Rep. Tim Burchett to Newsmax: Biden ‘Doesn’t Get It’ or ‘Just Lying’ on Inflation

Rep. Tim Burchett to Newsmax: Biden 'Doesn't Get It' or 'Just Lying' on Inflation (Newsmax/"Prime News")

By Luca Cacciatore | Monday, 19 September 2022 10:42 PM EDT

Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., told Newsmax on Monday that President Joe Biden either "doesn't get it or he's just lying" about the problems consumers face with inflation.

During an interview on "Prime News," Burchett outlined how rising prices are still a problem that economists take seriously despite Biden's narrative that inflation has barely increased in the past couple of months.

"Gas is up over 25%, the month of August inflation was up 8.3%," Burchett stated. "He talks about an inch – he just doesn't get it, or he's just lying. And I'm afraid he's getting to the point where he just doesn't get it anymore because with his numbers plummeting across the country.

"He's going to have to run against Joe Biden [in 2024]."

The Tennessee congressman further called out congressional Democrats and the administration for rampant spending, pointing out how the U.S. is "trillions of dollars in debt" partially by funding green energy initiatives.

"It's all by design," Burchett said. "They're driving the gasoline industry out. When [former President Donald] Trump was in office, we exported energy, and now we have to import it from our enemies.

"Under this president, our energy plan is a disaster, and they say it with pride. They talk about these electric vehicles like every working man and woman is going to own an electric vehicle. That's crazy," he added.

Burchett reiterated that he hopes Biden does not seek elected office again in 2024 but pointed out that the "young staffers" surrounding Biden could push him into seeking a second term.

"Us peasants are at the gates of the Capitol – we're saying enough is enough," he said. "We cannot afford any more of his so-called 'success story.' It's time the Democrats throw in the towel with this guy. He's out of control, and our economy is in a downward spiral."

Peter Navarro to Newsmax: Biden ‘Talking Strongly, Acting Weakly’

Peter Navarro to Newsmax: Biden 'Talking Strongly, Acting Weakly' (Newsmax/"Eric Bolling The Balance")

By Eric Mack | Monday, 19 September 2022 09:59 PM EDT

President Joe Biden's "self-inflicted wound" on foreign policy disasters invite aggression, according to former White House senior adviser Peter Navarro on Newsmax.

"This is a new anti-Teddy Roosevelt/Donald Trump doctrine," Navarro told Monday's "Eric Bolling The Balance." "Instead of talking softly and carrying a big stick – which Donald Trump used to keep Iran, North Korea, China, and Russia at bay and peaceful for our four years – Biden is basically talking strongly and acting weakly and inviting this kind of aggression.

"That was a self-inflicted wound. It's hardly the first on foreign policy that Joe Biden has done."

Navarro's new book "Taking Back Trump's America: Why We Lost the White House and How We'll Win It Back" is set to be released Tuesday.

"This has got to stop, Eric; it's got to stop," Navarro continued to host Eric Bolling. "'Taking Back Trump's America' is a mission for me, and it's the House of Representatives that are causing the inflation, along with Biden, and Biden screwing up our foreign policy around the world right now, and it's dangerous, Eric."

Navarro denounced Biden having "poked the Communist Chinese bear" by saying Taiwan would be defended by America if it were invaded by China.

"It's an escalation up the ladder, hardens the communists' position even more, and it brings us closer to war nobody wants and we would never have under Trump, but might well get under Joe Biden, Eric, which is dangerous."

Biden is also bungling the domestic economy, the former White House trade adviser told Bolling.

"We're in a stagflationary crisis and it's manufactured by Joe Biden," Navarro said.

"The performance by Biden was abysmal and he not only denied reality on inflation, and also on stagflation," he added. "I think that the whole idea now is having sensible economic policy in the face of a stock market that's crashing and about to go lower."

Pompeo Chides Biden ‘Kicking’ Unvaccinated Soldiers Out After Declaring Pandemic’s End

Pompeo Chides Biden 'Kicking' Unvaccinated Soldiers Out After Declaring Pandemic's End (Newsmax)

By Charles Kim | Monday, 19 September 2022 08:59 PM EDT

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo scolded President Joe Biden for still kicking soldiers out of the military for not getting vaccinated against COVID-19 after declaring the pandemic’s end during a “60 Minutes” interview on CBS Sunday.

“Biden now says ‘the pandemic is over’ as he’s kicking tens of thousands of healthy soldiers out of the military with his COVID vaccine mandate,” Pompeo posted on Twitter Monday. “These soldiers should be reinstated immediately.”

The interview on the CBS News “6o Minutes” program aired Sunday night, showed the President and CBS News correspondent Scott Pelley touring the first Detroit Auto Show in the three years since the onset of COVID-19.

“The pandemic is over,” Biden said. “We still have a problem with COVID. We're still doing a lotta work on it. It's — but the pandemic is over. if you notice, no one's wearing masks. Everybody seems to be in pretty good shape.”

Despite Biden stating the end of the pandemic during the interview, his administration has not ended the emergency declaration by former President Donald Trump in 2020, or the requirement that all federal employees, including the military be vaccinated against the disease.

In July, the National Guard Association reported that unvaccinated Guard members would not be able to participate in training sessions, drills, or activities that generated pay or retirement credits, impacting up to 40,000 troops.

“Maintaining readiness continues to be among the U.S. Army’s highest priorities," the U.S. Army Public Affairs Department said in a statement at the time. “Soldiers who refuse the vaccination order without an approved or pending exemption request are subject to adverse administrative actions, including flags, bars to service, and official reprimands. In the future, Soldiers who continue to refuse the vaccination order without an exemption may be subject to additional adverse administrative action, including separation.”

According to the report, 88.6% of the Guard was vaccinated as of July 1, following the June 30 deadline.

“Our service members are the bedrock of America,” Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., said in the report. “Firing 40,000 Guardsmen for refusing the COVID vaccine would be both a complete disgrace and a threat to our national security. I am honored to stand beside our National Guardsmen and women by introducing this legislation to protect them from President Biden’s forever pandemic."

According to Breitbart, 8,000 troops have already been separated for not taking the vaccine.

33 GOP Senators Seek Hunter Biden Special Counsel

33 GOP Senators Seek Hunter Biden Special Counsel (Newsmax)

By Jack Gournell | Monday, 19 September 2022 08:31 PM EDT

Thirty-three Republican senators on Monday sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland seeking special counsel status for the U.S. attorney investigating Hunter Biden's foreign business dealings, the New York Post reports.

The letter, written by Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, asks Garland to give U.S. Attorney David Weiss the powers of a special counsel, noting "politicization" of the Justice Department, a lack of public trust in the authorities and a whistleblower's allegations of an FBI coverup of damaging evidence and testimony to President Joe Biden's son.

"Given the politicization of the DOJ under your watch and the importance of avoiding any appearance of impropriety, the undersigned request that you provide U.S. Attorney Weiss the full protections and authorities of a special counsel," reads the letter, which was signed by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., among others.

"This is one important action that you can take that will go a long way in restoring faith in our governmental institutions," the letter continues.

Weiss, who is already leading the Hunter Biden probe into his foreign business dealings, is a holdover in the Justice Department from the Trump administration.

Hunter Biden has paid the IRS approximately $2 million in back taxes already as a result of the probe, hoping to avoid prosecution. The money was a loan or gift from Hollywood attorney Kevin Morris, the Post reported.

"There is no way of knowing the entire scope of the investigation, but evidence seems to be mounting that Hunter Biden committed numerous federal crimes, including, but not limited to, tax fraud, money laundering, and foreign-lobbying violations," Cornyn says in the letter.

"Indeed, Senators [Chuck] Grassley and [Ron] Johnson have conducted an investigation for several years that has resulted in the public discourse of facts that support those criminal concerns, including the disclosure of financial records showing the Biden family’s close financial connections to the communist Chinese government and questionable foreign nationals," the letter says.

"It is clear that Hunter Biden thrived off a 'pay to play' culture of access to his father, then Vice President Joe Biden in exchange for financial compensation."

In an interview broadcast Sunday on "60 Minutes," President Joe Biden said Hunter Biden's foreign business dealings did not create conflicts of interest for him.

"There’s not a single thing that I’ve observed at all that would affect me or the United States relative to my son Hunter," he said. The Post noted, however, that the president met with several of his son's business associates and is mentioned in communications found on his purported laptop computer.

RNC: Remember Biden’s Border ‘Dereliction of Duty’ in November

RNC: Remember Biden's Border 'Dereliction of Duty' in November (Newsmax/''American Agenda'')

By Eric Mack | Monday, 19 September 2022 08:14 PM EDT

Striking at what it called the Biden administration's "dereliction of duty" at the U.S.-Mexico border, the Republican National Committee has made a call for voters to remember the border — and their families' safety.

"Because of Biden and Democrats' dereliction of duty and open border policies, gangs are thriving, drugs are pouring into our neighborhoods, and our communities are less safe," RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel wrote in a statement Monday. "This November, Biden's border crisis will be top of mind as voters worry about the safety and security of loved ones."

There were 203,597 illegal immigrants stopped at the border in August, which the RNC called a 329% increase from the average during the Trump administration.

Among the data released by the RNC, the immigrants stopped included:

  • 11,365 unaccompanied children.
  • 104,679 people from countries outside the Northern Triangle and Mexico, showing that the crisis is global.
  • 66 on the terror watchlist who have been apprehended since the fiscal year began in October.

The Biden administration border apprehension total has reached 3.6 million illegal immigrants that Customs and Border Protection has apprehended. When considering the over 850,000 gotaways that have escaped the Border Patrol, the total comes more than 4.4 million immigrants crossing the border illegally since President Joe Biden took office, according to the RNC.

Vice President Kamala Harris nevertheless asserted last week that "we have a secure border."

The RNC also noted the amount of fentanyl seized in August is the equivalent of more than 500 million lethal doses:

  • 2,204 pounds of deadly fentanyl seized.
  • 4,969 pounds of cocaine seized.

In recent months, the issue of out-of-control borders has also come to the fore as some red-state governors have bused, or even flown, illegal migrants to blue jurisdictions. Those leaders say it's entirely appropriate to send the migrants to communities that embrace "sanctuary" laws and practices. Critics accuse the governors of using the migrants — and perhaps dehumanizing them — simply to score political points.

Trump Defends ‘Perfect’ Call With Georgia Secretary of State Amid Inquiry

Former President Donald Trump has again defended his January 2021 discussion with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, which came approximately two months after the 2020 presidential election, reiterating that his conduct when speaking to Raffensperger made for "an absolutely PERFECT phone call."

In a Save America post on Monday, Trump said that Fulton County District Attorney Fani T. Willis has been "spending almost all of her waking hours, which aren't many, on attempting to prosecute a very popular president, Donald J. Trump" and that she is "basing her potential claims on trying to find a tiny word or phrase (that isn't there) during an absolutely PERFECT phone call, concerning widespread Election Fraud in Georgia."

In 2021, Willis launched an investigation of whether the former president or his associates were involved in attempting to change the outcome of the 2020 election.

According to reports, Willis asserts that her team has uncovered credible allegations of serious crimes from the investigation, but would not specify any potential charges.

Willis has already subpoenaed a number of political figures in connection with this investigation, including Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani.

Last year, The New York Times released the full text and audio of then-President Trump's call with Raffensperger.

Here are two notable excerpts from the lengthy call:

Excerpt 1

"We're going to have an accurate number over the next two days with certified accountants, but an accurate number will be given, but it's in the 50s of thousands, and that's people that went to vote, and they were told they can't vote because they've already been voted for, and it's a very sad thing. They walked out complaining, but the number's large. We'll have it for you, but it's very, it's much more than the number of 11,779. That's the current margin, is only 11,779.

"Brad, I think, I think you agree with that, right? That's something I think everyone — at least that's a number that everyone agrees on. But that's the difference in the votes, but we've had hundreds of thousands of ballots that we're able to actually, we'll get you a pretty accurate number. You don't need much of a number, because the number that in theory I lost by, the margin would be 11,779."

Excerpt #2

"They, they beat me in the — as you know, every single state, we won every state. We won every statehouse in the country. We held the Senate, which is shocking to people, although we'll see what happens tomorrow or in a few days. And we won the House, but we won every single statehouse, and we won Congress, which was supposed to lose 15 seats, and they gained I think 16 or 17 or something. I think there's now a difference of five.

"There was supposed to be a difference of substantially more. But politicians in every state, but politicians in Georgia, have given affidavits, and are going to — that, that there was no way they beat me in the — in the election, that the people came out — in fact, they were expecting to lose. And then, they ended up winning by a lot because of the coattails, and they said there's no way, that they've done many polls prior to the election.

"There was no way that they won. Ballots were dropped in massive numbers, and we're trying to get to those numbers, and we will have them. They'll take a period of time certified. But, but, but they're massive numbers and far greater than the 11,779."

Rep. Jim Jordan to Newsmax: Dems’ Hypocrisy on Issues Disturbing

Rep. Jim Jordan to Newsmax: Dems' Hypocrisy on Issues Disturbing (Newsmax/''The Chris Salcedo Show'')

By Nick Koutsobinas | Monday, 19 September 2022 07:16 PM EDT

Ohio Republican Rep. Jim Jordan told Newsmax on Monday that the stances some of his Democratic colleagues have taken on issues such as the border, inflation, gas prices, to the demonization of half the electorate have followed a disturbing trend.

Speaking to "The Chris Salcedo Show" about a CBS reporter's use of the word "disturbing" to describe a network poll that "extrapolates" that 13 million Americans support the use of force to restore former President Donald Trump to the presidency, Jordan criticized the statement and cited what he sees as "hypocrisy" in some Democrats' rhetoric and actions.

Jordan, who is seeking reelection, said that since President Joe Biden has taken office, the United States has gone from "a secure border to no border. We went from stable prices to record inflation. We went from safe streets to record levels of crime in every major urban area in the country. We went from $2 gas to $5 gas. I think those things are what's really disturbing to most Americans."

"As frankly, as far as [GOP governors' busing of immigrants to] Martha's Vineyard goes," Jordan continued, "you know, it's funny with Democrats; they're sanctuary cities until it's actually time to provide sanctuary, and then [it's], 'oh, no, no, no, we don't want to do that, that's for someone else.' It shows the hypocrisy that these guys have."

Since Biden has taken office, millions of migrants have crossed the southern border illegally, and the selective coverage is "hypocritical," he said.

Speaking on the influx of migrants, Jordan said: "I always point out this: This is not an accident. This is deliberate. This is intentional. This is premeditated, what they're doing to our border."

"And now, when Republican governors like [Texas Gov. Greg] Abbott and [Florida Gov. Ron] DeSantis decide … we're going to let the rest of the country get a taste of what's happening on our border," they point out that "there's always two standards. There's one standard for the elite … but a different standard for us regular people."

Rep. Cheney’s Election Bill Strips VP of Electoral Count Challenge Authority

Rep. Cheney's Election Bill Strips VP of Electoral Count Challenge Authority (Newsmax)

By Charles Kim | Monday, 19 September 2022 07:07 PM EDT

In an effort to prevent another Jan. 6, 2021, event, Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., and Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif, introduced legislation on Monday that would take any authority over counting the Electoral College vote away from the vice president.

“First, we must reaffirm what the Constitution and existing law already make plain: The vice president (who acts as presiding officer for a joint session of Congress in a presidential election) has no authority or discretion to reject official state electoral slates, to delay the count in any material way, or to issue procedural rulings that have such an effect,” the two representatives said in a Wall Street Journal opinion piece Sunday.

The 12th Amendment is straightforward; it simply requires counting: ‘The President of the Senate shall, in the presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the certificates and the votes shall then be counted; the person having the greatest number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of electors appointed.’”

Cheney, who serves as a vice chairman of the House Select Committee on the Jan. 6 protest and riot at the U.S. Capitol, lost her GOP primary reelection bid to Harriet Hageman, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump, by more than 30 points in August, NBC News reported at the time.

Despite losing the election, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney doubled down on her opposition to Trump seeking the White House again in 2024.

"We must be very clear-eyed about the threat we face,” she said in the post-election report, repeating a previous pledge to “do whatever it takes to ensure that Donald Trump is never again anywhere near the Oval Office.”

Known as the “Presidential Election Reform Act,” the bill would not allow a sitting vice president to question the results of the balloting, or fail to certify the results, according to the proposed legislation.

The bill would also narrow the grounds that other Congress members could legally object to a slate of presidential electors.

“Our proposal is intended to preserve the rule of law for all future presidential elections by ensuring that self-interested politicians cannot steal from the people the guarantee that our government derives its power from the consent of the governed,” the pair wrote in the opinion piece. “We look forward to working with our colleagues in the House and the Senate toward this goal.”

Rep. Mast to Newsmax: Floridians See Dems’ ‘Sanctuary’ Hypocrisy With Migrants

Rep. Mast to Newsmax: Floridians See Dems' 'Sanctuary' Hypocrisy With Migrants (Newsmax/"Spicer & Co.")

By Jay Clemons | Monday, 19 September 2022 06:42 PM EDT

Rep. Brian Mast, R-Fla., says that Gov. Ron DeSantis' participation last week in sending approximately 50 illegal immigrants to Martha's Vineyard — an island beach destination in Massachusetts, which also maintains sanctuary-city status — was largely endorsed by other Floridians.

"First of all, 'hell yeah, Governor DeSantis, you go!" Mast told Newsmax Monday evening, while appearing on "Spicer & Co." with host Sean Spicer.

From Mast's perspective, the mayor and governors from left-leaning cities and states have been publicly trumpeting their "sanctuary" status for years — especially during the days of the Trump administration — but likely never figured opposing politicians would put their supposed tolerance to a public test.

"[The Democratic Party mayors and governors] just talk the game. They don't actually want [the opportunity] to back it up," says Mast, who celebrated his 'Alive' day on Monday, marking the 12th anniversary of him being rescued from deadly circumstances during military conflict in Afghanistan.

According to reports, on Sept. 19, 2010, Mast had been clearing a path for U.S. Army Rangers in Kandahar, and subsequently stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device along the road.

The explosion resulted in the amputation of Mast's two legs and his left index finger.

Mast talks to veterans every week while serving Florida in the Congressional chamber.

As part of that, Mast relays that today's service members are troubled by President Joe Biden's knack for saying something publicly one day — such as the pandemic being "over" response on 60 Minutes Sunday night, or if America would immediately defend Taiwan, in the event of a China invasion — only to have White House officials clarify, or even correct the president later on in a different forum.

"There's no peace through strength [with Biden in office]. That doesn't exist right now for the United States of America," says Mast, while adding there's no apparent "red line" with Biden for Russia's handling of the war with Ukraine, or when it's threatening America's European allies with energy shortages.

"[Biden] can't show strength … and when he does, it immediately gets walked back," says Mast.

As such, the Florida congressman, who's up for reelection this November, feels the leaders for Russia and China figure "they can roll right over the United States of America, and the president."

Dick Morris to Newsmax: Dems Can’t Run on Record, Deflect to Trump in Midterms

Dick Morris to Newsmax: Dems Can't Run on Record, Deflect to Trump in Midterms (Newsmax/"American Agenda")

By Charles Kim | Monday, 19 September 2022 05:42 PM EDT

Dick Morris, a political activist, author, and advisor to former presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, told Newsmax Monday that Democrats cannot run on their horrible record in the midterm elections, but must focus on demonizing Trump instead to energize voters.

"They know they can't run on [President Joe] Biden's record. They know they can't survive. A comparison [with Trump's record]," Morris said during "American Agenda" Monday. "What they're trying to do is make this race entirely about Donald Trump. Not about their own candidates, and not about Biden. That's why all of the stuff that they say now about the special master. It's all designed to focus on Trump, so we're not focusing on Biden."

Morris said that the F.B.I. raid on Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, and Biden's "extremist" speech from Philadelphia earlier this month are all designed to keep the public's eye off the rising inflation, border crisis, and foreign policy failures.

"It's like, 'look over here,' right? But 'look over here,' and that's their strategy," he said. "That's what they're trying to do."

He said that a new poll out from NBC News showing voters with a 54% negative opinion about Trump did not accurately capture those people likely to vote in the November midterms, but a sample of 1,000 registered voters, a substantial percentage of whom do not vote in Congressional races.

Note: Get Dick Morris' new book "The Return" on Trump's secret plan for 2024. See It Here!

"It's easy to get wrong," he said. "That poll is of registered voters, not likely voters, though. Forty percent of registered voters don't vote in Congressional elections, so it is usually much more Democrats than Republicans."

The poll was conducted between Sept. 9-13 with 1,000 registered voters and has a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.

While Trump's favorability dropped a couple points, and Biden's increased similarly, both Republicans and Democrats were evenly split at 46% each in who should have control of Congress, according to the survey.

"We often think about wave elections," Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research Associates, who conducted this survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff of Public Opinion Strategies told NBC News. "But this year, we may think instead about a 'waves' election where unprecedentedly strong crosscurrents push voters in different directions, with an end result that may not be what we expected."

Most of those surveyed said the country was on the wrong track, and cited the issues of the economy, political division, and border control in making their assessment.

Joe Biden has declared that the COVID-19 pandemic is over.

During a CBS News 60 Minutes interview on Sunday, Biden affirmed it might be time to move on. The Democrat said the country should continue still exercise caution with COVID-19 and that work still needs to be done in order to get the virus under control.

The World Health Organization (WHO) still designates the virus as a ‘public health emergency of international concern.’

While Biden was attending a car show in Detroit, Michigan, he talked to a 60 Minutes reporter and made it clear that people were not masked and were living normally.

“The pandemic is over. We still have a problem with COVID, we’re still doing a lot of work on it, but the pandemic is over. If you notice, no one is wearing masks, everyone seems to be in pretty good shape and so I think it’s changing and I think this is a perfect example of it.”

Despite Biden’s recent remarks, last month the White House extended the public health emergency declaration for COVID-19 through October 13th. The Biden administration is continuing its policy on vaccine mandates.

According to the Epoch Times, Trafalgar Group Chief Pollster Robert Cahaly has stated that President Biden’s MAGA Republican remarks have made pollsters access to Republican voters even more scant.

He said that this will be a continuation of the trend seen in 2016 where Trump voters refused to answer polls. In 2020, even less Trump supporters answered polls which resulted in an undercount of GOP support.

Cahaly said that with federal law enforcement focusing on MAGA Republicans, even fewer voters will answer surveys.

Abbott Leads O'Rourke by 9 Points in Texas Governor Race: Poll (Newsmax)

By Charlie McCarthy | Monday, 19 September 2022 02:56 PM EDT

Gov. Greg Abbott, R-Texas, has opened a 9-point lead over Democrat challenger Beto O'Rourke, according to a new poll.

Abbott, seeking a third term, received 47% support while O'Rourke got 38% in The Dallas Morning News and the University of Texas at Tyler survey released Monday.

The poll results mean that Abbott increased his lead by 2 percentage points since last month's poll.

The latest Morning News/Tyler survey found that O'Rourke holds a 1-point lead over Abbott with independent voters in a race the nonpartisan Cook Political Report rates as "likely Republican."

A total of 40% of the poll's respondents said they considered themselves Republican; 33% said they were Democrats; and 27% said they belonged to neither major party.

The latest survey found that Abbott holds a slight lead (44%-42%) among women, and a 10-point lead among parents.

Half of the Morning News/Tyler survey respondents said they approved of Abbott's job performance as governor, with 25% indicating they strongly approve. A total of 47% disapprove, with 34% saying they strongly disapprove of the governor's job performance.

The poll results showed that 54% indicated support for Abbott's busing of illegal migrants specifically to Washington, D.C. Only 29% said they opposed the governor's action, with another 16% saying they didn't know.

Regarding immigration along the southern border overall, 52% said they approve of Abbott's handling of the issue. Among independents, 47% disapprove and 35% approve.

Asked if Texas were headed in the right direction or whether things are on the wrong track, 54% said the wrong track, 44% said the right direction, and 2% said neither.

Voters were asked their impressions of Sens. John Cornyn, R-Texas, and Ted Cruz, R-Texas, neither of whom is running for reelection this year. The results:

  • Cornyn — 37% favorable, 33% unfavorable, 10% neither, 20% didn't know.
  • Cruz — 43% favorable, 46% unfavorable, 3% neither, 7% didn't know.

As for former President Donald Trump, 45% have a favorable impression and 50% said they have an unfavorable impression, including 39% with a very unfavorable impression.

The Morning News/Tyler survey poll was conducted Sept. 6-13 and included interviews with 1,268 registered Texas voters. The margin error is 2.9 percentage points.

Abbott's campaign spent $4.3 million to broadcast two television ads across the state in August, timing his general election push to coincide with back-to-school season, the Morning News reported.

In contrast, O'Rourke only spent roughly $40,000 for limited airings in August, according to AdImpact.

Biden’s ‘Pandemic Is Over’ Declaration Ripped by Experts, GOP

President Joe Biden's "60 Minutes" declaration "the pandemic is over" is drawing a response Monday, but not quite a joyous one.

"The pandemic is over," Biden said Sunday. "We still have a problem with COVID. We're still doing a lot of work on it, but the pandemic is over."

Health experts are saying the pandemic is not actually over yet, while Republicans are saying Biden and Democrats need to move to unwind their strict COVID-19 public policies and protocols then, if it indeed was over.

"With the pandemic officially over, now it's time to end all vaccine mandates," Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., tweeted Sunday.

Biden's comment even flies in the face of a $22.4 billion White House request this month for COVID-19 funding in the next continuing resolution to fund the government. Republicans want unused COVID-19 funds from past appropriations to be used first, as The Wall Street Journal reported.

"It's completely off base," Scripps Research Translational Institute Director Dr. Eric Topol told the Journal. "It's an illusion. We have millions of people with long COVID and no vaccine that blocks transmission."

The Biden administration released its updated COVID-19 Global Response and Recovery Framework last week "to end the emergency phase of the pandemic," the Journal reported.

"If 'the pandemic is over' as Biden says, then all of the president's emergency powers predicated on a pandemic, all COVID vax mandates, the emergency powers of every governor, Emergency Use Authorizations, and the PREP act should all be voided tomorrow," Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., tweeted Sunday.

Former Trump administration Surgeon General Jerome Adams criticized Biden, too.

"I understand what he was trying to say but such rhetoric is hurtful, dangerous, and scientifically untrue," Adams tweeted. "Nice to see some people call it out."

George Washington University Dr. Leana Wen said the pandemic is over in that we have COVID-19 here to stay.

"One definition of a pandemic is something that changes the way we live, work, and go to school," Wen told the Journal. "For most Americans, COVID-19 is no longer dominating their lives and is now being understood as another infectious disease risk, more akin to the flu than a dire deadly disease."

There have been 95 million COVID-19 cases in the U.S. and more than 1 million deaths, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data shows.

But the 7-day average of new cares is near 61,000 after being 970,000 per week Jan. 17, and hospitalizations are around 4,100 per week, dropping 80% since mid-January, according to the report.

Illegal Migrant Arrests Higher Under Biden Than Obama

Illegal Migrant Arrests Higher Under Biden Than Obama Newsmax

Border Patrol agents nationwide have arrested more people who crossed the border unlawfully in 18 months under President Joe Biden than during former President Barack Obama's two terms, underscoring the extent of the border crisis.

Under Biden there have been 3,484,327 apprehensions of unauthorized migrants compared to 3,384,816 in Obama's two terms, The Washington Examiner reported. Some illegal migrants attempted more than once to cross, particularly during the pandemic, because agents immediately expelled many back to Mexico.

Federal agents have made 150,000 to 200,000 arrests each month over the past 18 months, mostly on the U.S.-Mexico border, The Washington Examiner reported. Ten months into the government's 2022 fiscal year, the Border Patrol has apprehended 1,822,620 people — exceeding the 2021 record of 1,662,167.

Vice President Kamala Harris said in an NBC interview earlier this month: "We have a secure border in that that is a priority for any nation, including ours and our administration, but there are still a lot of problems that we are trying to fix given the deterioration that happened over the last four years."

Biden's softening of tone on immigration compared to former President Donald Trump's hard-line talk is seen as a green light for people in other countries to migrate, analysts say.

The Biden administration stopped turning away unaccompanied child migrants, attempted to halt deportations for 100 days, and suspended border wall construction, The Washington Examiner noted.

Since March 2020, immigrants arriving at the southern border have not been allowed to seek asylum at land ports of entry as part of the Title 42 public health order. In response, those desperate for help walk around the port and illegally enter.

Because Border Patrol agents could turn away illegal immigrants during the pandemic, it has led to higher recidivism rates than pre-pandemic years. People sent back to Mexico may try to enter illegally again and continue doing so until they get in without getting apprehended, The Washington Examiner noted.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, blamed Biden's "catastrophic" open-border policies for the strain placed on Texas communities and resources, thetexan.com reported.

"The Biden-Harris Administration continues ignoring and denying the historic crisis at our southern border, which has endangered and overwhelmed Texas communities for almost two years,"Abbott said in a news release.

"Our supposed Border Czar, Vice President Kamala Harris, has yet to even visit the border to see firsthand the impact of the open border policies she has helped implement, even going so far as to claim the border is 'secure.' Texas will continue sending migrants to sanctuary cities like Washington, D.C., until President Biden and Border Czar Harris step up and do their jobs to secure the border.”

"I think there is no question that we have to do what the president and I asked Congress to do — the first request we made — pass a bill to create a pathway to citizenship," Harris said in the NBC interview She said a pathway to citizenship does not yet exist because "people are playing politics"on what was once a "bipartisan issue.”

The Biden administration maintains it has focused its efforts on improving conditions within federal immigration facilities and quickly releasing people. It has opened numerous tent facilities where thousands of immigrants are detained each day as they are processed and either removed from the country or released with a future immigration court date.

In her column Sunday in The New York Times, Maureen Dowd wrote: "The argument that migrants coming across the border have a more severe impact on border states is obviously valid. You can’t have a nearly unchecked flood of people coming in — an average of 8,500 a day, according to Axios.

"It is also a valid criticism that Democrats — both in the White House and Congress — are going out of their way to avoid what they see as a third rail with progressives. The border is just the tip of the spear. Democrats are too afraid of angering the base to bear down and overhaul the system, including tackling the backlog of court cases and fixing how those cases are adjudicated."

Youngkin Hitting Campaign Trail As Speculation Swirls Over Possible WH Plans

Youngkin Hitting Campaign Trail As Speculation Swirls Over Possible WH Plans (Newsmax)

By Fran Beyer | Monday, 19 September 2022 10:31 AM EDT

Virginia GOP Gov. Glenn Youngkin is expected to jump onto the campaign trail for Arizona governor candidate Kari Lake in October — and it reportedly may be ahead of his own possible 2024 presidential bid.

Youngkin's Arizona trip is part of nationwide campaign tour to push Republican candidates, Politico has reported. He's so far traveled to Nevada and Michigan and is bound for Kansas later this week.

But Lake will be the highest-profile candidate with former President Donald Trump's backing that the Virginia governor has campaigned for, Politico reported. Polls have shown her in a tight race with Arizona's Democrat Secretary of State Katie Hobbs.

According to Politico, Youngkin is expected to hold political and fundraising events for Lake. But on other trips, he'll probably single out education policy — the issue he championed in his upset 2021 win in Virginia's race, wooing suburban voters who'd turned against the GOP during the Trump administration.

In a statement, Youngkin praised Arizona's termed-out chief executive, Doug Ducey, and said the state "deserves another Republican governor," the news outlet reported.

Although Lake has appealed to Trump's conservative backers, she's also started looking for backing from mainstream Republican figures in Arizona at the encouragement of Arizona GOP mega-donor Jim Click, Politico reported.

"We were very impressed," Click told Politico after a meeting with her. "I think she's going to do very well, I think she's going to help us down-ballot."

Click also praised Youngkin, saying he'd be a "good candidate" for the White House, though he said it's too early to get behind just one candidate for the 2024 race.

Politico reported Youngkin's already launched a pair of PACs that can fund his political activities, and has appeared at high-profile conservative events sponsored by the American Enterprise Institute and Susan B. Anthony List, which opposes abortion.

Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis, who's also raised speculation he's aiming for a White House run, hit the campaign trail for Lake last month, Politico reported.

Democrats Gird for GOP House Majority

By Charlie McCarthy | Monday, 19 September 2022 09:16 AM EDT

Democrats are predicting legislative gridlock if Republicans win control of the House in November.

"If Republicans win control of the House, they will not be able to govern," said Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, The Hill reported.

"It'll be a cascading nightmare of dysfunction and horrible for the country and horrible news for anybody who relies on federal funding."

Another Democrat senator told The Hill that if Republicans capture the House, it will yield "a series of investigations" of the Biden administration.

"Many want to impeach Joe Biden. It would be a recipe for chaos and for gridlock," said the lawmaker, who requested anonymity.

"There will be ways. They're not all crazy. Some of them are," Senate Banking Committee Chairman Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, said of House Republicans.

It was unclear whether such comments were meant more to be campaign rhetoric or about what is seen as occurring with recent polls showing the GOP favored to regain control of the chamber in the midterms.

Democrats currently appear confident they will retain Senate control, meaning President Joe Biden could be working with a divided Congress.

FiveThirtyEight.com gives Republicans a 7 in 10 chance of winning the House majority and Democrats a 7 in 10 chance of keeping control of the Senate.

Besides that, House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., in line to become speaker if the GOP wins the chamber, is more allied with former President Donald Trump than Senate Republican leader Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

Not a single House Republican voted to raise the debt ceiling in October — Trump called on Republicans to block the legislation — and it fell to McConnell and his leadership team to help Democrats keep the government fulfilling its debt obligations.

Trump blasted McConnell for compromising with Democrats, arguing that Republicans should have sought to cripple Biden's agenda.

House conservatives have signaled they will attempt to block funding for the Internal Revenue Service to hire an estimated 87,000 new employees, which was provided for in Biden's health care and climate legislation signed last month.

Senate Democrats said they hope standoffs and threatened shutdowns will be avoided.

"I think we've learned that shutdowns really are a lose-lose [proposition]," said Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., The Hill reported. "Certainly some House Republicans have learned. Whether all of them or the newly elected ones remains to be seen."
