, Qaid Farhan Alkadi, 52, was rescued alive last week.

Graham accused Harris of “sending a signal” to terrorists in the Middle East that the United States doesn’t have Israel’s back when she boycotted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address before a joint session of Congress.

“She’s been a senator. She’s attorney general. She’s now vice president. Obviously, she has some talent. But here’s what I would say. On foreign policy, she’s been a wrecking ball,” Graham said. “On Israel, she sat there and listened to somebody call the Israeli government and people engaging in genocide and did nothing about it. She boycotted Bibi’s speech to the Congress, sending a signal to Hamas and Iran that America really doesn’t have Israel’s back. She was cheerleading the withdrawal from Afghanistan. She’s bragged about being the last person in the room, the dumbest decision maybe in modern history by American administration.”

“I was in Munich when she warned the Russians not to invade Ukraine. Four days later, they did. She’s been in charge of the border,” he continued. “I don’t know what the hell she’s been doing on the border, but we’ve got more terrorists in our country than any time in history. And fentanyl poisoning is the leading cause of death among young people in America.”

“She’s been a wrecking ball on foreign policy,” Graham stated. “It’s been the most incompetent administration I can remember on things that matter to the American people, your safety and your prosperity.”

HARRIS SLAMS TRUMP OVER ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY ALTERCATION, PROMPTING FIERY RESPONSE FROM JD VANCE

Graham was asked about a reported altercation at Arlington National Cemetery, where former President Trump was invited by the families of the 13 U.S. service members killed at Abbey Gate to participate in a wreath-laying ceremony on the three-year anniversary of the Aug. 26, 2021, ISIS-K bombing that happened during the Biden administration’s Afghanistan withdrawal.

“I’m all for looking at what happened. But you know what really is unfortunate? That these families had to go visit their fallen loved ones at Arlington due to incompetence by the Biden administration,” Graham told ABC. “You know, I’ve tried to work with President Biden to get Saudi Arabia and Israel to reconcile. I’ve supported a lot of their … nominees. I’ve known President Biden for a long time, but Vice President Harris bragged about being the last person in the room, cheerleading the withdrawal of all forces that led to the death of these13. Rising terrorism, combine that with a broken border – another 9/11 coming our way. So what I take away from this whole debate about Arlington is why they died, how they died, and the incompetency that led to their death to the American people.”

“We’ve lost deterrence. Nobody in the world is afraid of Kamala Harris. She has become, in my view, ineffective, in terms of a voice for America. So if you want to avoid more dead Americans, vote for Trump,” he added.

The Trump campaign, the 45th president and Gold Star families launched a scathing defense attack against Vice President Kamala Harris over Labor Day weekend, after the Democratic nominee claimed that Trump had “disrespected sacred ground” at Arlington National Cemetery.

“You should be ashamed and embarrassed [about] your lack of empathy and decency as a human being,” Darren Hoover, the father of Marine Staff Sgt. Taylor Hoover, said in a video shared by Trump and directed at Harris. “You are only in this for the power and prestige. You don’t care for our military or the citizens of this country.

Hoover was one of eight Gold Star family members who recorded video messages published on Trump’s X account slamming Harris for claiming that Trump had “disrespected sacred ground” last week at Arlington National Cemetery on the anniversary of the Biden-Harris’s administration’s botched withdrawal from Afghanistan that left 13 U.S. service members killed.

Trump joined Gold Star families at the national cemetery in Virginia last Monday for a wreath-laying ceremony to honor the 13 service members who were killed during the terrorist attack at Abbey Gate outside Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport on Aug. 26, 2021.

Families of those who died said they had invited Trump to the public event, and also had approved a Trump campaign photographer to record the event, Fox News previously reported.

Following the event, media outlets such as NPR and the Associated Press reported that the photographer had recorded footage in a restricted area that prohibits political activity, with the U.S. Army adding that a cemetery staffer had been ”abruptly pushed aside” during the event.

“Participants in the August 26th ceremony and the subsequent Section 60 visit were made aware of federal laws, Army regulations and DoD policies, which clearly prohibit political activities on cemetery grounds. An ANC employee who attempted to ensure adherence to these rules was abruptly pushed aside,” the Army said in a statement.

Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung argued that the staffer who had blocked the campaign photographers appeared to be having a “mental health episode.” He also specified that the campaign had been granted approval to bring a photographer.

“The fact is that a private photographer was permitted on the premises and, for whatever reason, an unnamed individual, clearly suffering from a mental health episode, decided to physically block members of President Trump’s team during a very solemn ceremony,” he said.

Harris was, meanwhile, conspicuously absent from any public events or memorial services to honor the service members, only issuing a statement Monday morning, while President Biden was in the midst of back-to-back vacations in California and then Delaware. Biden also released a White House statement last week honoring the service members killed.

The controversy over the Arlington cemetery visit intensified this weekend, when Harris posted an attack against Trump’s visit on Saturday.

“Donald Trump’s team chose to film a video there, resulting in an altercation with cemetery staff. Let me be clear: the former president disrespected sacred ground, all for the sake of a political stunt,” she posted in part.

REPUBLICANS SLAM HARRIS FOR BEING ‘LAST PERSON IN THE ROOM’ WHEN BIDEN MADE CALL TO EVACUATE AFGHANISTAN

The post was soon followed by a cascade of messages from the Trump campaign, Trump supporters and Gold Star families slamming Harris for her comments on X, with the loved ones of those who died in Afghanistan shaming Harris for “playing politics” and blaming the Biden-Harris administration for the deaths of the 13 service members.

”Your administration killed my son,” said Steve Nikoui, Father of Lance Corporal Kareem M. Nikoui, “you were not at Dover for the dignified transfer . . . not once have you honored him by saying his name.”

”It’s been three years since my son was killed in action, and myself, my family and other Gold Star families have not seen any support from you or your administration,” said Herman Lopez, father of Corporal Hunter Lopez.

“Why did we want Trump there? It wasn’t to help his political campaign,” Mark Schmitz, the father of Marine Lance Cpl. Jared Schmitz, said in the video. “We wanted a leader. That explains why you and Joe didn’t get a call.”

THREE YEARS LATER, AFGHANISTAN WAR VETERANS HAVEN’T FORGOTTEN – HAVE YOU?

“In keeping with the reverence and respect that is given to all members of our military that are buried there, we invited President Trump,” Hoover said. “We are the ones that asked for the video and the pictures to be taken at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.”

GOLD STAR DAD RECALLS KNOCK AT HIS DOOR THAT ‘CHANGED EVERYTHING’

Hoover also added that Trump has “been there for us from the very beginning,” and criticized Harris for “playing politics” over the incident.

Trump published each video on his X account in quote posts responding to Harris.

Trump’s campaign also slammed Harris for the message, with Ohio. Sen. JD Vance, Trump’s running mate, asking Harris to turn her attention to opening an investigation into the 13 service member’s deaths instead of posting on social media.

BIDEN-HARRIS ADMINISTRATION IN ‘DENIAL’ ABOUT BOTCHED AFGHANISTAN WITHDRAWAL, HR MCMASTER SAYS

“President Trump was there at the invitation of families whose loved ones died because of your incompetence,” Vance posted to X on Saturday. “Why don’t you get off social media and go launch an investigation into their unnecessary deaths?”

Trump campaign national press secretary Karoline Leavitt added on X that “Kamala’s stupidity led to one of the most embarrassing events in American history and 13 brave US soldiers being killed.”

“Kamala Harris bragged about being the last person in the room with Joe Biden when they decided on their terrible Afghanistan withdrawal plan,” Leavitt posted. . . . She has never said their names. She has never reached out to their families. For this alone, Kamala does not deserve to be elected. Kamala has already proven that she would be a dangerously incompetent Commander in Chief.”

TRUMP RIPS BIDEN FOR NOT FIRING GENERALS AFTER BOTCHED AFGHANISTAN WITHDRAWAL: ‘INCOMPETENCE’

In addition to the deaths of the 13 U.S. service members defending the Kabul airport during the botched withdrawal, hundreds of Americans and tens of thousands of Afghan allies were left in the country under Taliban rule. Critics such as Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said the withdrawal paved the way for adversaries such as Russia to invade Ukraine.

The Taliban ultimately claimed control of Afghanistan following the withdrawal.

Harris previously confirmed that she was the “last person in the room” with Biden before he made the decision to withdraw and also told the media that she was “comfortable” with the operation that ultimately turned deadly and chaotic.

Other commenters and supporters of Trump sounded off on Harris’ attack on social media, including pointing to how Biden was infamously photographed checking his watch on the tarmac of Dover Air Force Base during the dignified transfer of the soldiers when they arrived home in 2021.

The Gold Star families of those killed in Afghanistan railing against Biden and Harris for the botched and chaotic withdrawal, which included leaving an estimated $7 billion in military equipment in the Taliban’s hands, is not new. Loved ones of those killed three years ago have long sounded off that the Biden administration owes an apology to those who served, and some family members joined the RNC in Milwaukee in July, again slamming the Biden administration’s handling of the withdrawal.

“Look at our faces. Look at our pain, and our heartbreak. And look at our rage. [The Afghanistan withdrawal] was not an extraordinary success,” said Cheryl Juels, the aunt of Marine Sgt. Nicole Gee. “Joe Biden owes the men and women who served in Afghanistan a debt of gratitude, and an apology.”

The Harris campaign directed Fox News Digital to Harris’ White House statement last week regarding the anniversary when asked for comment on the eight videos from Gold Star family members Sunday morning.

“Today and everyday, I mourn and honor them. My prayers are with their families and loved ones.  My heart breaks for their pain and their loss. These 13 devoted patriots represent the best of America, putting our beloved nation and their fellow Americans above themselves and deploying into danger to keep their fellow citizens safe,” Harris wrote in the statement. Trump campaign says pro-lifers give ‘tacit endorsement’ of Harris’ ‘radical’ abortion position by not voting

Trump-Vance campaign adviser Cory Lewandowksi said that pro-lifers who choose not to vote due to dissatisfaction over former President Trump’s moderate stance on abortion give a “tacit endorsement” of Kamala Harris’ “radical position on abortion.”

Appearing on “Fox News Sunday,” Lewandowski, a 2016 Trump campaign adviser who recently joined the 2024 re-election team, was asked about pro-life activist Lila Rose’s recent comments to Politico Magazine.

Rose, who runs Live Action, said in a recent interview that Trump has been “alienating” his base by moving to the center in recent weeks.

“I think it’s very foolish what he’s doing,” Rose told Politico. “It’s politically unwise, it may cost him the election, and it’s morally unprincipled as well. Right now, it’s all about turnout. If he wants to galvanize his base, he needs to stop trying to pander to Kamala Harris’ base, because they’re never going to vote for him anyway.”

The Republican presidential nominee has spoken out against using the federal government to ban the delivery of abortion medication by mail. Trump also pledged universal support for IVF treatment because “we want more babies.” Despite Democrat Kamala Harris insisting Trump would enact a national abortion ban if elected, Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, has said Trump would veto any such measure.

Trump has also said in recent days that Florida’s abortion limit after six weeks is “too short.”

JD VANCE VOWS TRUMP WOULD NOT IMPOSE FEDERAL ABORTION BAN, VETO IF IT COMES ACROSS DESK

“If she chooses to stay home, then by, you know, tacit endorsement, she’s supporting, Kamala Harris, who has had a radical position on the issue of abortion,” Lewandowski said of Rose Sunday. “Many Democrats believe that you can have an abortion not only on up until the last week, but also in some cases after the baby’s been born. What Donald Trump has said was, let’s have the states decide – they are the laboratories of democracy. Let’s turn this back. And that’s what Roe v. Wade really did. And so we see across this country right now opportunities for individuals to go and vote at the ballot box of what they want to see transpire in their state.”

“And every state is going to look a little different,” he continued, responding to  host Shannon Bream. “We have seen some relatively or very conservative states go to a position where women are given opportunities that you would not have expected because of that. But those states understand, whether it’s Ohio or Kansas, that women have the opportunity to make their own decisions, and the states are allowing that to happen. So what Donald Trump has done, and I think by and large, the American people support this, is Roe v. Wade has been overturned because of his three Supreme Court nominees that are now sitting on the bench. And they’ve put it back to the states. And it’s a decision at the local level now.”

As the presidential race heats up with less than three months until Election Day, candidates in smaller-scale races across the country are also sprinting to the November finish line.

Those include the 435 races that will decide control of the House of Representatives next year.

“I feel sort of bullish for Republicans right now,” veteran GOP strategist Doug Heye told Fox News Digital. “This [presidential] race, especially in the swing states, is going to be so close that, to me, mitigates some of the ‘If Trump wins, Republicans keep the House, if Harris wins, Democrats take it back’ – that mitigates it for me to some extent.”

Democratic strategist Joel Rubin, on the other hand, was confident in his party’s redistricting wins and renewed political enthusiasm since Vice President Kamala Harris took over the mantle from President Biden last month.

KEY SENATOR REPORTEDLY BEHIND HARRIS’ RISE TO POWER WITHHOLDS HIS ENDORSEMENT FOR PRESIDENT

House lawmakers

Reps. Mary Peltola, left, and Mike Lawler, right, are vulnerable incumbents defending their seats this year, while both parties are eyeing the districts being vacated by Reps. Dan Kildee, center left, and Abigail Spanberger, center right. (Getty Images)

“These 35, 40 swing districts, I think about 18 to 20 are Biden wins in red seats. So the map looks promising,” Rubin said. “And the thing that’s distinct now from a month ago, obviously, is Democratic enthusiasm . . . I do think Democrats can take back the House with these kinds of numbers and these kinds of structural gains.”

And with ever-shrinking margins in the House in recent years, it’s likely control of the House will come down to just several key races, five of which Fox News Digital highlighted below:

NY-17

Freshman Rep. Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., is running against former Democratic Rep. Mondaire Jones in the New York suburbs just north of the Big Apple. His district is among several that Biden won in 2020, and Democrats see an opening to win it back.

Both Jones and Lawler have sought to paint each other as radicals, each tying his rival to the most unpopular policy stances in their respective parties.

Lawler, for his part, has been ranked among the most bipartisan lawmakers in the 118th Congress.

FOX NEWS POWER RANKINGS: FIVE THEMES EMERGE IN THE BATTLE FOR THE HOUSE GAVEL

Jones, meanwhile, has reshaped himself closer to the center, going so far as to endorse the primary opponent of a former progressive anti-Israel colleague, Rep. Jamaal Bowman, which earned him ire from that faction of House Democrats.

“I think that’s a really important one, that’s a potential pickup for Democrats against a moderate, well-regarded Republican – but in a district that had been blue, and there are . . . seats that Democrats lost in New York that we should not have lost two years ago – and that was the difference between minority and the majority,” Rubin said.

Heye said, “I’m betting on Lawler, he’s a good fit for that district. And I think there are still some divisions on the Democratic side.”

VA-07

Both Republicans and Democrats are looking at a portion of the Washington, D.C., suburbs in Virginia as a chance for victory in a district that Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-Va., is vacating to run for governor.

The Democrat running is Eugene Vindman, the brother of Alexander Vindman, whose congressional testimony sparked the first impeachment of former President Donald Trump.

On the GOP side is Derrick Anderson, an attorney and former Special Forces Green Beret.

Spanberger won in 2017 by defeating a Tea Party Republican, and the GOP is eyeing a chance to take the seat back.

FOX NEWS POWER RANKINGS: THREE GOVERNOR’S RACES TO WATCH ON ELECTION NIGHT

“If I were designing, like, a prototype Democrat to run in a swing district, Spanberger is who I would design – perfect for that district, but she’s not running again. So that makes it harder for Democrats, and I know outside groups are putting money into [that race],” said Heye.

Rubin defended Vindman, pointing out both he and Spanberger were relevant to the national security space between his military experience and her time in the FBI.

“I think this is one where he can build off the Spanberger brand,” he said.

MI-08

Another competitive seat will be the one being vacated by Rep. Dan Kildee, D-Mich., at the end of this year.

Dan Kildee

The central Michigan district has grown more conservative in recent years, according to Bridge Michigan, though Biden eked out a 2% victory there over Trump in 2020.

That race is between Democratic State Sen. Kristen McDonald Rivet and former Trump administration appointee Paul Junge.

Heye said of the open seat there and in Virginia, “What I’ve been hearing for a while now… is that the open seats have become a liability for Democrats with their math in taking back the House.”

MD-06

Maryland’s 6th congressional district could be Republicans’ best pickup opportunity in an otherwise majority-blue state, with Democratic Rep. David Trone leaving at the end of this year.

David Trone

April Delaney, whose husband John Delaney held the Seat from 2013 to 2017, is running on the Democratic side against Republican former state delegate Neil Parrott.

The district leans blue, but a Washington Post story on the race pointed out that it also has 141,000 unaffiliated voters who could decide the outcome.

Rubin noted he was supportive of Delaney’s bid but conceded that having popular former governor Larry Hogan on the ballot for Senate could inspire more middle-of-the-road people to vote Republican in state congressional races.

Republicans are coalescing around Nick Begich, left, to take on Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola in Alaska.

AK-At Large

Heye said he was also growing confident about Republicans’ chances in Alaska, where its lone congressional seat will be decided using ranked-choice voting.

“In Alaska, [Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola] could win, but to do so, she’s going to have to massively over-perform,” the GOP strategist said. “If we’re talking two weeks ago, I would say Republicans are split, ranked-choice voting, the Democrats win. That framework doesn’t exist anymore.”

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

The general election was meant to be a three-way race between Peltola, Republican Nick Begich, and Alaska Lt. Gov. Nancy Dahlstrom.

Republicans have consolidated in recent days, however, with House GOP leadership getting behind Begich and Dahlstrom dropping out of the race.

Peltola, a moderate Democrat, is generally well-liked in the state, which voted for Trump by roughly 10 points over Biden in 2020. Those dynamics now make for what’s expected to be a close race.

Gold Star families call out ‘heinous’ statement from Harris about Arlington National Cemetery visit

Vice President Kamala Harris was recently excoriated by Gold Star family members who accused the Democratic presidential candidate of politicizing an incident at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday.

The messages were posted on former President Trump’s Instagram account. Eight videos, each featuring different parents of service members killed by ISIS-K terrorists amid the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan on Aug. 26, 2021, were published in total.

The videos were released in the wake of a statement published by Harris on Saturday, where the vice president criticized Trump for taking photographs at a wreath-laying ceremony event on Monday. The Army said this week that an Arlington National Cemetery official was “abruptly pushed aside” while interacting with Trump’s staff.

“As Vice President, I have had the privilege of visiting Arlington National Cemetery several times,” Harris said. “It is not a place for politics. And yet, as was reported this week, Donald Trump’s team chose to film a video there, resulting in an altercation with cemetery staff.”

“Let me be clear: the former president disrespected sacred ground, all for the sake of a political stunt,” she claimed, before adding that she would “never politicize” such an event.

The Gold Star family members maintained that they had asked Trump for photographs, as opposed to Trump taking pictures to advance his campaign. In one video, the father of Marine Lance Cpl. Jared Schmitz called Harris’ post “heinous, vile and disgusting.”

“Why did we want Trump there? It wasn’t to help his political campaign,” Mark Schmitz said in the video. “We wanted a leader. That explains why you and Joe didn’t get a call.”

Darren Hoover, the father of Marine Staff Sgt. Taylor Hoover, said that Harris lacks “empathy and basic understanding” about Monday’s event, and stressed that Trump’s appearance was respectful.

RFK Jr. sues North Carolina to remove name from ballot before election

A week after Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. suspended his third-party presidential campaign and endorsed former President Trump, he filed a lawsuit against the North Carolina State Board of Elections to get his name removed from the state’s ballot before November.

When he suspended his campaign, Kennedy said he planned to keep his name on the ballot in safe Democratic and Republican states but didn’t want to be a spoiler in the battleground states.

Recent polls have shown a close race between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris in North Carolina.

Kennedy’s lawsuit comes not long after he had been trying to get on the North Carolina ballot over the summer by seeking signatures for his We the People party.

On Thursday, in a 3-2 vote, the elections board denied Kennedy’s request to have him removed there, arguing that nearly 2 million ballots have already been printed in 67 of 100 counties, and it would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to redo them with the first deadline for absentee ballots on Sept. 6.

“When we talk about printing a ballot, we are not talking about … pressing ‘copy’ on a Xerox machine. This is a much more complex and layered process,” Board Executive Director Karen Brinson Bell said.

“With the November election looming and ballot deadlines fast-approaching, Kennedy has no choice but to turn to this Court for immediate relief,” his lawsuit said.

It added that the election board’s decision violated his speech and state election law, The Charlotte Observer reported.

Kennedy dropped out of the race and claimed he could still become president if neither Trump nor Harris reached 270 electoral votes. On Aug. 23, he joined Trump onstage at their first rally together.

“Don’t you want a president who’s going to protect America’s freedoms and who is going to protect us against totalitarianism?” Kennedy said at a rally in Glendale, Arizona.

“Don’t you want a safe environment for your children? Don’t you want to know that the food that you’re feeding them is not filled with chemicals that are going to give them cancer and chronic disease? And don’t you want a president that’s going to make America healthy again?”

Kennedy’s office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Harris slams Trump over Arlington National Cemetery altercation, prompting response from JD Vance

Vice President Kamala Harris slammed former President Trump after an incident involving his staff and a cemetery official this week, prompting a critical response from Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance.

On Thursday, an Army spokesperson said an Arlington National Cemetery official was “abruptly pushed aside” while interacting with Trump’s staff during a wreath-laying ceremony event Monday. The ceremony honored service members killed by ISIS-K terrorists Aug. 26, 2021, during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.

The U.S. Army said in a statement the employee was making sure that Trump’s team was “made aware of federal laws, Army regulations and DoD policies, which clearly prohibit political activities on cemetery grounds.” Trump claimed he took photographs with families of service members who had requested them.

“[President] Joe Biden killed those young people because he was incompetent,” Trump said during a speech in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Friday. “And then they tell me that I used their graves for public relations services, and I didn’t.”

In a statement posted on Facebook Saturday afternoon, Harris accused Trump’s team of disrespecting service members.

“As Vice President, I have had the privilege of visiting Arlington National Cemetery several times,” the statement from the Democratic presidential nominee said. “It is a solemn place; a place where we come together to honor American heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service of this nation. It is not a place for politics.

“And yet, as was reported this week, Donald Trump’s team chose to film a video there, resulting in an altercation with cemetery staff,” Harris added. “Let me be clear: the former president disrespected sacred ground, all for the sake of a political stunt.”

Harris claimed the incident was “nothing new” from Trump and accused the former president of “call[ing] our fallen service members ‘suckers’ and ‘losers’ and disparage[ing] Medal of Honor recipients.”

“This is a man who is unable to comprehend anything other than service to himself,” Harris added, before promising to “never politicize” service members.

The statement was met with swift backlash from Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance, who suggested Harris “get off social media.”
