As if there was any last lingering doubt, everyone now hates the media.

I know that may sound like familiar news. And that we are largely to blame for our plunging credibility, especially in the supercharged atmosphere surrounding Donald Trump and the campaign, and even more so after the assassination attempt.

For decades, of course, Republicans and conservatives have felt they can’t get a fair shake from the press, who many now see as an arm of the other party, but now it’s Democrats and liberals who hold the White House and are increasingly disgusted with the coverage.

New technology enables both sides to circumvent the dreaded MSM and get their message directly to voters through social media and by their own video. That may get amplified by the tube and the web, without the annoyance of reporters asking questions.

Take JD Vance, Trump’s new running mate, who was chosen in part because of his smooth television performances. Asked by Sean Hannity about the terrible things he said about the former president in 2016, including “cynical A-hole” and “America’s Hitler,” Vance owned it and then declared:

“I bought into the media’s lies and distortions. I bought into this idea that somehow he was going to be so different, a terrible threat to democracy. It was a joke.” 

The Ohio senator then seamlessly pivoted to: “Joe Biden is the one who’s trying to throw his political opposition in jail. Joe Biden is the one who’s trying to undermine American law and order.”

Also taking shots at Vice President Harris, Vance said leading Democrats “all have gone on TV, on radio and newspapers and said for years that Joe Biden can do the job and he’s doing just fine. Well, now we know they were lying, and we should punish them for lying to our faces about it.”

Punish them? How, exactly?

This reminds me of the time that Trump said that NBC and CNN should have their licenses pulled or other action taken for blowing off his Iowa caucus victory speech. I asked him about this in our Mar-a-Lago interview, but he just dwelled on the unfairness of being denied the spotlight he was owed.

Trump is in a special category because he constantly assailed the national media as the “enemy of the people” and attacked journalists by name, instantly downgrading them to “third-rate reporter” and their organizations to “failing.” On the other hand, the former president views himself as counterpunching against nine years of endless media attacks portraying him as a dictator and authoritarian, Hitler and Mussolini, and a man who would undo the fabric of democracy.

Now let’s switch to the other side.

In an often testy interview with NBC’s Lester Holt in which he defended his mental acuity, the president asked about what Trump said during Biden’s own very bad night:

“Why doesn’t the press talk about all the lies he told? I didn’t hear anything about that.”

“We have,” said Holt. “We have. We reported many of the issues that you had in that debate.”

“No you haven’t.”

“We will provide you with them,” Holt said.

“Oh, God love you,” the president said, sounding exasperated.

Biden naturally likes that story line, which suggests the press is falling down on the job because of a lesser standard applied to Trump.

Some of the president’s allies on the left are also expressing disgust with the fourth estate.

MSNBC host Joy Reid said there is “really a deep concern and lack of confidence in, not us at this table or us at MSNBC, but us as the media writ large.”

Not us at MSNBC! I love that part.

Her beef is that “the media will acquiesce to trying to convince people that the things they’ve been experiencing for the last five, six years didn’t happen.”

She continued: “And people are concerned and expressing concern that we won’t be the guardians of memory and that we will allow Donald Trump, as he is, you know, bathed in the glory and grandeur of his party, to rewrite himself, as both a hero and a victim…And that that will then happen without a guardian saying: ‘Wait, stop!’ and then the media will acquiesce to this rewrite.”

On what planet are the media rolling over for the notion that the last half-dozen years “didn’t happen?”

And in what galaxy are the media quietly going along with the idea that Trump is able to “rewrite” history?

Reid uttered these words on Monday, her first show after the former president came within an inch of being murdered on live television. 

No sign of compassion there, just the righteous anger of whacking the media.

U.S. Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Mo., sat down with Fox News Digital at FreedomFest in Las Vegas to discuss the 2024 election, immigration, Second Amendment rights, and the government response to the COVID pandemic. 

As former President Trump and the GOP brand have expanded throughout the American heartland in many areas that were once swing states, Burlison said he believes that the Democratic Party has abandoned his home state ideologically.

“When I was first elected in the Missouri House, I sat across the aisle from people that were friends of mine that were part of the Democratic Party who were pro-life…There were members who were part of the pro-Second Amendment caucus…and that’s not an option today and I think that people that that once held, that still hold those values that once found a place in the Democratic Party, there’s no place for them anymore…It’s not that Missouri has moved ideologically, I think it’s the Democratic Party has left them.”

WHITE HOUSE GRILLED ON FLOW OF TAXPAYER DOLLARS TO GOVERNMENT DEI PROGRAMS

Burlison has been a tireless critic of the Biden administration’s immigration policies, and said the issue will pay dividends for the GOP in 2024.

“This is unprecedented levels of illegal immigration and I think that his [Biden’s] executive orders directly undermined the authority of Customs and Border Patrol, and now we have this crisis situation … over 10 million people that we know of have come across the southern border illegally, and then we have over 2 million people that are known got-aways,” he said. “When the Biden administration talks about job numbers, and he’s taking credit for this surge in jobs…the fact is that more than half of those jobs are occupied by someone who was not living in the United States before Joe Biden became president. And so, that is a disturbing factor.”

Energy production and independence are also issues that Burlison is championing in Congress, and he said will resonate with the American electorate come November. 

“I think we need to return to an America that was energy independent, that was the America of abundance and that was what we were on track for that under the previous administration under President Trump. Look, in my lifetime I’ve heard so many people running for president claim that they were going to make America energy independent: we would be a net exporter of electricity, net exporter of fuels, and natural resources. That didn’t happen until President Donald Trump,” Burlison said. “The one nexus [for the economy] is energy independence and having abundant energy in the future. If America can go back to being a net exporter, and we reduce our costs for oil…natural gas, and other things, then I think we’re going to solve a lot of our problems.”

While Biden pledged to govern as a moderate after defeating democratic socialist Bernie Sanders in the 2020 primary, Burlison argues that Biden reneged on that promise.

“I would love to have a moderate Joe Biden as president, but that’s not who we have. I think that his office…the inmates are running the prison I think that the staff are running the show, and those staff are a lot more progressive than Joe Biden has ever been as an elected official, so it’s a disturbing trend, and I hope that we change course,” Burlison said.

One of the most important issues for Burlison is Second Amendment rights. He said he believes that Republicans have work to do to fine-tune their messaging on the issue.

“I think that we need to do a better job of communicating the value of people having the right to carry a firearm. The FBI numbers, even under the Obama administration, they did a report that showed that two and a half million times a year someone uses a firearm to save a life or stop a rape, stop a violent act, and those are amazing numbers and there’s anecdotes for every one of the two and a half million stories like that,” he said. “But what ends up being covered in the media are the horrific shootings that occur and while they are absolutely horrible, and we should do everything we can to try to stop those, we can’t ignore the fact that firearms overwhelmingly save lives.”

Burlison is a vehement critic of both parties on spending.

“It’s not only a financial crisis, but it is a security crisis. We are at a debt to GDP level that we have not seen since World War Two, and we didn’t just complete a war. In fact, we’re looking at wars that the United States may have to get into in the future, and we can’t afford it, so we have to fix this, and we don’t…we have a spending problem in D.C. and, the thing that I’m most disappointed in is my Republican colleagues who are not willing to make the necessary cuts,” he said. “They’re not willing to do what’s important and necessary for the future of America, and look, cutting is difficult, but it’s something that we’re going to have to do if we want to save this country.”

During the COVID pandemic, Burlison emerged as a champion of civil liberties, and an opponent of government overreach, and pledged that another attempt to enact policies, such as shutdowns and lockdowns, would not take place without a fight.

“This [the government reaction to COVID] was a horrific situation. We saw what a totalitarian regime might look like in America,” he said. “We got a taste of that and, I hope, I think that there’s a lot of patriots who are not going to let that happen again, and I think that there’s a lot of legislators that are trying to pass bills to make sure that…we don’t see those losses of liberty again.”

The family of a mother of five who was allegedly murdered by an illegal immigrant slammed the Biden administration on Tuesday night for having “opened our borders” to the man accused of killing her.

Michael Morin, the brother of Rachel Morin, spoke at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Morin was killed in August after going out for a jog on a trail near her home in Maryland. Police found her body in a culvert, covered in bruises and with severe head trauma.

“Rachel, a joyful, accomplished athlete and mother of five was raped and murdered by a suspected illegal immigrant,” Michael Morin told the crowd at the Republican National Convention. “This was described as among the most brutal and violent offenses that has ever occurred in Harford County, Maryland history.”

Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez, 23, faces a half-dozen charges, including first-degree murder, rape, and kidnapping, in connection with Rachel Morin’s death. Officials said Martinez Hernandez, who has suspected gang ties, fled his home country in February 2023 after a warrant was issued for the murder of a woman there.

He made three unsuccessful attempts to enter the United States before making it across the border on Feb. 13, 2023 near El Paso, Texas, authorities said.

Rachel’s brother slammed those who advocate for open borders.

“Open borders are often portrayed as compassionate and virtuous. But there is nothing compassionate about allowing violent criminals into our country and robbing children of their mother,” he said.

He then criticized the Biden administration for its policies at the border.

“Joe Biden and his designated border czar Kamala Harris opened our borders to him and others like him, empowering them to victimize the innocent,” he said.

He said they had not heard from the White House, but had heard from former President Donald Trump.

The speech came on day two of the RNC, where the theme was “Make America Secure Again.” Republicans repeatedly hammered the administration on the ongoing crisis at the southern border, accusing it of fueling the crisis by opening the border and rolling back Trump-era policies.

Before Morin spoke, attendees heard an emotional speech from Anne Fundner, a mother who lost her son to fentanyl.

The Biden administration says it has worked to solve the hemisphere-wide crisis, but has struggled because Congress has failed to provide funding and comprehensive immigration reform.

But it has pointed to reduced numbers since President Biden unveiled an executive order to limit some entries across the border last month. Since then, officials say, there has been a 50% drop in crossings.

Several delegates at the Republican National Convention (RNC), including Arizona’s Stacey Goodman and Joe Neglia, were spotted donning ear bandages that mirrored the one being worn by former President Trump after he was wounded during an assassination attempt at his Pennsylvania rally on Saturday.

“Yesterday when he came in, and there was that eruption of love in the room, I thought, ‘what can I do to honor the truth? What can I possibly do?'” Neglia told Fox News Digital. “And then I saw the bandage and I thought, I can do that. So, I put it on simply to honor Trump and to express sympathy with him and unity with him.”

Neglia said he made the bandages en route to Milwaukee, where the convention is taking place this week. Trump has been wearing a bandage on his right ear where the bullet shot by Thomas Matthew Crooks’ pierced through his skin.

“There’s a male version and a female version because there are only two genders!” Neglia said. Other attendees were spotted sporting the look, too.

Trump received a warm welcome, again, from delegates at the RNC on Tuesday night, where lawmakers, activists, and everyday Americans spoke about immigration, crime, and the fentanyl crisis – fitting the night’s theme of “Make America Safe Again.” This time, Trump arrived alongside his newly picked running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, where they took seats in Trump’s family box.

Trump arrived on Day 2 of the convention just in time to hear Sen. Ted Cruz, Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson and his daughter-in-law Lara Trump, among others. 

He also heard from former UN ambassador Nikki Haley – his final rival to drop out of the race – and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who had also challenged Trump for the Republican nomination. Both have now endorsed the former president, as the Republican Party becomes more unified behind their standard-bearer.

Republicans enthusiastically rallied behind Trump, with many thanking God for protecting Trump from narrowly surviving an assassination attempt over the weekend. The lawmakers also slammed President Biden’s “soft-on-crime policies,” and for the crisis at the southern border –  two key issues central to the Republican platform.

“He has inspired a movement,” Rubio said in his speech.

Trump is not scheduled to speak until Thursday, the final night of the convention, where he will formally accept the Republican Party’s nomination for president.

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley made her highly anticipated appearance at the Republican Convention, taking the stage to a mixture of cheers and boos from those in attendance.

Haley, who was former President Donald Trump’s fiercest primary rival, gave the former president her “strong endorsement” during the appearance in Milwaukee, ending months of speculation on if she would throw her weight behind her former rival.

But the initial reaction to Haley’s arrival stood in stark contrast to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Trump’s chief primary rival during the 2016 campaign, who received a standing ovation from those in the crowd, including Trump themselves.

Nevertheless, Haley tried to send a message of unity, acknowledging that not everyone has to agree with Trump 100% to support him in this year’s election.

“You don’t have to agree with Trump 100 percent of the time to vote for him,” Haley said. “Take it from me. I haven’t always agreed with President Trump. But we agree more often than we disagree.”

TRUMP ANNOUNCES OHIO SEN JD VANCE AS HIS 2024 RUNNING MATE

Haley, who served as Trump’s ambassador to the United Nations before running against him, was not always a sure bet to speak at the convention. However, after a failed assassination attempt on Trump at a Pennsylvania rally Saturday, a message of unifying behind the former president soon spread across the Republican Party.

The former South Carolina governor was followed on stage by another former Trump primary rival, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who continued to preach the message of unity during his remarks.

“My fellow Republicans, let’s send Joe Biden back to his basement and let’s send Donald Trump back to the White House. Life was more affordable when Donald Trump was president,” DeSantis said. “Our border was safer under the Trump administration, and our country was respected when Donald Trump was our commander in chief.”

MILWAUKEE – South Carolina GOP Senator Tim Scott is pushing back after the Democratic mayor of Milwaukee said “I don’t buy it” when asked about former President Donald Trump gaining popularity with Black voters. 

“Well, November 5th, you will have to buy it. It’ll be sold,” Scott told Fox News at the Republican National Convention in Wisconsin.

“I think there’s probably a reason why Tim Scott wasn’t selected to be the vice president even though Mr. Trump is supposedly trying to make inroads with African Americans,” Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson said Tuesday during a press conference when asked about Scott’s outreach to the Black community. “I don’t buy that, I just don’t.”

Johnson added that he doesn’t think Scott has “the juice” to convince Black voters to vote for Trump.

“I think black people across the United States know that President Joe Biden’s agenda has been delivering not just for the United States, but specifically for Black people,” Johnson said. 

Scott, who held an event at the RNC promoting voter outreach to the Black community, told Fox News that “if we market our message” Trump will “see the highest turnout of African-American voters we’ve seen since he’s been running for president.”

“President Trump has been very successful and very effective in meeting the moment for African-American voters like he has for the rest of the country,” Scott said.

Scott acknowledged to Fox News that it is difficult for Republicans to make inroads with Black women, who he called the most “loyal” and “fierce” voters in the Democratic Party. However, he argued that Black men are “very different.”

“They are what I call gettable,” Scott said. “If we sell our message sincerely, accurately, with passion, I believe that selling our message to the African-American community will result in a lot of strong turnout. 15%. I do not think it is unrealistic. We could go higher. But if we get to 15%, this game is all over.

A USA Today/Suffolk University poll released last month found that support for Biden among Black voters has dropped roughly 20 percentage points in the swing states of Michigan and Pennsylvania since the last election. 

Fox News polling showed that Biden led Trump by 64 points with Black voters in July 2020. Today, Biden’s lead has shrunk to 42. 

MILWAUKEE — Republican Florida Rep. Cory Mills floated the idea of a “J13” committee styled after the Democrats’ Jan. 6 committee after Democrats’ anti-Trump rhetoric in the lead-up to the assassination attempt on the 45th president’s life. 

“Look, I think we need to identify the hypocrisy here. Whenever President Trump on Jan. 6 said, “Go home peacefully,’ but he was upset about things, he doesn’t have control of what people who are evil or have intent to cause bodily harm does. But yet they ridiculed him, and they still utilize the J6 argument as a way to try and vilify Republicans,” Mills told Fox News Digital from the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. 

“Well, what about other rhetoric that has been said by Maxine Waters? ‘Get in the face of your elected officials,'” he said, paraphrasing California Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters’ 2018 comment encouraging supporters to harass President Donald Trump at the time.

“‘Put a bullseye on Trump,'” he said, paraphrasing President Biden’s comment this month to donors just ahead of the assassination attempt against Trump Saturday during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Biden backtracked on the comment after Trump was shot in the ear in Pennsylvania.

Mills asked if those remarks were not also incitement of violence and if Democratic politicians would face a select committee similar to the J6 committee that investigated the breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

“Are they not going to be also with a J13-style select committee, as we did with J6, so that we can go ahead and play a tit-for-tat on how this works? I think that we need to understand that the games that they continue to play, that the idea of their hyper-polarization of our political system, is really on them. And it’s not on the Republican Party, who is trying to take it and dial it down a notch. It’s them weaponizing our government to go after the opposition.”

On the first day of the convention Monday, Trump announced JD Vance as his his running mate. Mills praised the freshman Ohio senator as a strong supporter of Trump’s America First agenda.

The Florida congressman added that Vance’s background from a blue-collar family will likely speak volumes to voters, striking a similar chord to his own upbringing.

“I grew up in a broken home where drug addiction and substance abuse, and things like this, was prevalent, and it destroyed our family,” Mills said. “My father spent time in prison. My mother spent time, because I was raised by my grandparents. And we lived in poverty. I can remember us living on around $6,800 for an entire year. We believed in having to hunt and fish.”

Mills argued that Vance’s background from a working-class family before his nomination as Trump’s running mate will resonate with many Americans. 

“What [Vance] represents is the fact that your socioeconomic background that you’re born into doesn’t define you. That is what makes America so great, this idea of American exceptionalism, this idea of us becoming a great nation is equal opportunity. The fact that there is no glass ceiling. That you don’t have to be born into a legacy family or generational wealth. You can build that yourself through your own hard work and your dedication and commitment.

“I think his youth, I think that the fact that he’s still an outsider who has not been corrupted by the political world, I think that his upbringing, it’s contrasting in many ways to what President Trump has done and also complementary in many ways,” Mills said. 

FIRST ON FOX: A former senior Homeland Security official and FBI agent is calling for a bipartisan commission to be formed to investigate the assassination attempt on former President Trump, arguing the public has lost trust in the federal agencies.

Mark Morgan most recently served as acting head of Customs and Border Protection under the Trump administration and also had a 20-year career with the FBI, including as a former SWAT operator and tactical instructor, and with the FBI’s critical incident response group. 

He spoke to Fox News Digital Tuesday about the ongoing reviews of Saturday’s assassination attempt.

“Here’s the reality that we have to face for those of us who were past and even those that are currently involved in these agencies. … America’s trust in the Department of Justice, the FBI, Congress, it has dropped precipitously the past few years. That’s just the reality,” Morgan said.

The assassination attempt has drawn bipartisan scrutiny from Congress over how the gunman was allowed to get so close to Trump and get multiple shots off at the former president. The heads of the House Oversight and Homeland Security committees have demanded briefings from agency heads. In the Senate, both Homeland Security Committee Chairman Gary Peters and ranking member Rand Paul announced they will investigate the matter. President Biden has directed an independent review of the incident, and the FBI is investigating.

“So, the challenge is that although we have these investigations that are going to go on, I just don’t think the public trusts these agencies to really come forth with a comprehensive review and then a series of meaningful recommendations with respect to how we need to improve. And I also don’t think America trusts that they’re going to come forward with meaningful accountability for those that were involved in what is clearly a colossal security failure,” Morgan said.

The head of the Secret Service this week called the shooting “unacceptable,” while DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas called it a “failure” of the agency. But Morgan says if he were one of the agency heads, he would have already resigned.

“In my opinion, if I was a Secret Service director, I would have already tendered my resignation and handed it to the president. But, just like the secretary of DHS, their ego won’t let them do the right thing,” Morgan said.

Morgan said he would like to see Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., who previously chaired the Senate Homeland Security Committee, lead the commission. 

“He’s got the experience. He led the House Homeland Security committee on the Senate side. He knows DHS, how they operate, knows how the Secret Service operates. And I also think he’s got credibility on both sides of the aisle,” Morgan said.

He also said there would need to be experts from multiple administrations as part of the commission. 

“But let’s do a true bipartisan commission and look at it from A to Z because, right now, we’re going to have congressional committees doing their thing. We’re going to have the DHS IG and Secret Service doing their thing. We’re going to have the FBI doing their investigation in the shooting,” Morgan said.

“So, we’re going to have all these different stovepipe things that are happening, really independent of each other. And that’s why I see the commission would bring all those in together.

“So, I’m not saying you stop any one of those things. What I say, though, is the commission would act as the umbrella to bring all those things together and to produce a single full and complete comprehensive report regarding just all the circumstances around it,” he said.

He also said the commission could look at the Secret Service as a whole, including methodology.

“This is a clear indication and justification that needs to happen. And so I don’t think you’re going to get that with these individual entities doing their thing. But the most important thing is, I don’t think the American people are going to have confidence in any of those entities regardless of what they report.”

President Biden was asked Tuesday in an interview with Black Entertainment Television (BET) what, if anything, would drive him to drop out of the 2024 presidential race, as a growing number of Democrats call for him to step aside in the race.

“If I had some medical condition that emerged, if somebody, the doctors came and said you’ve got this problem, that problem,” Biden told BET’s Ed Gordon. “But I made a serious mistake in the whole debate and, look, when I originally ran, you might remember it, I said I was gonna be a transitional candidate. I thought that I would be able to move from this, to pass it on to somebody else. But I didn’t anticipate things getting so, so, so divided.”

“Quite frankly, I think the only thing age brings is a little bit of wisdom. And I think I’ve demonstrated that I know how to get things done for the country, in spite of the fact we were told we couldn’t get it done. But there’s more to do, and I’m reluctant to walk away from that,” he added.

The comments from Biden’s interview with BET were provided in a preview clip that aired Tuesday evening on CBS Evening News. The full interview, which was recorded in Las Vegas, Nevada, is slated to air Wednesday on BET at 10 p.m. ET.

In the preview of the interview, Biden was also asked how he’s “sure” he will be able to restore Roe v. Wade, which was overturned by the Supreme Court in the summer of 2022.

“The Supreme Court did it. Trump appointed the Supreme Court for the express purpose of doing it,” he said. “There’s gonna probably be two more appointments for the court. There’s probably two people gonna resign, I mean retire. Just imagine the court if he has two more appointments what that means forever.”

Titled “Black America Votes: The Biden Interview,” BET Media Group said the conversation affords the president an opportunity to “speak directly to Black America” and will “focus on the essential issues impacting our community and discuss why we should continue to support his candidacy amidst growing public concerns and calls for him to withdraw.”

The interview marks Biden’s third scheduled sit-down interview with a television network since his disastrous debate performance against former President Donald Trump on June 27, which resulted in several Democrats calling for Biden to step aside in the 2024 race for the White House.

The interview comes as Biden seeks to maintain his support from Black voters as the once solid foundational bloc of the Democratic Party begins to waver.

In addition to the interview with BET, Biden delivered remarks at the 115th NAACP National Convention in Las Vegas on Tuesday. He’s also expected to meet with Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Chairman Rep. Steven Horsford for an economic summit, where he will speak to Black voters and meet with Black members of congress to discuss his vision for a second term.

The extensive tour focusing on the Black community comes at the same time former President Trump is courting solidly blue areas of the country, seeking to capitalize on Biden’s perceived weakness.

Trump’s decision to target minority voters in places like New York, where Republicans have not carried the state in decades, reflects the Trump campaign’s belief that Biden is showing weakness with key Democratic constituencies.

Despite holding a solid majority of Black voters, the Biden campaign has seen a notable drop in enthusiasm in key swing states since 2020.

“Our campaign believes that Black voters deserve to hear from Team Biden-Harris, and they deserve to have their vote earned, not assumed,” the Biden campaign previously said about Black voter engagement. “That’s exactly what we are doing through historic investments in Black media and outreach, creative engagement efforts, culturally competent content and innovative organizing initiatives. No campaign has valued Black voters like we have, including through investing earlier and with more money than ever before talking to Black voters.”

A USA Today/Suffolk University poll released last month found that support for Biden among Black voters has dropped roughly 20 percentage points in both Michigan and Pennsylvania since the last election.

In Michigan, the poll found Trump has 15% of Black voters, compared to Biden at 54% of the support from Black voters. Trump received just 9% of the Black vote in Michigan in the 2020 election. 

Many pollsters expect Trump to experience a bump in support across all demographics following the assassination attempt that nearly took his life last weekend.

EXCLUSIVE – Rep. Jim Banks, R-Ind., is throwing his support behind former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy to replace Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, if he and former President Trump win the 2024 election.

“I hope Vivek is Governor DeWine’s choice. I mean, he’d be a great senator if he wants it,” Banks said, though he pointed out that he is not involved in Ohio politics.

Trump announced Monday that he would pick Vance as his running mate after weeks of speculation and furor over the GOP presidential ticket.

Banks, who is running for the open Senate seat in the deep red state of Indiana, praised the ex-president’s decision and argued Vance would be an appropriate standard-bearer for the movement Trump has created within the GOP.

“Donald Trump is the leader, not just of the party, but of the America First movement. And I think Donald Trump picking JD Vance was not just picking his running mate, not just picking his vice president, but really putting someone forward who’s going to represent the future of our party and our movement,” Banks told Fox News Digital. “And JD Vance is the perfect person for that.”

He also echoed Trump’s argument that Vance, who has established himself as a populist so far in his first Senate term, would be critical to winning swing state voters.

“JD will go into these swing states like Michigan and Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and connect with regular working-class families, the voters that we need to win in November,” Banks said.

His suggestion that Ramaswamy could replace Vance in the Senate comes as jockeying has already begun for the possible vacancy. 

The seat would become open if Trump beats President Biden in November, and it would be up to DeWine to appoint someone to fill out the rest of Vance’s term.

Ramaswamy suggested he would be open to the nod in a statement to Fox News Digital on Monday, “I have rock-solid conviction that JD will be an outstanding VP for President Trump. The only negative is this leaves our side missing one of our best fighters in the Senate. If asked to serve, I would strongly consider the position and would discuss with President Trump which path makes the most sense for our country.”

Others floated for the possible vacancy are Rep. Mike Carey, R-Ohio, who is close with both Trump and DeWine, and state Sen. Matt Dolan, who DeWine endorsed in the Republican primary against Vance.

MILWAUKEE – President Biden’s re-election campaign is getting back to business.

After pausing “all outbound communications” and pulling down its TV ads in the aftermath of Saturday’s attempted assassination of former President Trump at his rally in western Pennsylvania, Biden’s re-election team and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) began resuming campaign activities on Tuesday.

As first reported by Fox News, the DNC launched billboards near the site of this week’s Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

The messaging push by the national party committee highlights what they call President Biden’s “winning record.”

FIRST ON FOX: DNC SPOTLIGHTS ‘DARK BRANDON’ AS IT LAUNCHES COUNTERPROGRAMMING BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE GOP CONVENTION

The president is spending Tuesday in the crucial western swing state of Nevada – where he’ll address two key constituencies that are part of the Democratic Party base – Black voters at an NAACP conference and Latino voters at a UnidosUS conference.

Meanwhile, Vice President Harris will also aim to counter-program the GOP convention, with campaign stops Wednesday and Thursday in the crucial swing states of Michigan and North Carolina.

Biden campaign texts to supporters resumed on Monday, including two spotlighting Trump’s naming of Sen. JD Vance of Ohio as his running mate. 

TRUMP ANNOUNCES JD VANCE AS HIS 2024 RUNNING MATE 

“How does a guy who used to say that Donald Trump and his policies were ‘reprehensible’ become Donald Trump’s running mate?” one of the fundraising texts reads, as it pointed to critical comments Vance, a top Senate supporter of the former president, made about Trump years ago.

TV ads by the Biden campaign could resume as early as Tuesday. And after holding off on Monday, the Biden campaign and the DNC on Tuesday started news conferences near the GOP convention.

Tuesday’s news conference, which included Democratic Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey and AFL-CIO president Liz Shuler, painted contrasts between Biden and Trump over the economy, abortion and protecting democracy.

Both Biden and Trump and their campaigns have been trying to tone down the rhetoric and lower the temperature on the campaign trail, in the wake of the deadly shooting at the Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

But at the news conference, Biden principal deputy campaign manager Quentin Fulks said their message hasn’t been altered in the wake of the Trump assassination attempt.

“It hasn’t changed. I would say that we’ve been focused on talking about the issues, reproductive freedom, workers rights, Social Security, Medicare, the economy, a fair tax code,” Fulks said in answer to a question from Fox News.

Fulks emphasized that Biden and Harris have been “very clear on their vision when it comes to the agenda that they want to put forward for Americans. Our campaign has been talking about that for months since the re-election was announced. And we’re going to continue to do so, as the president said. This is how democracy works. We’re going to continue to have a candid conversation about the stark contrast.”

On Monday, the Biden campaign and the president quickly criticized Trump’s naming of Vance to the GOP national ticket. Vance is a disciple of Trump’s American First agenda and a MAGA world champion.

Biden told reporters that Vance was “a clone of Trump on the issues.” And the president’s campaign argued that Vance was selected because he would “do what [former Vice President] Mike Pence wouldn’t on January 6: bend over backwards to enable Trump and his extreme MAGA agenda, even if it means breaking the law and no matter the harm to the American people.”

The Trump campaign pushed back.

“I think that response, given the events that have transpired in this country where President Trump had an assassination attempt on his life, for the sitting U.S. president to be calling for anything other than unity, but instead using this opportunity to attack President Trump’s new vice presidential nominee, go after him on policy, it seems really out of touch, really in poor taste,” Deputy Communications Director Caroline Sunshine argued in an interview with Fox News Digital.

The Department of Homeland Security has received intelligence from a human source on an Iranian plot to assassinate Former President Trump, Fox News has been told by two federal law enforcement sources. 

The development level of the plot is unclear. CNN first reported that there has been an increase in Secret Service protection for Trump in recent weeks because of this intelligence. DHS and Secret Service have increasingly been concerned about Trump holding outdoor events, Fox News is told. 

The Iranian plot is reportedly not connected in any way at this point to the assassination attempt on Trump in Pennsylvania carried out by Thomas Crooks.

The agencies have expressed concerns to Trump’s campaign about the Iranian plot. Since the killing of Iranian leader Qasem Soleimani in January 2020, Trump has been an increased target, but this specific threat has developed over the past few days.

Teamsters President Sean O’Brien has kicked up controversy by breaking with tradition and speaking at the Republican National Convention, while his organization indicates it will endorse no presidential candidate during this campaign season.

“No final decision has been made,” Kara Deniz, a spokesperson for the Teamsters told Reuters, adding that any reports to the contrary are purely speculative. 

The Teamsters in the past few decades have consistently endorsed Democrats, starting with former President Clinton in 1992 and remaining staunchly blue through the years and up till the 2020 election. The move to remain neutral underscores the trouble President Biden has faced following his poor debate performance.

The organization did refrain from endorsing either candidate in the 1996 election, but the Biden campaign had reportedly viewed a Teamster endorsement as virtually assured. Last week, United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain met with his union’s executive board to address fears that Biden might fail to beat former President Trump. 

IMMIGRATION HAWKS DELIGHTED AT TRUMP PICK JD VANCE: ‘ONE HELL OF A CO-PILOT’

O’Brien’s keynote speech, while not an explicit endorsement, showed strong and surprising support from the otherwise left-leaning organization, but he highlighted the support Teamsters used to provide the GOP.

“Now, when I won the presidency of the Teamsters in a national election two and a half years ago, we started reaching across the aisle,” O’Brien said during his speech at the convention on Monday night. “In the past, the Teamsters have endorsed GOP candidates, including Nixon, Reagan, and George H.W. Bush.”

“But over the last 40 years, the Republican Party has really pursued strong relationships with organized labor,” O’Brien said. “There are some in the party who stand in active opposition to labor unions. This, too, must change.”

Despite these strong claims, O’Brien is the first Teamster in the organization’s 121-year history to speak at the RNC, something he noted when he insisted that “Teamsters are here to say we are not beholden to anyone or any party.”

O’Brien made headlines on Tuesday for labeling Trump “one tough SOB” for surviving the assassination attempt on his life over the weekend, and he unloaded on big business in what some have called one of the strongest speeches denouncing corporations in recent memory.

“We need to call the Chamber of Commerce and the business roundtables what they are: They are unions for big business,” O’Brien said during his speech. 

“And here’s another fact against a gigantic multinational corporation: an individual worker has zero power,” he continued. “It’s only when Americans band together and democratic unions that we win rail improvements on wages, benefits and working conditions … Remember, elites have no party. Elites have no nation. Their loyalty is to the balance sheet and the stock price at the expense of the American worker.”

O’Brien’s decision to speak at the convention has deeply upset some members of the Teamsters, who earlier this year criticized the union president for trying to court both the Democrats and Republicans and made $45,000 donations to both parties, Axios reported.

Teamster Vice President At-Large John Palmer, a member of the union since 1987, lambasted O’Brien’s decision, calling it “unconscionable for any Labor leader to lend an air of legitimacy to a candidate and a political party, neither of which can be said to have done or can be expected to do anything to improve the lives of the workers we are pledged to represent.”

Anti-union groups also took aim at O’Brien ahead of his speech, accusing O’Brien of being “two-faced” and noting that “one speaking engagement doesn’t change the facts” that Teamsters by and large donate to “left-wing causes.” 

The Republican Party and International Brotherhood of Teamsters did not respond to a Fox News Digital request for comment by press time. 

State and federal Republicans are joining a lawsuit challenging an executive order from President Biden aimed at registering up to 3.5 million new voters before Election Day.

Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose joined with Reps. Ronny Jackson, R-Texas, and Beth Van Dune, R-Texas, in accusing Biden of “weaponizing” federal institutions. The lawsuit, filed with the America First Policy Institute, argues the Biden administration is attempting to turn federal election agencies into a “Democratic turnout machine.”

“The Biden Administration is once again weaponizing federal agencies, this time to steer taxpayer resources to liberal activist groups who want to sway the election” LaRose told Fox News Digital in a statement Tuesday.

“This is a cynical attempt to turn government agencies into a Democratic turnout machine, and it’s wrong. That’s why I’m joining this lawsuit and working to hold the administration accountable,” he added.

The lawsuit, filed Thursday in the northern district of Texas, relates to an executive order Biden signed in March 2021 that sought to register 3.5 million additional voters before the 2024 election, and also mobilize them to vote.

The administration justified the move through the National Voter Registration Act, but the lawsuit argues that the law has never been interpreted to authorize such an action. The lawsuit further highlights the outside groups the White House has worked with to implement the order, many of which are left wing.

“Instead of instilling policies that Americans want and need, they turn to the well-oiled DC swamp filled to the brim with deep state loyalists to illegally register voters in an attempt to help them win,” Jackson said in a statement to AFPI.

“To facilitate the EO’s implementation, the White House has held listening sessions with far-left groups including the Southern Poverty Law Center, ACLU, Demos, and Black Lives Matter, which strongly suggests that the EO is intended to provide a partisan advantage to liberal Democrats,” AFPI said. 

The White House dismissed the lawsuit in comments to Fox News Digital, arguing Republicans are only trying to limit the voting pool.

“These are baseless claims brought by the very people who spread debunked lies about the 2020 elections and have used those same debunked lies to advance laws across the nation that make it harder to vote and easier to undermine the will of the people,” White House spokesperson Robyn Patterson said. 

“The Biden-Harris Administration will continue working to protect the voting rights of every eligible American regardless of their political affiliation,” Patterson added.

Top House Democrat and fierce former President Trump critic Rep. Adam Schiff has privately told Democrat donors that he thinks that his party could suffer substantial losses in November if President Biden remains at the top of the ticket, according to a report from The New York Times. 

Schiff, the former chair of the House Intelligence Committee who is now running for a Senate seat in California, reportedly made the comment Saturday at a fundraiser in East Hampton, New York, just hours before the assassination attempt against former President Trump. 

“I think if he is our nominee, I think we lose,” the newspaper quoted Schiff as saying, citing a person with access to a transcription of a recording of the fundraiser. “And we may very, very well lose the Senate and lose our chance to take back the House.” 

Schiff, when asked by Fox News about the report, declined to comment.

The New York Times also reported, citing two people with direct knowledge of Schiff’s remarks, that Schiff said Biden and his campaign staff have been generally unwilling to listen to the views of outside pollsters and political experts and that they should do so.  

One donor who attended the event told the newspaper that he left feeling dejected and that donors should now focus on supporting downballot candidates under the belief that Biden’s chances of winning are slim.

Biden has faced pressure to drop out of the presidential race following his widely panned June 27 debate performance, but those calls have subsided after Trump was shot this past weekend. 

Earlier this month, Schiff admitted publicly to having doubts that Biden could beat Trump in a head-to-head race. 

Schiff told NBC News that Biden’s age is the major factor weighing down the presidential race and that he should really consider whether running is the best choice.

“But the performance on the debate stage I think rightfully raised questions among the American people about whether the president has the vigor to defeat Donald Trump,” Schiff said at the time.

After former President Trump revealed his choice of Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, for his running mate in the November election, speculation quickly began over who might take Vance’s place in the Senate. 

Vance was elected to the Senate in 2022 and isn’t up for re-election until 2028. However, if he and Trump win, and he takes the role of vice president, Gov. Mike DeWine, R-Ohio, will be charged with appointing a replacement.

In a statement provided by a spokesperson, Ramaswamy said, “I have rock-solid conviction that JD will be an outstanding VP for President Trump.”

“The only negative is this leaves our side missing one of our best fighters in the Senate. If asked to serve, I would strongly consider the position and would discuss with President Trump which path makes the most sense for our country,” he continued. 

However, getting DeWine to appoint Ramaswamy could prove difficult, as he is a more moderate Republican governor to Ramswamy’s “America-First” brand of conservatism.

DeWine’s office did not immediately provide comment to Fox News Digital. 

In an interview with Fox News Digital on Monday, Ramaswamy applauded the choice of Vance as Trump’s running mate. 

“I think he’s going to attract a lot of people who are hungry for economic mobility in the country, and I think he’s even going to attract a lot of people who aren’t traditional Republicans,” he said.

Immigration hawks reacted with delight after former President Trump announced the selection of Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, as his running mate, pointing to his record of staunch opposition to illegal immigration and his votes in favor of additional border security.

“President Trump was first elected to secure our border and enforce our immigration laws after decades of neglect in Washington — and he delivered on his promises,” RJ Hauman, president of the National Immigration Center for Enforcement, told Fox News Digital. “By choosing a fierce immigration reformer like Senator Vance as his running mate, President Trump has reaffirmed to the American people that our borders must be secured and immigration laws aggressively enforced.”

“The largest deportation effort in American history now has one hell of a co-pilot,” he said.

Trump announced the Vance pick earlier Monday, saying he has fought “so brilliantly” for workers and farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio and Minnesota. On Tuesday, the theme for the convention will be “Make America Safe Once Again,” when border security and illegal immigrant crime are likely to be hot topics, given the ongoing crisis at the southern border and the massive impact it is having on the presidential race. 

The Ohio senator has top ratings for his votes and positions on immigration from hawkish groups that call for lower levels of immigration. Heritage Action has given him a 93% rating on the issue.

“With a 93% on the Heritage Action scorecard, Senator JD Vance has proven to be a committed conservative fighter in the Senate. He wants to secure the border, enforce the rule of law, and protect American workers,” Ryan Walker, Executive Vice President at Heritage Action, said. “With his proven record, impressive resume, and unique background, Senator Vance will help President Trump return to the White House and secure our borders once and for all.”

As senator, Vance currently has an “A” grade from NumbersUSA. The group pointed to his co-sponsorship of the Senate version of the House GOP border bill known as H.R. 2, as well as his votes against the recent bipartisan Senate package backed by the Biden administration.

It has also noted his votes for bills to mandate the employment authorization system E-Verify, criminalize visa overstays, limit the use of humanitarian parole, and his efforts to increase the credible fear standard for asylum seekers. Other immigration hawks pointed to bills he has supported to reshape Alternatives to Detention and that would require all illegal immigrants on the non-detained docket to be put on GPS tracking. 

“Senator Vance has distinguished himself in his ability to clearly articulate the dysfunction inherent in our legal immigration system, especially the harm caused to American workers through lowered wages and lost jobs, as well as understanding how the high level of immigration leads to higher housing costs,” Numbers USA CEO James Massa said. “Senator Vance understands that immigration policy must no longer be determined by special interests in Washington, D.C., or big business seeking cheap labor at the expense of American workers, but instead designed in the interest of the American people at large.”

U.S. Tech Workers, a group which opposes the H-1B visa program, which critics have said is used by tech companies to replace American workers with cheap foreign labor, noted Vance’s prior criticism of the H-1B program.

“Here’s hoping this unity ticket finally sees H-1B visa reform come to fruition,” the account said.

Mark Krikorian, executive director at the Center for Immigration Studies, said that Vance “has the chance to help the GOP move beyond mere rhetoric and make it a genuinely pro-worker party.”

Speaking to Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Monday evening, Vance highlighted Trump’s promise to launch a mass deportation operation if elected in November.

“We have to deport people, we have to deport people who broke our laws who came in here and I think we start with the violent criminals. President Trump has been very, very effective at communicating on this to the point where now a majority of Americans believe that we need to deport a large number of people who have come here illegally,” he said.

Fox News Digital recently sat down with independent presidential candidate RFK Jr. at FreedomFest in Las Vegas, for a wide-ranging interview in which he discussed his campaign viability, the COVID pandemic, immigration policy, and castigated both the Trump and Biden administrations on civil liberties and weaponization of the Justice Department.

While polls show Kennedy lagging far behind Trump and Biden, he believes that momentum is with his campaign.

“Well, this week we had two national polls come out, the HarrisX poll that had me at 19%, and the Pew poll that had me at 15%, and so we’re watching my numbers grow all the time. I’m now beating President Biden and President Trump among independents, I’m beating them among all Americans under 35. I have better approval ratings and favorability ratings than both of them. I’m doing well with black voters and Hispanic voters, and the one group that I don’t do well with is Baby Boomers, because they’re watching the mainstream networks CNN, ABC, NBC, MSNBC and they’re reading the New York Times and the Washington Post.”

Kennedy came to the forefront as a staunch critic of both the Trump and Biden administrations’ approach to the pandemic, and believes the Republican and Democratic establishments are both responsible for an assault on civil liberties.

“The Constitution is a piece of paper, and the only thing that makes it work is if people believe in it, and one of the things that we need to do is to start teaching civics lessons again in American schools. We abandoned that, and I think that’s one of the reasons that our civil rights were taken away from us so easily.”

“Both of them ravaged American democracy and the republic. You know, we saw it during COVID, they shut down, it was an assault on the Constitution by both men, and, you know, we saw all of our property rights suspended, the Fifth Amendment, 3.3 million businesses shut down. We saw free speech censored, and violations of the First Amendment, all the churches closed in this country with no scientific citation, no due process, violation of the First Amendment, the rights of assembly and petition obliterated by social distancing rules…it was both the Biden and the Trump administrations, so I don’t I don’t think either of those presidents could be trusted to safeguard our Constitution.”

Kennedy believes strongly in securing the southern border, and supports a return to some Trump-era policies, arguing that the Biden policies have been ineffective.

“I’m absolutely going to secure the border. I’ve spent a lot of time on the border talking with law enforcement, with Border Patrol, and one of the optimistic things for me is everybody says this can be stopped…we need to complete the 27 missing gaps in the wall…we need to do personnel changes and we need to bring in asylum court judges, and more Border Patrol and we need to do some regulatory changes… including changing the catch and release policy to catch and return policy, which it was during the Trump administration.”

While a strong supporter of legal migration, he believes that current policies have abandoned border policy to dangerous criminal elements:

“I want wide gates for people who come in legally so that there’s a fast track to citizenship, so that we can get the workers we need in this country right now, but I also will make sure nobody’s coming in illegally. Right now the Sinaloan drug cartel is running US immigration policy and nobody thinks that’s a good idea.”

Kennedy pledges to bring Russia and Ukraine to the negotiating table for a speedy resolution to the conflict:

“I’ll end the Ukraine War immediately, and I will negotiate a peace with Putin. Putin has tried repeatedly to negotiate peace agreements with us. He negotiated a very, very favorable agreement in April of 2022; he signed it, the Zelenskyy government signed it, and the Biden administration made Zelenskyy tear it up.”

He would not elaborate on what territory he might require Ukraine to cede, but argues that the Biden administration has prolonged the conflict:

“I’m not going to tell you what my end point of negotiation…because that’s not what you do, but I will say that we’re in a much worse negotiating position than we were in April of 2022 when the Biden administration destroyed the peace process.”

According to a 2022 study by the Commonwealth Fund, while the United States spends far more than its peers on healthcare, it generally experiences worse outcomes. Kennedy pledges to take on the healthcare bureaucracies and the pharmaceutical industry.

“My solution is to end the chronic disease epidemic and that’s what’s driving our healthcare crisis. We spend $4.3 trillion on healthcare, almost all of that that goes now to chronic disease, and we have the worst health outcomes of any country in the top 79 countries in the world…I know how to do this, I know how to change the mission of NIH so that it’s no longer an incubator for new pharmaceutical products in league with the pharmaceutical industry.”

Kennedy faults both administrations for politically-motived lawfare via the judicial system.

“The weaponization of the Justice Department is the fault of both Democrats and Republicans. You remember in 2016, 2020, President Trump promising that he was going to create a special prosecutor and lock Hillary Clinton up. That sort of gave permission, both sides of the political process began weaponizing government…We are going to make sure the American people know that justice is blind, that justice is neutral, and that mandate has been abandoned by both these administrations.”

Kennedy has long been actively involved in Latin America, spending considerable time in South America. He credits his father and uncle’s policies for appealing to the poor of the region, and believes interventionism is an ineffective strategy to promote American values and deter Communism.

“The people of Latin America have the right to choose their own leaders, and I think a lot of the anti-American attitude in Latin America comes from a history of us interfering in the region. I think we need to be partners with the region the way that my uncle and father did…when they started the Alliance for Progress, they started the USAID to put America on the side of the poor in those countries, to remove the temptation to embrace Communist values…and all of the interventions that we’ve done in Latin America have turned against us…We need to be partners with those governments and those societies rather than bullies.”

President Biden is focused on maintaining his support from Black voters as the once solid foundational bloc of the Democratic Party begins to waver.

Biden will be participating in an interview for BET on Tuesday to pitch himself as the obvious choice for Black voters. 

Following the interview, Biden is expected to attend the 115th NAACP National Convention in Las Vegas. He will be delivering remarks during the event.

Finally, Biden will meet with Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Chairman Rep. Steven Horsford for an economic summit, where he will speak to Black voters and meet with Black members of congress to discuss his vision for a second term.

Members of the CBC who are expected to meet with Biden include Reps. Jim Clyburn, Jonathan Jackson, Yvette Clarke, Robin Kelly, Gabe Amo, Bennie Thompson, Bobby Scott, Troy Carter and Nikema Williams.

The extensive tour focusing on the Black community comes at the same time former President Trump is courting solidly blue areas of the country, seeking to capitalize on Biden’s perceived weakness.

Trump’s decision to target minority voters in places like New York, where Republicans have not carried the state in decades, reflects the Trump campaign’s belief that Biden is showing weakness with key Democratic constituencies.

Despite holding a solid majority of Black voters, the Biden campaign has seen a notable drop in enthusiasm in key swing states since 2020.

“Our campaign believes that Black voters deserve to hear from Team Biden-Harris, and they deserve to have their vote earned, not assumed,” the Biden campaign previously said about Black voter engagement. “That’s exactly what we are doing through historic investments in Black media and outreach, creative engagement efforts, culturally competent content and innovative organizing initiatives. No campaign has valued Black voters like we have, including through investing earlier and with more money than ever before talking to Black voters.”

A USA Today/Suffolk University poll released last month found that support for Biden among Black voters has dropped roughly 20 percentage points in both Michigan and Pennsylvania since the last election. 

In Michigan, the poll found Trump has 15% of Black voters, compared to Biden at 54% of the support from Black voters. Trump received just 9% of the Black vote in Michigan in the 2020 election. 

Many pollsters expect Trump to experience a bump in support across all demographics following the assassination attempt that nearly took his life last weekend.
