2024 Cash Dash: Harris fundraising surge more than doubles Trump’s haul last month

Vice President Kamala Harris raked in a staggering $310 million in fundraising in July, her campaign announced on Friday morning, in what it touted was “the biggest haul of the 2024 cycle.”

The fundraising by the Democratic Party’s presumptive presidential nominee was more than double the $138.7 million that Donald Trump’s campaign announced on Thursday that the former president brought in last month.

Harris has enjoyed a fundraising surge in the 12 days since President Biden, in a blockbuster announcement, ended his re-election campaign and endorsed his vice president to succeed him at the top of the Democratic Party’s ticket.

The embattled president’s immediate backing of Harris ignited a slew of endorsements for the vice president by Democratic governors, senators, House members and other party leaders. Within 36 hours, Harris announced that she had locked up her party’s nomination by landing the verbal backing of a majority of the nearly 4,000 delegates to this month’s Democratic National Convention.

The Harris campaign, in announcing their July fundraising, highlighted that more than $200 million was brought in during the first week after the vice president replaced Biden. They called it the “single greatest week in fundraising history” and touted that July was the “best grassroots fundraising month in presidential history.”

According to the Harris campaign, two-thirds of the monthly haul came from first-time donors. And they also highlighted that they were sitting on a massive $377 million war chest as of the end of July.

HARRIS LEANS IN ON BORDER SECURITY AND TRUMP RELISHES THE FIGHT

The July fundraising, by what started out as the Biden campaign and quickly transformed into the Harris campaign, is up from the healthy $127 million that the Biden-Harris ticket brought in during the month of June. Nearly $40 million of that haul came at the end of the month, after Biden’s disastrous June 27th debate performance against Trump.

In a sign of support for the 81-year-old president, donors initially shelled out big bucks for Biden in the wake of the debate.

But Biden’s halting and shaky debate delivery also instantly fueled questions about his physical and mental abilities to serve another four years in the White House – and spurred a rising chorus of calls from within his own party for the president to end his bid for a second term in the White House. The brief surge in fundraising didn’t last and by early July, began to significantly slow down.

Meanwhile, Trump’s July haul was an increase of over $25 million from the $112 million the former president brought in during the month of June.

2024 AD WARS: TRUMP, HARRIS RACE TO DEFINE VICE PRESIDENT

The Trump campaign also reported $327 million cash-on-hand as of the end of July and said in a statement that “these numbers reflect continued momentum with donors at every level and provide the resources for the final 96 days until victory November 5th.”

Trump, in a social media post a couple of hours later, pointed to his fundraising and said, “Spectacular support from Great American Patriots who are donating to our Campaign for President of the United States.”

Early last week, the Harris campaign touted that they hauled in $81 million in the 24 hours following Biden’s announcement that he was suspending his campaign.

The one-day haul easily topped the nearly $53 million Trump brought in two months ago in the first 24 hours after the former president was convicted on 34 felony counts in his criminal trial in New York City.

The Biden campaign and the Democratic National Committee enjoyed a fundraising lead over Trump and the Republican National Committee earlier this year. But Trump and the RNC topped Biden and the DNC $331 million to $264 million during the April-June second quarter of 2024 fundraising.

Fundraising, along with polling, is a key metric in campaign politics and a measure of a candidate’s popularity and their campaign’s strength. The money raised can be used – among other things – to hire staff, expand grassroots outreach and get-out-the-vote efforts, pay to produce and run ads on TV, radio, digital and mailers, and for candidate travel.

FIRST ON FOX: Nearly the entire Republican Senate conference came together to denounce President Biden’s administration for what they describe as a “partial arms embargo against Israel” as the country’s war with terrorist group Hamas continues.

Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., led his GOP colleagues in sharp criticism of the president, telling Biden that he “emboldened” enemies of Israel ahead of a recent attack on its northern border by Hezbollah that saw the death of 12 children and teens. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., was the only Senate Republican who did not sign on.

The Hezbollah rocket strike hit a soccer field in northern Israel on Saturday. In addition to the deaths, there were 29 more children and teens who were injured.

Republicans noted in the letter to Biden that this was “the single deadliest attack on that part of the country since October 7.”

In May, it was revealed that the Biden administration had put a hold on 1,800 2,000-pound bombs and 1,700 500-pound bombs. The hold came as a result of a review of “proposed transfers of particular weapons to Israel that might be used in Rafah” in Gaza where the administration was actively discouraging a ground invasion by Israel.

The State Department said in June that a shipment of 2,000-pound bombs to Israel was still under review.

Last month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called out the Biden administration for the weapons delay, saying, “It’s inconceivable that in the past few months the administration has been withholding weapons and ammunitions to Israel.”

“Give us the tools, and we’ll finish the job a lot faster,” he urged Biden.

“The ultimate responsibility for this attack rests with Hezbollah and the ayatollahs in Iran,” the Republican conference said. “However, while Tehran financed the attack and Hezbollah conducted it, your fear of escalation has left Israel exposed and our enemies emboldened.”

According to the senators, the administration’s actions “run counter to our long history of robust military cooperation with Israel and cast doubt upon the reliability of the United States as a long-term security partner.”

The delay in weapons shipments further goes against the will of Congress, they pointed out. Earlier this year, lawmakers passed a $95 billion supplemental foreign aid package with assistance for Israel, Ukraine and the Indo-Pacific.

Senator Tom Cotton

They slammed the president for failing to address past inquiries from Congress regarding the weapons shipments.

“You ignored Congressional inquiries, including a May 6, 2024, letter from Senator Marshall, a May 6, 2024, letter from Senator Ernst, a May 6, 2024, letter from Senator Marshall, a May 14, 2024, letter from Senator Risch and a June 20, 2024, letter from Senator Cotton,” the Republicans listed.

“Your stalling tactics are endangering our greatest ally in the Middle East and jeopardizing the lives of our American servicemembers (sic) stationed in the region,” they warned.

The Republican senators concluded by urging Biden to use every tool at his disposal to “expedite the physical delivery of all weapons and ammunition to Israel, that have been approved by Congress.”

White House takes full credit for freeing Americans wrongfully detained in Russia: ‘Vintage Joe Biden’

National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan on Thursday gave President Biden full credit for the safe return of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and other Americans wrongfully detained in Russia.

Sullivan took the podium at the daily White House press briefing after the Biden-Harris administration announced a massive swap of political prisoners between the United States and Russia.

“Today’s exchange is a feat of diplomacy that, honestly, could only be achieved by a leader like Joe Biden and his direction,” Sullivan told reporters.

Three American citizens — Gershkovich, former Marine Paul Whelan and Russian-American journalist Alsu Kurmasheva — were freed from Russian custody along with one American green-card holder, Vladimir Kara-Murza, and a dozen others. Sullivan shared that Biden had been “personally engaged” in diplomatic efforts to bring those Americans home, including multiple conversations with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and leaders of other countries who provided Russian prisoners for the exchange.

U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan speaks during the daily briefing in the Brady Briefing Room of the White House in Washington, D.C., on August 1, 2024. The U.S. had been working on a deal that would have freed detained Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny when he died in Russian custody, the White House said Thursday. “We had been working with our partners on a deal that would have included Alexei Navalny, and unfortunately, he died,” Sullivan told journalists. The White House confirmed that Biden had a phone call with the prime minster of Slovenia on Sunday, July 21, to make final arrangements for the deal to fall in place.

“There is no more singular or concrete demonstration that the alliances that the president has reinvigorated around the world matter to Americans, to the individual safety of Americans, and to the collective security of Americans. And we’re deeply grateful to our allies who supported us in these complex negotiations to achieve this outcome,” Sullivan said.

He added that Biden was reaching out to the leaders of Germany, Poland, Slovenia, Norway and Turkey as he spoke to thank them for their part in putting the deal together.

“This was vintage Joe Biden, rallying American allies to save American citizens and Russian freedom fighters, and doing it with intricate statecraft, pulling his whole team together to drive this across the finish line,” Sullivan said, noting the president maintained regular contact with the families of those detained as he worked for their release.

Gershkovich, 32, was arrested on March 29, 2023, while reporting on a trip to the Ural Mountains city of Yekaterinburg and was accused of espionage. The Biden administration declared him “wrongfully detained,” and The Wall Street Journal and U.S. government both emphatically denied the charges, calling them absurd on their face.

Whelan languished in Russian custody for years. A well-placed source told Fox News that Turkish intelligence officials played a key role in mediating the prisoner swap.

“His goal has always been to put the families first, the families who are enduring an unimaginable ordeal,” Sullivan said of Biden.

“From the president on down, we’ve stayed in regular and routine touch with them. I spent a lot of time with the families of Evan and Paul and Alsu, and most of the time, as you can imagine, those are tough conversations. But not today,” he said, becoming emotional.

“Today was a very good day, and we’re going to build on it.”

As Sullivan spoke, former President Trump weighed in on Truth Social, demanding to know the details of the prisoner exchange.

Trump wrote: “How many people do we get versus them? Are we also paying them cash? Are they giving us cash (Please withdraw that question, because I’m sure the answer is NO)? Are we releasing murderers, killers, or thugs?”

“Just curious because we never make good deals, at anything, but especially hostage swaps,” the Republican nominee for president continued. “Our ‘negotiators’ are always an embarrassment to us! I got back many hostages, and gave the opposing Country NOTHING – and never any cash. To do so is bad precedent for the future. That’s the way it should be, or this situation will get worse and worse. They are extorting the United States of America. They’re calling the trade ‘complex’ – That’s so nobody can figure out how bad it is!”

Sullivan told reporters that no money or sanctions relief was tied to the prisoner exchange.

He also addressed concerns that the prisoner exchange could incentivize U.S. adversaries to wrongfully detain more Americans, arguing that freeing innocents is worth the price.

“It is difficult to send back a convicted criminal to secure the release of an innocent American. And yet, sometimes the choice is between doing that and consigning that person basically to live out their days in prison in a hostile foreign country, or in the hands of a hostile power,” Sullivan said.

“So from our perspective, we have assessed and analyzed that risk, and we have judged that the benefit of reuniting Americans and bringing people home, and also of vindicating the idea that the American president and the American government are going to do what it takes to protect and secure the release of innocent Americans, that that benefit outweighs the risk.”

Ex-Marine leads plea for Congress to hear exiled Afghan resistance leader’s warnings

A retired Recon Marine who conducted civilian rescues within Afghanistan, a former Navy SEAL and an ex-Pentagon chief are among the figures clamoring for Congress to hear from a top Afghan resistance leader and to stop directly or indirectly financially backing the Taliban government there.

Around the time of the U.S.’ withdrawal, National Resistance Front (NRF) leader Ahmad Massoud returned to the Panjshir Valley in northern Afghanistan.

There, elements opposed to Taliban rule stuck it out until they were forced to flee — including Massoud, who escaped to neighboring Tajikistan. He reportedly was joined by at least one official from the deposed U.S.-backed democratic government: former Vice President Amrullah Saleh.

Saleh sought refuge in Dushanbe, the Tajik capital, as of 2021, according to France24 News.

REPUBLICANS FUME OVER REPORT BILLIONS OF AFGHAN HUMANITARIAN AID IS FUNDING TALIBAN

According to Chad Robichaux, who took part in perilous civilian rescue operations in Afghanistan — including the evacuation of his former interpreter Aziz, who faced execution by the Taliban — Massoud has since been recognized as the de facto opposition figure-in-exile.

“Massoud is leading all of our allies of the last 20 years, all the people we left behind; our commandos, our interpreters, all the ones that chose to resist and then continue to fight…” Robichaux said. “We’ve completely abandoned him and our allies and the Afghan people.”

Robichaux said the U.S. government essentially “switched teams” in the middle of the fight by allowing the Taliban to return to power.

He pointed to reports that billions of dollars of U.S. taxpayer funds have gone to the Taliban, including through United Nations humanitarian appropriations that are majority funded by the U.S.

“[O]ur allies are trying to prevent a terrorist attack on the United States. But, you know, meanwhile, we’re funding it. It’s insane,” Robichaux said, adding that Massoud may have information helpful to preventing another terror attack like 9/11 on U.S. soil.

Robichaux added that Massoud’s father — of the same name — was the top anti-Soviet leader who helped the West battle the Taliban in Afghanistan decades ago.

Robichaux said Usama bin Laden had Massoud assassinated in the near-term prior to 9/11 because the terrorist knew the U.S. would need an allied figure in Afghanistan if they wanted to take on the Taliban.

“Twenty years later, his son is saying the same thing. There’s a pending attack on the United States. You guys are sending money to the Taliban, and they’re training a terrorist group to attack the United States,” Robichaux said.

He went on to claim Massoud has been subject to an ambiguous “blacklist” from visiting the U.S. Therefore, Robichaux said, it is imperative that congressional leaders visit the Middle East to meet with him.

Fox News Digital reached out to the State Department to confirm or deny the blacklist claim.

Massoud himself said the international community has conducted a policy of appeasement toward the Taliban government, which has failed to help the situation.

“We haven’t seen the Taliban relent on even one issue,” Massoud said. “This policy will have global consequences as it allows the Taliban to buy time and achieve its goals with the 21 other regional and global terror networks.”

ahmad massoud in afghanistan

“For a peaceful world, a more realistic policy that benefits both the people of Afghanistan and prevents a global security crisis must be adopted. We must emphasize the support of the international community and the USA for a legitimate and democratic government solely based on the will and vote of Afghanistan’s citizens,” he said.

When asked about the safety of lawmakers, should they agree to host Massoud abroad, Robichaux said another proponent of the petition, retired SEAL and podcast host Shawn Ryan, was able to do so in Austria as a civilian.

Fox News Digital also reached out to House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., ahead of the petition’s formal delivery to inquire about the prospect of Congress meeting with Massoud, but did not hear back by press time.

According to the petition, which lists Ryan as primary author, Massoud’s testimony would shed light on the true situation in Afghanistan and better inform congressional decisionmaking and allocation of funding in the region.

“Moreover, Congress should redirect its financial support towards the NRF, restoring their critical logistical and aid support,” the petition demands.

Ryan previously interviewed Massoud on his podcast, and said the conversation “shows he is one of the brave few continuing to fight for the future and stability of Afghanistan… His voice needs to be heard by Congress.”

Later in his interview, Robichaux said there is one potential development that would render his concerns with the State Department moot: the election of former President Trump.

Robichaux said Trump has long indicated his aversion to assuaging malign regimes, and was confident he would find a way to stop U.S. funds ending up in Taliban hands.

“If there’s a threat to the United States, [Trump] would let our Central Intelligence Agency do their job,” he said.

Christopher Miller, Trump’s former defense secretary, claimed about $87 million in U.S taxpayer dollars per week are ending up in Taliban hands.

“[These are] the very same people that killed over 2,400 of our warriors and wounded another 21,000-plus and sheltered the leader of Al Qaeda — is beyond comprehension and the definition of criminal negligence,” Miller said in calling for Congress to hear directly from Massoud.

At least one House lawmaker also agreed on the need for Massoud to brief Congress.

Rep. Eli Crane, R-Ariz., a former military sniper, said Massoud could shed light on a part of the world “deeply embroiled in chaos; only made worse by the current administration.”

Trump replies to DA Bragg in case to get conviction tossed in light of Supreme Court immunity decision

Former President Donald Trump has filed a reply brief in his case to have his conviction in N.Y. v Trump overturned after the Supreme Court ruled presidents have some immunity for official acts in office.

Trump was found guilty in an unprecedented criminal trial last month on all counts of falsifying business records in the first degree, following a six-week trial stemming from Bragg’s investigation. Trump has already requested Judge Juan Merchan overturn the verdict.

TRUMP’S APPEAL TO LIFT REMAINING PARTS OF NY GAG ORDER DENIED

In the filing Thursday, lawyers for Trump argued that “The Supreme Court of the United States ruled conclusively and unequivocally that President Trump is protected by immunity for his official acts.”

“In this case, a politically motivated district attorney violated that immunity by using official-acts evidence in grand jury proceedings and at trial. Therefore, the case must be dismissed, and the jury’s verdicts must be vacated.”

The Supreme Court ruled in Trump v. United States that a former president has substantial immunity from prosecution for official acts in office but not for unofficial acts. The high court said Trump is immune from criminal prosecution for “official acts” but left it to the lower court to determine exactly where the line between official and unofficial is.

Alvin Bragg

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – MARCH 21: Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

“The President therefore may not be prosecuted for exercising his core constitutional powers, and he is entitled, at a minimum, to a presumptive immunity from prosecution for all his official acts,” the majority opinion written by Chief Justice John Roberts states. “That immunity applies equally to all occupants of the Oval Office, regardless of politics, policy, or party.”

TRUMP TOUTS SUPREME COURT’S PRESIDENTIAL IMMUNITY RULING AS ‘BIG WIN FOR OUR CONSTITUTION AND FOR DEMOCRACY’

The question of presidential immunity stemmed from special counsel Jack Smith’s Jan. 6 case against Trump. Trump pleaded not guilty to those charges. That trial was put on hold in a lower court pending the Supreme Court’s ruling, which wiped out any charges related to official presidential acts.

Trump attorney Todd Blanche, in the filing Thursday, argued that Bragg offered official acts evidence during the six-week-long unprecedented criminal trial. Blanche said that included official White House communications with staffers like Hope Hicks, Madeleine Westerhout, and more.

Blanche also said Trump’s official public statements made via Twitter were used as evidence; his official acts in response to inquiries by the Federal Election Commission; official acts relating to inquiries by Congress and prosecutors; and more.

“President Trump was subjected to fundamentally unfair proceedings that invited jurors to examine official-acts evidence based on ‘their views of the President’s policies and performance while in office,’” Blanche wrote. “This fundamental unfairness also harms the public because of the adverse impact of these violations on the work of future Presidents to serve the American people.”

He added: “For the reasons set forth in the Defense Motion and herein, the Court should dismiss the Indictment and vacate the jury’s verdicts based on violations of the Presidential immunity doctrine and the Supremacy Clause.”

Judge Juan Merchan, last month, agreed to Trump’s request to delay his original sentencing date, July 11, and said that a hearing on Trump’s potential sentencing would take place Sept. 18.

House Freedom Caucus chair ousted by Trump-backed challenger in Republican primary showdown

It took six weeks to determine, but House Freedom Caucus chair Rep. Bob Good of Virginia was defeated in his bid for renomination by a challenger supported by former President Trump.

John McGuire, a Virginia state senator and former Navy SEAL backed by Trump, will win the Republican primary in Virginia’s reliably red 5th Congressional District, in the southern part of the Commonwealth. ‘

McGuire came out on top in a recount conducted Tuesday. Election officials certified that McGuire won the June primary election by 374 votes out of nearly 63,000 ballots cast, or six-tenths of a percentage point.

But because McGuire’s victory margin in the primary was less than one percent, Good was able to seek a recount. But he had to pay for the recount, because the margin was greater than half a percent.

Good becomes the first House Republican incumbent this election cycle to be ousted by a primary challenger, in a contentious intra-party primary battle that pitted conservatives versus conservatives and Trump against some of his biggest allies in the House of Representatives.

Good incurred Trump’s wrath for being one of just a handful of House Republicans to endorse Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in the GOP presidential primaries.

Even though the two-term congressman avoided criticizing Turmp and quickly endorsed the former president after DeSantis ended his White House bid in January, Trump wrote on this Truth Social platform that “the damage has been done!”

The former president in May endorsed McGuire, who also had the backing of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, a conservative firebrand and major Trump ally who is a vocal critic of Good who last year broke with the House Freedom Caucus. The group is considered the most far-right organization of lawmakers in the chamber.

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy also targeted Good, who was one of eight Republicans last autumn who joined with Democrats to vote to oust McCarthy from his leadership position.

However, Good had the support of Reps. Matt Gaetz and Byron Donalds of Florida, two conservatives who are also strong backers of Trump.

Additionally, fellow House Freedom Caucus members, Reps. Chip Roy of Texas and Andy Biggs of Arizona, joined Good in Virginia for a rally on Friday.

Even though he was targeted by Trump, Good spotlighted his support for the former president as he ran for re-election.

“Happy Birthday to the best and next president of the United States, President Trump!” Good wrote on social media on Friday, on the former president’s 78th birthday.

Good also showed up earlier this spring at Trump’s criminal trial in New York City, to show his support for the former president.

Vance border speech hits Harris in latest barrage of attacks between campaigns on migrant crisis

The crisis at the southern border has become a centerpiece of the 2024 presidential race, as GOP vice presidential candidate Sen. JD Vance of Ohio hit out at Vice President Kamala Harris at the border on Thursday over her handling of the crisis — days after her campaign sought to draw a contrast between her and former President Trump on the hot-button issue.

“It’s hard to believe until you see it with your own eyes, just how bad the policies of the Kamala Harris administration have been when it comes to the southern border,” Vance said in Cochise County, Arizona. “They started their administration, Kamala Harris came into office… they stopped deportations on day one. They stopped construction of the border wall.”

Vance tapped into Republican arguments about how the Biden administration ended what they see as successful Trump-era policies and unleashed havoc at the border.

“We see the border wall sitting here, ready to be completed behind us. And that can’t happen because of Kamala Harris’ administration. They reinstated catch-and-release and they stopped Remain in Mexico,” he continued. “So all these asylum claimants who come to our border, they can now get released into our country because they’re not forced to stay in Mexico while we adjudicate their asylum claims.”

Vance also described securing the border as “not rocket science.”

“You just have to re-implement some commonsense policies. You’ve got to re-implement Remain in Mexico. You’ve got to stop catch-and-release,” he said. “You’ve got to force these asylum seekers to stay in Mexico while their claims are being adjudicated. And you’ve got to finish this border wall and re-implement deportations.”

Vance’s border visit came after former President Trump also said he will visit the border before November, potentially multiple times.

Republicans have hammered Harris on the southern border, given not only the crisis there but Harris’ leadership in international diplomacy on root causes, which led to her being dubbed the “border czar” by the media and Republicans.

But Harris has pushed back, highlighting an endorsement by a group of mayors in Arizona border towns “praising her long record of fighting to secure the border and fix our broken immigration system, including her work going after transnational gangs smuggling weapons and drugs as California Attorney General and bringing border crossings to their lowest level in years with tough border policies in the White House.”

This week, Harris released an ad contrasting her support of a bipartisan border package unveiled in the Senate which would have increased border funding and placed some limits on entries into the U.S. The Biden administration has said it would help tackle the border crisis, but Trump and his allies killed it off.

FLASHBACK: HARRIS FUMED AT AMERICANS FOR SAYING ‘MERRY CHRISTMAS’ BEFORE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS GOT PROTECTIONS

The video argued that Harris “helped lead the way to record low border crossings and has spent her entire career keeping our communities safe,” and charged that Trump “sided with drug traffickers and the cartels to block the strongest, fairest reforms to secure the border in decades.”

The Trump campaign instantly pilloried the video.

“Every statement in Kamala’s border ad is an absolute lie. The truth is that President Trump handed the most secure border in history to the Biden-Harris Administration, and they opened it up by erasing every one of his good policies,” the Trump campaign charged. “As Border Czar, Kamala Harris has overseen the worst immigration crisis in American history, enabling drug cartels to smuggle deadly fentanyl across our border and allowing more than 11 million illegal criminals and terrorists from all over the world to enter our country.”

Harris criticized Trump at a rally in Atlanta earlier this week, saying he “has been talking a big game about securing our border, but he does not walk the walk.”

She charged that the former president “tanked the bipartisan deal because he thought it would help him win an election” and pledged that “as the president I will bring back the border security bill that Donald Trump killed.”

Sen. Marsha Blackburn took home Tennessee’s Republican Senate primary on Thursday, likely securing the senate seat in the process in the heavily-Republican state. Blackburn led Thursday’s primary with almost 93% of the vote over Tres Wittum, at the time the race was called by the Associated Press.

Blackburn, the incumbent senator, was largely seen as the favorite in the race heading in, having won her first race for Senate in 2018 over former Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen by 11 points.

Blackburn’s lone challenger was Wittum, a former Tennessee legislative staffer who finished last in a primary bid for the state’s 5th Congressional District in 2022.

Blackburn will now move on to face off with Democratic state Sen. Gloria Johnson.

Johnson rose to fame last year after being one of three members of the Tennessee legislature to stage a protest on the state House floor in the aftermath of a shooting at an elementary school. She was dubbed as a member of the “Tennessee Three,” being joined in the protest by fellow Reps. Justin Pearson and Justin Jones, both Democrats.

The protests, which violated House rules, resulted in the expulsion of both Pearson and Jones, who were later reappointed and easily won special elections to regain their seats.

Blackburn will now likely be the favorite in November’s general election, with Tennessee having leaned heavily Republican in statewide elections in recent years.

Blackburn’s Tennessee colleague, Republican Sen. Bill Hagerty, was reelected in 2020 by about 30 points, while Republican Gov. Bill Lee was able to secure reelection in 2022 by over 30 points.

Former President Donald Trump also easily won the state in 2016 and 2020, taking Tennessee by 26 and 23 points, respectively.

House Freedom Caucus member who tried to impeach Kamala Harris wins high-profile Tennessee GOP primary

A first-term member of the ultra-conservative House Freedom Caucus, won his first primary as an incumbent on Thursday evening.

Rep. Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., fended off a challenge from Nashville Metro Council member Courtney Johnston, who ran a more moderate campaign compared to the freshman Republican.

It was a much-needed political victory for the Freedom Caucus this election cycle after its chairman, Rep. Bob Good, R-Va., narrowly lost re-election in June and is facing long odds in a recount held Thursday.

Good had been facing Republican challenger John McGuire, who was backed by House GOP national security hawks like House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mike Rogers, R-Ala., and Reps. Jen Kiggans, R-Va.; and Ryan Zinke, R-Mont., among others.

Johnston had narrowly outraised Ogles, according to financial disclosures. Her receipts through July 12 show her raising nearly $785,000 in individual contributions compared to Ogles’ total – just over $500,000.

She also tried to tie him to Good and seven other Republicans’ successful effort to oust ex-Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., last October – though Ogles was not one of the eight who voted to end McCarthy’s leadership.

“I think the incumbent has caused chaos. The ouster of McCarthy was an absolute abomination, really. Not only for the Republican Party, but really for Congress as a whole,” she told local outlet WPLN.

Ogles had the backing of top national Republicans, however, including former President Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La.

“Andy is working hard to Grow the Economy, Stop Inflation, Secure our Southern Border, Uphold the Rule of Law, and Defend our Second Amendment,” Trump wrote on Truth Social in May. “I was proud to help Andy flip a Democrat seat in 2022, and he has my Complete and Total Endorsement for re-election. He will not let you down!”

Under its current lines, however, the seat leans red – residents of the district voted for Trump over President Biden in 2020 by just over 10 points.

State Rep. Gloria Johnson wins high-profile Democratic senate primary in Tennessee

State Rep. Gloria Johnson emerged the victor in Tennessee’s closely watched Democratic Senate primary and will take on incumbent Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn in November’s election.

Johnson took home the victory by garnering 74% of the vote over challengers Marquita Bradshaw, Civil Miller-Watkins and Lola Brown, at the time the race was called by the Associated Press Thursday night.

KAMALA HARRIS EYES GOVERNORS FROM BATTLEGROUND STATES AS POSSIBLE VP PICKS

The race garnered interest from Democrats nationwide after Johnson, who was seen as the front-runner in the race, attracted widespread attention last year by staging a protest on the floor of the Republican-controlled state House in the aftermath of a deadly shooting at a Tennessee elementary school.

Johnson’s protest was joined by two other lawmakers, state Reps. Justin Pearson and Justin Jones, both Democrats, who together became known as the “Tennessee Three.” Pearson and Jones were both expelled for violating House rules after the protest, though they were later reappointed.

Johnson’s toughest primary challenger was thought to be Bradshaw, an environmental activist who secured the party’s nomination in 2020 before being soundly defeated by incumbent Republican Sen. Bill Hagerty.

Johnson will now have an uphill climb in the heavily Republican-leaning state. Blackburn won her race in 2018 by 11 points, while Hagerty defeated Bradshaw by a whopping 30 points in 2020. Two years later, incumbent Republican Gov. Bill Lee won reelection by more than 30 points as well, while former President Donald Trump carried the state in both 2016 and 2020 by 26 and 23 points, respectively.

Blackburn is a heavy favorite in her own primary against former Tennessee legislative staffer Tres Wittum, the only challenger to the incumbent Republican.

Blackburn also has a significant fundraising advantage over all the state’s senate hopefuls, having close to $9 million cash on hand. Johnson, meanwhile, has raised about $5 million and still has over $2 million on hand.

But Johnson has expressed optimism that Blackburn can be defeated, arguing that Democrats can win by focusing on issues such as abortion, gun control, and the environment.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, one of the front-runners to be Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate, has canceled three appearances at weekend fund-raising events in the Hamptons, a cluster of wealthy New York towns.

The cancelations came just days before Harris is expected to announce her running mate at a Philadelphia rally on Tuesday. It was unclear why the trips were canceled.

“The governor’s trip was planned several weeks ago and included several fund-raisers for his own campaign committee,” Manuel Bonder, a spokesman for Shapiro, told The New York Times. “His schedule has changed, and he is no longer traveling to the Hamptons this weekend.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to Shapiro’s office.

One of the events was a “summer soiree” to be held for The Next 50, a liberal youth-advocacy organization, where Shapiro, 51, was marketed as a “special guest,” the Times reported.

Shapiro’s potential VP candidacy has come under scrutiny. The National Women’s Defense League is urging Harris to think twice about choosing Shapiro because of how he handled a sexual harassment case in his office involving former cabinet secretary Mike Vereb.

“Governor Shapiro’s office should have done a better job preventing sexual harassment happening in his own office by former cabinet secretary Mike Vereb, including protecting the survivor who bravely came forward, ensuring that any other potential survivors felt safe in speaking up, and ensuring the harasser didn’t have the opportunity to do further harm after the complaint,” NWDL Director Emma Davidson Tribbs said in a statement.

“As the Harris Campaign and the Democratic Party consider their options for Vice Presidential candidates, we urge them to consider the handling of past complaints of sexual harassment inside the Pennsylvania Governor’s office,” Tribbs added. “The American people deserve to know that, if called to a higher office, Governor Shapiro will do more to ensure the safety and dignity of employees, volunteers and constituents in his office.

Vereb stepped down in September 2023 after Shapiro’s administration quietly agreed to pay $295,000 to settle claims from a governor’s office employee who said Vereb made unwanted sexual advances toward her and spoke openly about her, other staff members, and a female state senator, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

“Although the Commonwealth does not comment on specific personnel matters, it takes allegations of discrimination and harassment seriously,” Bonder told Fox News in a statement.

Jordan investigates daughter of judge in NY v. Trump case over her work for Kamala Harris, Democrats

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan is investigating the daughter of the judge who presided over former President Trump’s criminal trial for her past work for Vice President Kamala Harris, Fox News Digital has learned.

Fox News Digital has obtained a letter Jordan, R-Ohio, sent to Loren Merchan, the daughter of Judge Juan Merchan who presided over New York v. Trump. A jury found Trump guilty on all counts of falsifying business records in the first degree. Trump has requested Merchan overturn that verdict.

TRUMP FILES MOTION REQUESTING JUDGE IN HUSH MONEY TRIAL BE RECUSED AMID DAUGHTER’S DEMOCRAT-AFFILIATED WORK

Prior to the start of the trial, Trump’s legal team urged Judge Merchan to recuse himself from the case due to his daughter’s work for Democrat-affiliated political work for a firm called Authentic Campaigns, Inc. Trump lawyers said the company “services exclusively Democrat clients” and is “the #21 ranked vendor in the country in connection with the 2024 election.”

Trump lawyers, at the time, said Loren Merchan “has a direct financial interest in these proceedings by virtue of her ownership stake and leadership role at Authentic Campaigns, Inc.”

The company’s featured clients include top Democrats – such as President Biden and now-Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kalama Harris.

In a letter to Loren Merchan Thursday, obtained by Fox News Digital, Jordan highlighted her work related to Harris.

“During your time working on behalf of Vice President Harris, Authentic Campaigns received over $7 million in compensation for its services,” he wrote. “According to your now-deleted LinkedIn, after Vice President Harris dropped out of the Democrat primary, you were promoted to President of Authentic Campaigns.”

TRUMP’S APPEAL TO LIFT REMAINING PARTS OF NY GAG ORDER DENIED

“Authentic Campaigns then conducted work for the 2020 Biden-Harris campaign, which included “digital paid media, design and development, social media, mobile messaging, [and] artificial intelligence,” Jordan continued.

Based on the funds collected by the firm through its work with top Democrats – also including Rep. Adam Schiff and the Senate Majority PAC – Jordan said “at a minimum, there is a perception that you and Authentic Campaigns could profit considerably from President Trump’s prosecution in a forum overseen by your father.”

Jordan is now demanding Loren Merchan turn over “all contracts and invoices referring or relating to work performed by Authentic Campaigns” for work on behalf of the Biden campaign, the Harris campaign, or the Democratic National Committee from the period of Jan. 1, 2023 to the present.

He is also demanding “all documents and communications between or among Authentic Campaigns or any of its employees, agents, or representatives, the Biden for President campaign, or the Harris for President campaign referring or relating to the indictment, prosecution, or conviction of President Donald J. Trump for the period April 1, 2023, to the present.”

He is also asking for records related to any work the company performed related to Trump’s indictment, prosecution or commitment, and communications with her father, Judge Juan Merchan, related to the indictment, prosecution or conviction of Trump.

Jordan gave her a deadline of August 8 to comply with his request.

The request comes as part of the House Judiciary Committee’s investigation into “politically motivated prosecutions by state and local officials.”

Flashback: Harris fumed at Americans for saying ‘Merry Christmas’ before illegal migrants got protections

Then-Sen. Kamala Harris warned Americans not to say “Merry Christmas” until there was permanent status for some illegal immigrants — amid a Trump-era battle over protections for some illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children.

“And when we all sing happy tunes, and sing Merry Christmas, and wish each other Merry Christmas, these children are not going to have a Merry Christmas. How dare we speak Merry Christmas. How dare we? They will not have a Merry Christmas,” she said at a 2017 press conference, a video of which was obtained by Fox News Digital.

Speakers pushed for the passage of the Dream Act, which would grant a pathway to citizenship for some illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as minors, NBC News reported.

BORDER SENATOR EYED AS VP PICK COULD HELP HARRIS WITH KEY WEAKNESS

Harris made the remarks in December 2017 at a press conference after then-President Trump had announced the end of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which shielded some illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as minors from deportation. Harris said it was “morally wrong” to take away the existing protections for those protected by the Obama-era executive order.

Trump had called for Congress to act to come to a deal that would extend those protections coupled with tougher enforcement, including the construction of a wall at the southern border.

But, as Congress struggled to reach a deal, liberal activists and Democrats warned that the illegal immigrants were now facing uncertainty over Christmas as their protections would go away.

KAMALA HARRIS AND THE SOUTHERN BORDER CRISIS: A TIMELINE

“They don’t know if they will be here in a matter of days, weeks and months,” Harris said. “Since Sept. 5, over 12,000 have lost their status… And for that reason, we must get this done, and we must get it done before the end of this year. No January, no February, no March, now.”

Harris, both as a presidential candidate and as vice president, would call for a pathway to citizenship for a broader population of illegal immigrants, including those who came to the U.S. as children as well as farm workers, Temporary Protected Status recipients and others.

The Biden administration on day one introduced a sweeping immigration reform bill that includes such a pathway to citizenship. Officials including Harris have continually pushed for that bill to be passed by Congress, but Republicans have balked at that proposal, particularly during the ongoing crisis at the southern border.

Harris has come under attack for her role in the administration leading outreach on border-related issues, which led her to be dubbed the “border czar” — a title she has rejected.

“Kamala Harris was appointed border czar, as you know, in March 2021, and since that time, millions and millions of illegal aliens have invaded our country, and countless Americans have been killed by migrant crime because of her willful demolition of American borders and laws,” former President Trump said on a press call last week.

The Harris campaign has pushed back, contrasting her record with Trump’s record in office.

“The only ‘plan’ Donald Trump has to secure our border is ripping mothers from their children and a few xenophobic placards at the Republican National Convention. He tanked the toughest bipartisan border security deal in a generation because, for Donald Trump, this has never been about actually securing the border — it’s always about himself. He can make up whatever lies he wants, but the fact is there’s only one candidate in this race who will fight for real solutions to help secure our nation’s border, and that’s Vice President Harris,” Harris campaign spokesperson Kevin Munoz said.

Illegal immigrants arrested on military base for trespassing walk free after posting five-figure bail

Two Jordanian nationals in the country illegally and who were arrested for trespassing on a Marine Corps base in Virginia have been released from federal custody after posting bond, federal officials confirmed to Fox News Digital.

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) official confirmed to Fox News Digital that Hasan Yousef Hamdan and Mohammad Khair Dabous were allowed to bond out by an immigration judge.

The ICE official said there was no reason to believe either man had any ties to a terrorist organization. The New York Post first reported that the bonds were $15,000 and $10,000 for Hamdan and Dabous, respectively.

ICE had previously said one of the men had been arrested near San Ysidro, California, in April after entering illegally, and the other had overstayed the terms of his student visa. ICE said the two men remain in removal proceedings, despite being free.

The incident occurred on May 3 at Quantico Marine Corps Base in Virginia. A Marine base spokesperson said two people in a box truck had been stopped at a gate.

The driver allegedly told military police officers they were making a delivery to the post office and worked for a company subcontracted by Amazon.

“It was at that time, one of the military police officers noticed the driver, ignoring the direct instructions of the officers, continued to move the vehicle past the holding area and attempted to access Marine Corps Base Quantico,” spokesperson Capt. Michael Curtis said in a statement. Officials later turned them over to ICE after their arrest for trespassing.

The incident had raised fears of a potential terrorist attack, although ICE has repeatedly stressed there is no indication of a public safety or national security threat from the two men, and both appear only to have been charged with misdemeanor trespassing.

The incident is one of a number of such incidents involving illegal immigrants, in a year when the ongoing crisis at the southern border has become a top political issue. Some Republicans have linked the incident at Quantico to policies of the Biden administration.

The administration has accused Republicans of blocking reforms and funding to fix the historic crisis, while Republicans accuse the administration of rolling back successful Trump-era policies and fueling the crisis as a result.

White House, Harris silent on Olympics gender controversy as Trump vows to ‘protect women and girls’

EXCLUSIVE: Both the White House and Kamala Harris’ campaign were silent when contacted for comment Thursday morning about whether they support biologically male, intersex or trans athletes competing against biological females at the Olympics.

The Trump campaign, meanwhile, quickly slammed the notion as uproar surrounds an Algerian fighter caught in the middle of a gender eligibility controversy after their opponent, Italian boxer Angela Carini, withdrew from the match 46 seconds in due to the impact of the punch.

“President Trump has been unequivocally clear that he will NOT stand for men competing in women’s sports – an insane and unfair reality that has been allowed to transpire because of Radical Left politicians like Kamala Harris. When he returns to the White House, President Trump will take immediate action to protect women and girls and overturn the Harris-Biden Administration’s radical rewrite of Title IX,” a Trump campaign spokesperson told Fox News Digital on Thursday.

OLYMPIC BOXER DEEMED TO HAVE MALE CHROMOSOMES WINS FIGHT IN 46 SECONDS, OPPONENT LEFT IN TEARS AFTER HARD HITS

Imane Khelif, the Algerian Olympian, was disqualified from the 2023 World Boxing Championships after the International Boxing Association determined Khelif failed gender tests. According to Reuters, Khelif – who has “female” listed on her passport – was found to have elevated levels of testosterone.

“I got into the ring to fight,” the embattled fighter, Carini, said, according to Italy’s ANSA. “I didn’t give up, but one punch hurt too much, and so I said enough.”

“I’m going out with my head held high.”

IBA President Umar Kremlev explained the decision at the time, according to Russia’s Tass News Agency, saying that based on DNA tests, “we identified a number of athletes who tried to trick their colleagues into posing as women. According to the results of the tests, it was proved that they have XY chromosomes.”

“Such athletes were excluded from competition,” Kremlev said.

Khelif was authorized to compete by the International Olympic Committee, and the Algerian Olympic Committee (COA) addressed the criticisms before Thursday’s event.

“COA strongly condemns the unethical targeting and maligning of our esteemed athlete, Imane Khelif, with baseless propaganda from certain foreign media outlets,” the organization said, via Reuters.

“Such attacks on her personality and dignity are deeply unfair, especially as she prepares for the pinnacle of her career at the Olympics. The COA has taken all necessary measures to protect our champion.”

Italian officials expressed concerns about Khelif’s eligibility.

“It is surprising that there are no certain, strict, uniform criteria at the international level,” Italian Sports Minister Andrea Abodi said, adding it was strange “that there can be a suspicion, and far more than a suspicion, of an unfair and potentially dangerous contest for one of the contenders at the Olympics, an event that symbolizes sporting fairness.”

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni told the U.K. paper, The Telegraph, “it was not an even contest.”

“I think that athletes who have male genetic characteristics should not be admitted to women’s competitions. And not because you want to discriminate against someone, but to protect the right of female athletes to be able to compete on equal terms,” Meloni said.

This is not the first controversy that has arisen since the Olympics began last week. Olympic organizers faced intense backlash from Christians and others worldwide regarding the opening ceremonies of the 2024 games after a skit featuring drag queens and a woman in a halo crown appeared to mock the Leonardo da Vinci painting of Jesus’ Last Supper.

If elected, Harris is expected to advance the Biden administration’s efforts to expand Title IX, the civil rights law that prohibits sex-based discrimination in federally funded schools and educational institutions, now including protections against discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation.

‘No Kings Act’: Schumer advances Biden SCOTUS overhaul with bill to strip Trump’s immunity

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., took the first step to advance President Biden’s Supreme Court overhaul plan, beginning with a measure to strip immunity from former President Trump after last month’s ruling in his favor.

The “No Kings Act” would “clarify” that the Constitution does not entitle presidents to immunity from criminal prosecution for their actions in office, despite the ruling of the high court.

In a statement, Schumer reiterated that the Supreme Court’s ruling granting former presidents significant immunity for official acts done while in office is “dangerous and devastating.”

“The MAGA Supreme Court has once again subverted the will of the American people, and the very idea of democracy itself,” he added.

“The Founders were explicit – no man in America shall be a king. Yet, in their disastrous decision, the Supreme Court threw out centuries of precedent and anointed Trump and subsequent presidents as kings above the law. Given the dangerous and consequential implications of the Court’s ruling, legislation would be the fastest and most efficient method to correcting the grave precedent the Trump ruling presented. With this glaring and partisan overreach, Congress has an obligation – and a constitutional authority – to act as a check and balance to the judicial branch.”

The legislation was backed by 34 Democratic co-sponsors. Vulnerable incumbent Democratic Sens. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania and Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin were among those who joined the measure.

Biden’s recent Supreme Court proposal also included requests for justice term limits and an enforceable code of ethics.

After the president’s announcement, Schumer praised the proposed overhaul. “I am particularly pleased President Biden called for undoing the damage of the Court’s recent immunity decision,” the leader said earlier this week.

Schumer foreshadowed the No Kings Act, remarking, “An option I am considering is drawing up legislation clarifying that the President is not immune from violations of federal law.”

The measure would declare that there is no legal immunity for former presidents or vice presidents that violate the law while in office or in an official capacity, as Schumer previewed.

However, it would also take away the Supreme Court’s authority to address appeals regarding the bill’s constitutionality. Instead, the United States District Court for the District of Columbia would handle challenges to the law, and the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit would have appellate jurisdiction.

Further, it would allow the government to charge former presidents or vice presidents with crimes in any district court across the country.

The majority leader’s legislation faces near-certain failure in the Senate, as Republicans are unlikely to join Democrats to help the measure pass the 60-vote threshold necessary to beat a filibuster. Its odds would be even worse in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, where it likely wouldn’t make it to the chamber floor.

Biden admin eyes parade of foreign visits for president’s final months in office

President Biden’s administration is in the process of planning possible foreign travel for the president’s final months in office, with an eye to his biggest foreign policy focus areas, Fox News has learned.

Much of Biden’s presidency has focused on helping Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression, strengthening the NATO alliance, and pursuing peace in the Middle East.

Sources familiar with the planning say Biden’s team is assessing the potential for travel to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The sources stress that plans are subject to change and there are a considerable number of moving parts.

Biden himself pledged earlier this year that he would travel to Africa “in February after I’m re-elected.” Several White House officials are interested in ensuring that trip takes place before he leaves office.

Biden is also expected to attend the G20 summit in Brazil, which takes place from November 18 to 20. The White House may expand that trip to include the APEC summit in Peru, which runs from November 10 to 16.

The plans come as the nation’s attention has largely shifted away from Biden now that he has dropped out of the 2024 presidential race and endorsed Vice President Harris.

The Democratic Party began its virtual roll call to formally nominate Harris on Thursday. Unlike the Republicans, who held their roll call in person during their convention in Milwaukee last month, the DNC is using a virtual roll call, which will conclude on Monday, two weeks ahead of the Aug. 19 start of the party’s convention at the United Center in Chicago.

ONE OF THESE FIVE DEMOCRATS COULD BE HARRIS’ RUNNING MATE

The DNC decided to hold a virtual roll call – which is similar to the one they held four years ago to nominate Biden amid the coronavirus pandemic – in order to formally have a nominee topping their ticket ahead of an August 7 ballot access deadline in Ohio, they say.

Biden, who faced mounting pressure to step aside in the election and "pass the torch" to another candidate, made the announcement in a post to X. Shortly afterward, he offered his "full support and endorsement" for Vice President Kamala Harris to take over as the party's presidential nominee.

Virginia sees 10,000th new business open under Youngkin’s tenure, fulfilling top campaign pledge

EXCLUSIVE: Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin will announce Thursday that his state has surpassed a business-creation milestone he made a campaign pledge to meet.

After he was declared the victor in November 2021 against Democratic former Gov. Terence McAuliffe, Youngkin, a Republican, pledged to foster 10,000 new start-up businesses during his term.

“On day one, we’re going to jumpstart our jobs and reinvigorate the economy so it lifts up all Virginians,” Youngkin said at the time, having repeatedly declared since that “Virginia is open for business.”

On Thursday, Youngkin said he achieved that goal in “record time.”

“Through our ‘Compete to Win’ strategy, we’ve reached this incredible milestone by driving innovation, fostering entrepreneurship, bolstering our talent pipeline, providing needed tax relief, and truly creating an environment where startups and businesses can thrive,” he said.

“Our efforts to bolster our business environment over the past two and a half years have earned Virginia the top state for business accolade. All startups should come to Virginia because we are fostering an environment of success.”

Youngkin will visit ZEBOX in Arlington later Thursday to commemorate the milestone. ZEBOX is a “startup accelerator” and “innovation hub,” the governor’s office said in a statement.

In response, Virginia Secretary of Commerce Caren Merrick said it is exciting to see so many innovators and entrepreneurs choose Virginia to launch their projects.

“I look forward to thousands more in the future,” Merrick said.

With Virginia being the rare state in which governors cannot be sequentially reelected, that left the Falls Church businessman with only four years to meet the goal.

Youngkin said he is also proud to see CNBC name Virginia the top state for business in the country.

One recent ribbon-cutting took place not far from the governor’s office, as Youngkin joined Petersburg Mayor Sam Parham to open the Petersburg Pharma Campus, which houses several pharmaceutical manufacturers.

On the other side of the state, Firefly Aerospace chose Virginia Spaceport Authority’s Wallops Island facility near Accomac earlier this summer as the launchpad for its Alpha launch vehicle. Wallops Island is also home to an active NASA site.

As early as 2022, Youngkin’s name was being floated as a potential Republican presidential candidate, though the governor has repeatedly stressed his focus remains on Virginia rather than any national political aspirations.

“They elected me to lead change. They elected me to lead Virginia forward. And that’s what we’re doing,” Youngkin told Fox News at the time.

Until Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, was ultimately selected by former President Trump, the political newcomer had also been floated as a potential vice presidential nominee.

Prior to venturing into politics, Youngkin himself had a successful career in the business sector, helming an executive position with the private equity firm Carlyle Group since 1995.

During his tenure there, he reportedly helped Carlyle lead a high-profile $12 billion revamp of John F. Kennedy International Airport’s Terminal 1.

Border district Republican invites Kamala Harris to view crisis firsthand: ‘Sticks out like a sore thumb’

EXCLUSIVE: A senior House Republican whose district borders Mexico is inviting Vice President Kamala Harris, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, to come see the crisis firsthand.

“Every year, for four years now, both before and after she was given the job of dealing with the border by finding and curing the root causes, I’ve invited her to come to the border. And one of the reasons was that obviously it was a border crisis practically from day one of the Biden administration,” Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., told Fox News Digital in an interview.

“But also by year two, when she got this job from the president, she immediately implied that there were three countries that this was all coming from, or that those three countries were filled with people who were coming, you know, fleeing crime.”

Issa was referring to Harris being tapped to tackle the “root causes” of mass migration from El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala – a role that’s earned her widespread criticism among Republicans as the migrant crisis continued to affect cities across the country.

The former House Oversight chairman told Fox News Digital that from his experience in his home district, however, the migration problem was more widespread than just those three countries.

“I wanted her to come and see that, even then, we had a very diverse group of immigrants, coming more and more from other parts of the world, whether it was Romania or Russia, or all the parts of Asia,” Issa said.

Issa said he does not expect Harris to take him up on his offer, citing his experience with her as then-junior senator from California when he served as director of the U.S. Trade and Development Agency under the Trump administration.

“When I was a Trump appointee, she wouldn’t meet with me as a hometown senator. [Late Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.,] did,” Issa said. “She has never been somebody who took the time to cross the aisle and speak to senators or House members, even from their home state, even on state issues.”

The most recent data show that border encounters fell to their lowest monthly number during Biden’s presidency in June, with just under 84,000 migrants encountered between points of entry, after the president signed an executive order restricting most asylum claims when the seven-day average of illegal crossings rises above 2,500.

But Republicans have argued that number is still too high, and continued to blame both Biden and Harris for instances of crime committed by illegal immigrants against Americans this year.

“I have about 100 miles of the Mexican border, east of San Diego. What we see and hear is from law enforcement, the increased amount of border crime,” Issa said.

“Republicans don’t agree on everything, but we agree that government is already too big, the taxes are already too high. We believe that laws should be enforced, criminals should be punished, and that our border should be secure,” Issa said. “Harris not coming sticks out like a sore thumb. J.D. coming is to be expected because … supporting national defense, including border defense, those are core tenets of our party.”

Fox News Digital reached out to the Harris campaign for comment but did not hear back by press time.
